I've been coming here for over 10 years and it's still one of my go to spots. Just a heads up it's cash only so definitely bring cash. I usually do takeout but this time we actually sat down and ate there and I'm glad we did. The food came out really quick and you could tell it was made fresh, straight from the kitchen to the table. Everything was hot and flavorful. My go to is the BBQ chicken platter with rice and fries and it never misses. The chicken is always juicy with a good char on it and the portions are more than fair for the price. It's definitely a small hole in the wall type of place, nothing fancy at all, but that's part of why people keep going. On the tables they have ketchup, mayo and hot sauce and when we asked they brought BBQ sauce too which I appreciated. Simple place, good service, fresh food and not overpriced. It's a corner cash-only restaurant that serves good Portuguese style BBQ. I've only did takeout and we got plenty of food for the price. I give four stars because it's cash only and they don't post an online menu so you know the prices in advance. Other than that, the food's good! read more

I recommend this restaurant. I have been eating Portuguese BBQ my whole life and here they cook the food with more flavor than the typical Portuguese BBQ that is usually more bland. That also have a dining area. They are so busy, so the service may not be so friendly at times since the employees are very very busy but worth getting the good food. Food is affordable. read more

Grove street BBQ doesnt deserve even a 1star but I needed to rate them to post my review.​ They literally screwed up my order for pick up.Didn't get what was ordered .I ordered 3 dinners and an appetizer.My husband picked up food. Horrible experience I called over 3 times because the female workers kept hanging up clearly because they hate their job and didn't want to answer a couple questions after that first experience should have just not ordered after that . Beyond disappointed with this place. Nonetheless I order on the phone to pick up my food , first and foremost the prices online are not the prices they abide by. Next, The lady never, not even once mentions it's 'cash only' over the phone. I arrive to the place and she gives me attitude and assumes I know that it has always been 'cash only'. I had a taste for garlic shrimp and rice and this place was recommended to try. I called in my order of garlic shrimp, rice and fries and when I got there the lady told me they did not accept debit or credit. This is a CASH ONLY establishment. They did however have an atm, I still was a little annoyed by this because I had to pay the atm fee. To be honest them not accepting cards is the reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5. This rotisserie spot holds the top spot in my rankings. The meats are cooked beyond well done, and are very well complimented by their diverse range of sides and sauces. The flavor experience is simply explosive. The joint greets you with open doors, very welcoming atmosphere. Inside, the place is filled with smoke and light literally and figuratively. It's definitely worth giving a try. Note, it's a cash-only place and should be called ahead of time. I would wish to come back again coming from another state or just hungry. 5/5. read more

I decided to try this place out because my usual spot for some reason was close today so we called this place, place and order an order over the phone, not once does the lady mention this is a cash only joint. We get to the place and she says cash only, mind you this place is no where next to a bank or anything, she then says to me there an atm at the door, lucky I had some cash in my glove compartment. We then bring the food home, the fries stays funny, nothing like I ever tasted before, the shrimp doesn't taste like most Portuguese joints, the garlic sauce not as flavorful then one of the ribs just had fat on it, seems to be a vein in it and we asked for well done, it was red inside and no flavor. I generally give high reviews but this place definitely isn't that great. Ended up eating cereal. Won't be revisiting and $42.00 down the drain. I started taking out from Grove BBQ since 2014. Love the thick French fries and fresh rice. The flavor of the chicken is out of this world, but my very favorite are the Ribs. If I order a half order of ribs they give me 3 pieces, If I say I want them "well done" the ribs are actually well done. I love how the flavor sticks to the bone of the ribs. Never a disappointment at Grove BBQ. Ordering wise, even if I call ahead I still have to wait when I Get there which is understandable because they are always busy. Specially if it's on the weekends. So even though Grove is my to go place today I ended up ordering from the BBQ on South Plainfield and I wasn't happy at all. Hated everything... French fries were meh, rice so so... but the ribs were horrible (no flavor, and not cook well) What a disappointment. From here to now I will always order from Grove!!!!! read more

Good food and pretty cheap. There are other Portuguese/ Brazilian bbq spots 15 or so mins away but they tend to charge an arm and a leg. For less than $30 you can feed a family here. Service is really good (a bit brusque but that may be because futbol was on) and quick if you order ahead. By no means is the end all be all of Brazilian and Portuguese food. Not once not twice not even 3 times have they messed up our orders but almost every time. The people behind counter are rude and very un personable. They are so rude and blame everyone else but themselves for their mistakes and never once have they apologized. They need to fire everyone and change management immediately. The chicken is mildly spicy, with a subtle charcoal flavor, but, predictably, it was dried out by the time I got it home and ate it. The yellow rice was OK, but the fries were soggy, and tasted like frozen. The flavorful garlic sautéed shrimp was the best dish I tried, the grilled choriço sausage the worst. It was overcooked to shoe leather, and inedible after the first few bites. I didn't try any of the traditional desserts displayed in the refrigerator case--tre leches cake, cheesecake, flan, rice pudding--but they looked pretty good. I don't plan to come back here--there are tons of these Portuguese joints around here, but, based on the shrimp, I'll give the place a middling rating. read more

I forgot about this bbq place and was reminded by friends what a great place it is. I was going to an outdoor play this evening and picked up a bbq chicken and salad for our picnic. I requested a chicken that was recently cooked (the meats are placed in the oven to stay warm) and not dried up. I also requested the rice and not fries; and a salad with oil and vinegar. Much to my dislike, when I arrived at the picnic area with our meal, I discovered that the salad was only dressed in oil; disgusting. When I opened the stapled paper bag containing the chicken, they'd given me fries. And lastly, the chicken was overcooked and dried out. But I've gotten SICK from this place more than once ... we thought it smelled like bathroom once. Maybe they used bathroom sink water to make the rice?
