Found respite here on a cold winter night, a little too late to be out without something in our bellies. A little on the pricey side, but impossible to whine about the value when the quality of the cocktails and fries were this good. We had a $9 side of fries. They're shoestring with crunch and texture - a dusting of flour before being diving in the frier? The toothy texture and crispy fries carried the mayo and ketchup. I appreciated the cilantro garnish. Altogether these golden rays were just what we were looking for in the final hour of service on a cold night, rejuvenating is before facing the cold dark night again. I'm curious if the same fries are paired with their fish & chips main, so hoping to visit again soon.

To be straightforward- Gruit is fun, and gruit is different. It's a beer garden but they've also got an indoor seating area that sort of resembles a diner. They have an incredibly friendly staff, and they have one of the most unique menus I've seen in a very long time. All of the food is kosher, which means that the chefs had to get a little bit creative with some of the items on the menu- for example "crab cakes" made of pan fried corn and fennel relish, or wienerschnitzel made with beef bacon. Some of the food came off as a bit odd, while some of the food- the beef bacon stuffed medjool dates in particular- were an absolute hit. On top of the food, they've got a pretty wide selection of drinks. I got a pitcher of beer for $28, which is a pretty standard price. They also offer flights for beer tasting, wines, and a variety of other drinks If you're looking for a fun place to hang, especially outside, Gruit is a great place to be.

The coolest new place in Brooklyn - 25 minute walk from 770 so it is on the outskirts of Crown Heights, but still close enough. The decor inside is a modern/trendy diner feel with a retro bar in the middle - it is super cool! The atmosphere is very interesting- considering the location and that Gruit has a bar. It attracts all people - not just Jews which I personally love. The food of course is German cuisine which I feel like they really stick to the theme by having flights of beer and items such as, pretzels for what they call it "bites." They even take it a step further by having authentic dishes like breaded chicken wienerschnitzel and spaetzle on the menu as well! I personally RECOMMEND the pretzel (it is a beer garden - you can not come here without trying a beer and pretzel!), fried chicken wings confit - sooo delicious, crispy french fries - the truffle mayo sells the entire "bite", and the chocolate mousse cake for dessert. The service was amazing as well. The waiters and waitresses constantly checked on our table and were always pouring us water - it is really hard to remember the last time I had such great service even when the restaurant got busy! The runners who were giving us the food (goyim) even knew to tell us that the pretzel was ha-motzi. This always shows me the true service of a place. The prices were in my opinion, so reasonable - especially for kosher! I feel like you would pay the same amount at a non-kosher establishment. I can not wait to go back and try Gruit again. I will hopefully be able to sit outside this time (I forgot to mention they have a whole outdoor patio!)

Having never been to a Kosher restaurant, nor having tasted Jewish cuisine, I must say, Gruit is a delicious and wonderful experience that I recommend everyone must try! From the delightful hostess, to the yummy drinks the bartender made, to the cute atmosphere and decor, the politeness and knowledge from the servers and the kindness and hospitality from the manager, Menacem, there was absolutely nothing wrong! After being welcomed and sat from the hostess, the server waited on me promptly and gave me some recommendations. After sitting there awhile, the manager came over and asked if I was enjoying my evening and if I needed any help with the menu. After talking some and hearing some more house favorites, I went with some items he had mentioned. I could not believe how delectable and flavorful the BLT, General TSO Cauliflower, Creamed Corn Dumplings and Beef Fried Rice were! It is definitely a cute little spot for a cosy evening with friends or family with great drinks, food and people! If you have not been to Gruit, it is a true injustice!

Service and ambiance is great but the food was really strange, pretty much only way to describe it. Our party of 10 was not impressed.

I saw a small group having a little birthday party and they had pizza and a cake that they brought. I went to the Food Bazaar grocery a block or two away and got a sandwich from their deli to bring to the brewery. Next door is a cidery, I think a different owner. Outrageously expensive ($17 for a small glass of cider? lol). Stick to strong rope! They do have a cider or two on their menu normally. 2 minutes away is Steve's Key Lime Pie - recommend if you like frozen key lime pies on a stick dipped in chocolate ;)

I'm not vegan, but I like places I can enjoy with vegans. I had the not-for-vegans Cheddar Brat with Carmelized Onions and side of fries. The brat is on the small side but very flavorful and satisfying with the bretzel bun and stone ground mustard. The Carmelized onions were nice, but not neccessary for flavor. If I were to come back, I would just go for two brats on Bretzel buns and skip the side fries. The fries are natural cut, but likely frozen or double fried, which makes them taste more like oily starch than fried potato. The draft cider was cold and did well outside on the wood slat table with the help of the sturdy coaster. Bonus- dogs can hang with you outside, but need to stay outside while you step inside to order at the bar. Food took about 15min for prep and delivery around 5pm on a Wednesday. Outside seating is sidewalk adjacent without an awning for rain, but a tree can offer some shade.

(If that's not your jam, don't go!) But, if that is your jam, here are some of the things I love: 1) The service has always been attentive and fast, even when they're crazy busy. This is hard to do, and is appreciated! 2) This is a great place to go during the summer with outdoor seating, or in the cozy winter. 3) I love that they have abundant jenga and big tables. There is a ton of seating, and a large fireplace, as well as various games like Jenga four tables to play. It tends to get really packed in here and so it was a bit chaotic, however, the music was good and not too loud. This is a beer, forward place, with cider wine, cocktails, and some nonalcoholic drinks available as well as food. I had a Mezcal cocktail yesterday as well as a glass of Pinot noir, and both were pretty underwhelming. It's not somewhere that I would voluntarily go, as a crowd is a bit on the younger side (mid 20s) and it does give a "post college" vibe, but I can see why it's popular. One of the urinals apparently had vomit in it all afternoon which tracks. Service is generally quick but you have to go up to the bar to order. Crowded and a bit rowdy. Good for bar crawls.

With a party of 8 or more, they make you order off the family style menu, which was honestly great for us, and it only 48/pp which feels cheap! There are some extras you can add on that make it a bit more expensive, but still not bad. The apps we got from family style were SO good, the Ragu Sliders and arancini were so so so good. The arancini was perfectly fried and the ragu sliders were so flavorful. Thankfully our party was pretty full after all the apps, because the main dishes we're not so great. Our pizza was a bit floppy, the vodka pasta was ok and the cacio e pepe seemed to just be flavored buttered noodles. None of it was bad, it just was unimpressive after such GREAT apps.
