We went on a Sunday after church so we had to wait a few minutes. The food was fine but nothing special. The home fries had zero flavor. Somehow the pancake portion of my meal took an extra 10 minutes to arrive. Our whole table was pretty underwhelmed considering how everybody praises Grumpy's. We have a few breakfast / brunch favorites around Jacksonville. Seemingly every time we check into our favorites on social media, someone suggets that we go to Grumpys soon. We decided to finally go and it didn't disappoint. There was a long (45 minute) wait but that's to be expected on a Sunday morning and with how popular we knew the place would be. The wait was made better by free coffee and fruit infused water outside, so that was great. Once we were seated we ordered and got our food fairly quickly. We both absolutely loved our meals. One side note to make is that my wife mentioned the orange juice was the best she'd ever had. In short, if you've heard how great this place is, you've heard right. My French dip sandwich was average nothing to do backflips about. My French onion soup was lacking that yummy savory taste you get when you order this soup and there was a lot of oil in my cup. Oh my gosh- I can't say enough positive things about our breakfast on a busy Saturday morning. Someone walked around outside to offer us water, juice or coffee as we waited for a table. Unpopular opinion alert! Despite SO much hype around Grumpy's, I didn't get the mass appeal. I just did not enjoy my meal. Aside from the fresh orange juice, the flavor and quality of their other dishes were a bit lackluster. My eggs Benedict had a very broken hollandaise and poached eggs that were overcooked. The Grumpy's Benedict wasn't much better with the sausage gravy being very thick and pasty in consistency and was not that flavorful. Their biscuits were also very dense. Their pancakes were very spongy and chewy-- seems like the batter was overworked. Overall, we just didn't think that the food deserved as much acclaim. Service was very attentive and friendly. About a year ago, I would have easily given this place 5 stars. Unfortunately, today it barely deserves two. I had friends go out of their way to visit because of the great experiences I've always had at Grumpy's, but this visit was completely different. After being told we'd only wait 15 minutes, we ended up waiting over 45. When I checked with the hostess, I saw that our name had been crossed off and several groups were seated before us. While they apologized and seated us quickly, the service continued to be poor. It took an unusually long time to get our food, and when it finally arrived, it was cold. Our toast came out last, and the child's platter had barely any grated cheese on it and was also cold. Our server rarely checked in, even though the restaurant was emptying out. Meanwhile, the staff gathered behind the desk and kitchen, chatting instead of attending to customers. This was very disappointing, especially for a place where I used to see the owner actively managing the restaurant, making sure everyone was busy and everything was running smoothly. I'm not just disappointed in the waitstaff, but also in the kitchen and overall management. I have now been to Grump's twice, once for breakfast and once for lunch. Both times were good but hot take: I thought lunch was better. Both times there was a wait as there is with any new and good restaurant. Though we waited it was never for as long as projected and you are able to have coffee and flavored water while you wait. Both times we requested the first available table, once we ate inside and once we ate outside. I was worried about eating outside in summer but the patio was actually lovely, the fans were going and it was very well covered. Breakfast: I ordered the fried chicken Benedict - the fried chicken was so good and crispy. In fact the fried chicken was so good it almost stole the show. Next time I would probably just order the chicken because it was all I needed. It was however a unique breakfast and I am very glad I tried it. Lunch: I ordered the chicken pot pie - it was not only the best thing anyone ordered it might be one of the best if not the best chicken pot pies I've ever had! The pot pie wasn't huge so I would say at most two people can split it. It came with a side and I ordered the Greek salad which was huge and also very good. The pot pie crust was flaky but also had a biscuit texture. The filling of the pot pie had mostly chicken but there were some vegetables as well. Each bite was better than the one before. A couple of blips with service but those were easily resolved. So why 3 stars? The place is busy. This makes it challenging in keeping the place clearn. Not that the place was that dirty especially considering the volume of people coming through. We had a small snafu with our order, and we were overcharged on our check. Both resolved, but a little attention to detail would have avoided it. Like i said, the food was good. But it was just basc food. Eggs, pancakes, french toast, bacon... Again, it was good. I would always see a line out the door for this place every time I left my doctors office. I knew exactly what I was doing the day I asked my hubby to come to my appt with me and scheduled my appt during early breakfast hours :-) They offer inside and outside seating and it's very bright & cheery inside. They also had great music playing which kept it lively and upbeat. This place was sooooo good. I got Cinnamon Toast Crunch pancakes that came with eggs, hash browns and sausage. Came in today 10/14 finally !! Checked in wait was 25-30 min felt like 15min at the most. It was a pavkef house but they moved quick in getting people seated. Staff were so nice from check in to our waitress to everyone in between. Food was good. They serve a lot so I know for next time I think we will be good just ordering one dish.We ordered two kids meals. 1 Kids Pancakes and 1 kids breakfast. A NY strip steak with a side pancake. We've enjoyed the original Grumpy's and were looking forward to trying this new location. The space was bright and fresh. Staff was very attentive and friendly - ready to make recommendations. I hear there is usually a long wait on weekends. Luckily we woke up extra early on Saturday and found that they open at 5:30 am. We seized the moment and got there around 6 am. To walk into the immaculate, dazzling white, vaulted ceilinged location on 210 is so incredibly disconcerting. My brain cannot reconcile the two. However, we aren't there for the decor. We are there for the food and service. And both those things are top notch. We have only visited for breakfast, and that's because it's one of the best breakfasts around. Omelettes, coffee, fresh-squeezed OJ, hash browns, biscuits, toast.... you name it, and Grumpy's has it on lock. I love that I can get French Fries with my scrambled eggs (it's an old Jersey diner thing). Get a piece of pie or a cinnamon roll to go. You won't regret it. read more

I've been to Grumpy's twice. The food is just ok honestly. The first time, my meal wasn't bad, but it wasn't exceptional either. The second time, I sent my food back and didn't want to order anything else. Each time my servers have been nice enough. While Grumpy's is pretty nicely decorated, it's always a little messy in there. I'm talking food on the floor and having to ask the server to wipe down the seats and sweep under the table before we sit down. I'm not saying don't go to Grumpy's, but I'm also not sure I'd go back. We are here for breakfast while visiting from out of town. Our server was helpful, although I prefer a strong recommendation when requested, and really was only read the specials for the day. We started with the fried green tomatoes. They were tasty, with a slightly spicy sauce. I had the avocado, egg, bacon sandwich in a croissant which was delicious. Hubby had a make-your-own omelet with hash browns which he thought was just okay. My mom had a veggie omelet which she enjoyed. Kiddo had the kids egg, bacon, toast and enjoyed it. The grits that came with a few meals were bland and basically inedible. The breads were good, but if you don't want it slathered with marjoram, you need to say that when you order. We decided to go to this location since we visited the OP location and it's super tight and small. This location is super new and nicely decorated in a western motif. I appreciate the unisex bathrooms and the ease of getting in and out of the restaurant. Now I should preference that we were able to get in fairly quickly because we went to eat at 8 am. The staff was super friendly and efficient, the restaurant was clean and the food was good and filling. I ordered the seafood omelet and E ordered the 3 eggs, sausage, home fries and rye toast. The only crime against humanity was the crab cakes. I'm from Maryland and crab cakes are a staple like fried green tomatoes are here. When we went to OP they didn't have any crab meat so I figured when our server said they had crab meat I would jump at the opportunity to get a taste. So imagine how tightly I clutched my pearls when I saw two little cakes that resembled sad sausage patties come out on my plate. You cannot charge me $6 or anything more than a silver dollar for sausage discs. While quite tasty, almost like home, I would not object to a $12 crab cake that looked like a tennis ball instead of a gum machine ball. I'll eat here again, but I won't be eating crab cakes from here. read more

We finally had a chance to try Grump's and now I'm really mad we took so long to try it. Week after week we watch it be built and couldn't wait especially after seeing the menu to eat there. Like mentioned in other reviews they offer complementary coffee and water to enjoy while you wait. Great cup of free coffee. It took about 20 minutes to get a table for 2 inside. Our waitress was very cheerful and attentive. She offered us fresh squeezed orange juice which was even better then it sounded. The orange juice came in a large glass and was delicious. My wife ordered Fried Chicken Benedict with hash browns and I ordered the Crab Cake Benedict with home fries. My wife loved her food and I love my choice. The poached eggs were perfect. We also really liked the others food as well. We compared the hollandaise sauce to the eggs Benedict we used to enjoy at Brennen's in New Orleans years ago. It's that good. As we were about to leave the owner came over to our table and introduced himself. We happily told him how much we enjoyed the meal. He thanked us for the compliments on the meal and we wished each other well. If you live around Saint Johns and haven't been to Grumpy's yet you NEED TO GO THERE!!!! Great food and great service. We have been to the location in Orange Park and couldn't wait for 210 to open since we live off Russell Sampson. Beautiful design just behind the new Culver's. I know there will be one in Yulee and other sites later. Since they just opened two days ago they have lots of attentive trainers onboard. Great service. My husband had the large breakfast with pancakes. . I had the short stack with bacon. Unfortunately the short stack is made with huge pancakes about twice the size as he had.
