This just isn't a restaurant this is a fixture. Service is impeccable. They know your name your order your number. They ask about you, like they really mean it. The food is perfect. Never a bad order. I've had 30-40 orders at this point. Solid every time. Rice is light fluffy and has a hint of spice. Meat is perfect every time quality cut of pork or chicken cooked over a nice grill. Right amount of Smokey wood taste mixed with a slightly sweet and tangy sauce that adds the ever so slight crunch. Bone sucking good pork or chicken. I've have had 2 or 3 different style of fry's on occasion but they never miss. Crisp clean fresh taste lightly salted light fluffy inside. You're gonna be mad cause can't finish them all. Large servings that leave the perfect amount for the next day or a midnight snack. The establishment its self is clean and tidy. I come here allllllllll the time! Their food is off the hook. Most times I get the whole chicken with rice and fries. But have ventured out and tried several other times on their menu and am always satisfied! Their chicken is beautifully seasoned to perfection every time. Their fries are always fresh and crispy, with the right amount of salt. The vegetable rice is always cooked just right, never soggy or hard, doesn't matter if I come earlier in the day or later before they're due to close. The main guy who runs the counter is always friendly and offers a warm welcome when I visit. Just hands down a great operation for delicious food at a super reasonable price. Like I said I go here at least 2x a month, and will most likely be there next week since it's Memorial Day weekend. Called in a take out order. I ordered the garlic shrimp appetizer and the house steak special. The man on the phone told me about 20 minutes and that's about how long it took. I arrive a bit early So I waited a couple minutes and noticed that my food was being made fresh, which I always appreciate. I noticed they had a variety of drinks including the Portuguese soda Sumol. When the food was ready I paid and headed home. As we finally began to are our meals the shrimp was immediately a favorite. The steak was a little bit dry and over cooked. I asked for medium and it came well. Other that the steak being a tad dry the shrimp, rice, and French fries were absolutely delicious. Pretty standard Portuguese BBQ. Lots of rice, limp fries, and dry/overcooked meat. Personally, I like it. My wife, upon eating her dry as a bone chicken, says "this place always overcooks the chicken." This is the first time we've eaten food from here. It's just the way most Portuguese BBQ is I guess. So the guys working here were very friendly. Thanked me over and over for trying it out. I was asked how I like my beef ribs, which was nice, but it was not the medium I requested. That's fine though, the meat was still pretty tender. The rice was delicious, and I tried the red beans with it. There were carrots in the beans, which was super weird to me, but it all had the same flavor which was good so I didn't mind at all. The limp fries were good after a quick toast. Actually a little thicker than most other PBBQ joints I've tried, so I like that. Overall, pretty good but not the best. No Amex. I was super hungry and was looking forward to my first meal of the day. Chicken over all flavor was good. But it was extremely over cooked. The Chicken thigh was the only good part. I very much enjoyed my experience on my recent visit at the Estrela BBQ. It was my first time here and the person working behind the counter stated that he always recommends the half chicken for first timers. I was craving some ribs but I guess I'll get that next time. It was delicious but I would like to have either rice or fries and not both next time. I'll have to see if that's an option because that's way too many carbs for a meal as a side. I would have preferred more chicken instead. I have often gone to the BBQ places in the ironbound section of Newark and got used to seeing yellow rice paired with the chicken so to not see that was disappointing. However overall good place for what I ordered. I'll request some changes and get the ribs next time read more

Ordered on Saturday night around dinner we were told 20 minutes which wasn't bad.Never ordered from here before and had no idea how big the portions were! We said it was for 4 people so he said the 2 chickens was enough as it comes with rice and fries. We also wanted ribs he told us that's enough for 7-8 people. The ribs and chicken were both delicious! And their rice is sooo good. The ribs are dry but give sauce on the side. There's only one sauce though and it's hot. Definitely will be back! read more

Located right next to Thai House Rock and a laundromat, we probably drove by a million times and had no idea it was there. YELP found this in a BBQ search and we are so happy for it. Sure, the portions are HUGE, and the similar rice, fries, and 1/2 chicken and ribs combo for $15 is like other BBQ spots in our area. Their lunch specials can simply not be beat. For roughly $7.50-10 you can get your choice of chicken, pork, sausage, ribs, or steak served with rice and french fries. The amount of food that you are given can easily be enough for two meals. I chose the pork cutlets but instead of fries, I swapped a salad. The guy behind the counter was super friendly, was making suggestions, and couldn't have appreciated my business more. He didn't even charge me extra for swapping out the salad. Let it be known that this place is take-away only. Upon entering you will get a whiff of the sweet aroma of charcoal. That's because the meats here are cooked to perfection using charcoal grills. I would recommend calling ahead and placing your order. I walked in without calling and it took about 15 mins for my order to be up with no one else in the place. Ahh even as I type this, I can't help but salivate just a little bit thinking about that pork. Next time I stop by, I will surely be trying their rotisserie chicken as I hear great things.
