We were there tonight to celebrate my mother in law's birthday. Can't tell you how amazing the place was, the food was mouth watering delicious, the service was top notch and it's definitely kid friendly. We tried pretty much everything that was on the menu and I honestly can't decide which one was the best because they were all so delicious ! There are tons of Pakistani restaurants in NJ but this definitely tasted like authentic home cooked food. My only critic to the owners and management would be to have Pakistani music in the back ground and perhaps some images of Pakistan on the video screens located throughout the resultant to create the back home feel. Will most definitely be back for more very soon.

Perfect place for authentic lahori food. Friendly and timely service. Ambience is cool. Can match any great food place in Lahore.

    Indoor seating.

Excellent Biryani, different from most shops around. Like home cooked Biryani, rice were cooked separately

Shalimar, Woodbridge - Worth the Detour…read more Finding parking in Manhattan can feel nearly impossible--unless you're willing to pay what amounts to a full night's hotel rate just to stop for a short meal. On our way back to DC, we finally decided to stop somewhere more practical where parking wouldn't be a hassle. We ended up in Woodbridge and initially stopped at Shah's. Since my wife and I weren't in the mood for fast food, we asked the staff for a recommendation. Without hesitation, they pointed us to Shalimar, saying it was the best option in the area despite there being several Desi restaurants nearby. After a 10 min drive we arrived with fairly low expectations. The surrounding area felt a bit worn and unremarkable--but the moment we stepped inside, that impression completely changed. The restaurant was clean, modern, and felt recently renovated. Since we still had a long drive ahead, I asked for their specialty dishes. The initial interaction with the staff felt a bit rushed, as if they had somewhere else to be on a Friday night--but we managed to place our order. And then the food arrived. The sizzler was outstanding--perfectly seasoned, incredibly flavorful, and with a texture that really stood out. The chicken was juicy and tender, paired beautifully with buttery naan. The portion was massive--easily enough for four people, and even with our best effort, we still had leftovers. Asked for extra sauce to go but that came in as a no show. We also tried the Chapli kebab, which was equally impressive. Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and packed with flavor. The combination of red onions and green chili on the side elevated the dish even further. Service was a bit mixed. The younger staff seemed quite busy and not especially attentive, but the manager noticed and stepped in, which improved the experience. Before leaving, we grabbed a mango lassi and a falooda to go--both excellent and perfect for the drive back. Overall, the food, portion sizes, ambiance, and pricing were all outstanding. Even if the service wasn't perfect that evening, the quality of the food alone makes this a place we would absolutely return to when in the area.

We went to try their indo/chinese food as well as their indo-pak food; however, only after we sat down and started to order were we told there's no indo/chinese food as the chef didn't show up. That was the start of their lack of communication and poor service which continued throughout the night we ordered the chicken tandoori and a chicken handi plus samosa chaat. we also ordered tandoori naan, roghni naan, garlic naan and roti. the samosa chaat came out first along with complimentary papri. the samosa chaat was decent with good chole and samosa flavor and the papri tasted fresh. the tandoori chicken was average with some pieces being undercooked and others overcooked, but the flavor was decent. the worst dish was the karahi as it tasted as if the masala and the meat were cooked separately and then added in later. the karahi was not cheap so for that price expected better quality. the naan and roti were very good. overall, horrible customer service coupled with poor quality food and high prices. my suggestion is save your time, go to Houston and taste quality food!

There is also a paan shop, in one corner of the restaurant. We were a little bit confused as to where to sit or who to order from. Also from outside, it says "lovely sweet restaurant" which is actually the chaat/ mithai section. Nonetheless, we ended up ordering from Kandahar. Flounder with rice. It was very good. It was well seasoned, crispy and delicious. Generous portion of rice also with the dish. Lamb chapli kabob and boneless lamb cubes. This dish was also pretty good. Served with rice. The lamb was well seasoned. We enjoyed the food. Service was good. Manager came to our table couple of times to ensure everything was good. There was constant customer traffic back n forth. Alot of take out orders also.

My 10 month baby vomited on the floor. It's something I couldn't control, or foresee happening. We were very apologetic and looked out for someone to come over to help with the situations. All I hear one of the staff saying in Urdu saying "just give them tissue". I am confused as to why tissue? It was a lot of vomit all over underneath the table. So I responded back saying "may I instead get a mop". Mind you they didnt offer to come and help clean, they told us to clean it. Fine you want us to clean, then give a mop. There response was "we don't have a mop, we don't know how to clean a mop. The person that mops the floor is gone for the night and we can't have vomit on the floor, so you have to clean it with tissue." WHY IS THE MOPPING PERSON GONE BEFORE THE RESTAURANT CLOSED? are you sayin you don't clean the floors or kitchen after a full day of business dealing with food. That is unsanitary and needs to be reported to the health department. They gave us a handful of non absorbable paper towel, which didn't do anything to absorb the vomit. So my husband just tried to wipe the best he can and leave the paper towel covering the vomit left. As we are leaving they told us we had to pick up the paper towel and throw it. And then had the audacity to say "I am sorry". We left, OWNER of this establishment if you are reading this your staff or the policy you placed on how to deal with clean up is atrocious and how to treat customers you charge service fee for is disgusting.

The food here tends to be filling at a decent price while the service and atmosphere are so-so. I ordered my usual 2-piece seekh kababs and a butter naan. They brought out shaami kababs instead while I am almost positive I had stated seekh kababs, which is what I normally get there. Another 10-15 minutes passed; the correct order was finally brought out and the incorrect order taken away. The cook himself brought it out, staring at me creepily. Anyway, I started to eat and after a while, thought I had bit into a bone or something hard. When I spit it out, it was a flat white plastic bread clip/tab often used to close packets of burger buns, and it wasn't exactly small. I could easily have choked on it or worse, died. At the very least, it could have caused internal bleeding. I immediately asked for the manager and gave him a piece of my mind in a loud, trembling voice, obviously didn't pay and stormed out, letting them know that I have taken pics and can sue them if I want to. I have sworn not to return and warn others to be very careful with the food there if they decide to go.
