The setup here is a little different or kinda awkward. Well, we went to eat chaat/Mithai which is a little section inside the restaurant separate. There is also a paan shop, in one corner of the restaurant. We were a little bit confused as to where to sit or who to order from. Also from outside, it says "lovely sweet restaurant" which is actually the chaat/ mithai section. Nonetheless, we ended up ordering from Kandahar. Flounder with rice. It was very good. It was well seasoned, crispy and delicious. Generous portion of rice also with the dish. Lamb chapli kabob and boneless lamb cubes. This dish was also pretty good. Served with rice. The lamb was well seasoned. We enjoyed the food. Service was good. Manager came to our table couple of times to ensure everything was good. There was constant customer traffic back n forth. There is only one reason I will NEVER step foot into this establishment. They have no sense respect or dignity for their customers. Their emotional intelligence is a damn zero. My 10 month baby vomited on the floor. It's something I couldn't control, or foresee happening. We were very apologetic and looked out for someone to come over to help with the situations. All I hear one of the staff saying in Urdu saying "just give them tissue". I am confused as to why tissue? It was a lot of vomit all over underneath the table. So I responded back saying "may I instead get a mop". Mind you they didnt offer to come and help clean, they told us to clean it. Fine you want us to clean, then give a mop. There response was "we don't have a mop, we don't know how to clean a mop. The person that mops the floor is gone for the night and we can't have vomit on the floor, so you have to clean it with tissue." WHY IS THE MOPPING PERSON GONE BEFORE THE RESTAURANT CLOSED? are you sayin you don't clean the floors or kitchen after a full day of business dealing with food. That is unsanitary and needs to be reported to the health department. They gave us a handful of non absorbable paper towel, which didn't do anything to absorb the vomit. So my husband just tried to wipe the best he can and leave the paper towel covering the vomit left. As we are leaving they told us we had to pick up the paper towel and throw it. And then had the audacity to say "I am sorry". We left, OWNER of this establishment if you are reading this your staff or the policy you placed on how to deal with clean up is atrocious and how to treat customers you charge service fee for is disgusting. read more

I went in late at night. I think the location closed at 10pm and I went around 9pm. Decently busy as customers filled half the seating and it looked like there was a lot of pickup orders being made. I walked up to the counter with a vague idea of what I wanted cause my order wasn't on the electronic menu board. Whoever asked for my order then asked if this was what I wanted while pointing toward one of their takeout menus. It was the correct item. He marked off my order and asked me to sit down while I wait. There was no indication that he wrote my order down or progress on it as they were busy but it was all ready in about 10 or 15 minutes. When I paid, I did notice the prices in store were slightly cheaper than delivery apps. It's probably to cover delivery app fees but I use those apps to check menu offerings and pricing. So it was a sweet surprise I ordered a falafel plate to go. It had plenty of falafel, hummus, and this red type of paste to share with sauces. Food was good, no complaints. My family has been ordering from here for years and for years this little restaurant has been putting out quality. We always order the mixed grill platter which includes kebabs, kufta, lamb chops and rice. It comes with a side salad and some sauces. If you love flavorful, filling portions of meat over rice, this place is for you. I love love love lamb and the lamb from here is cooked to perfection every single time. Although I don't like raisins in my rice, the afghan rice is so delicious and compliments the grilled meats. Throw some salad on top with white sauce and hot sauce and you have the perfect bite in every mouthful! I've personally never dined in here but the takeout is always fresh and hot when we pick it up. The workers are all very nice and accommodating when the order isn't ready if you arrive too soon. I never rush them because I'd rather wait an extra 15/20 min than to have undercooked meat. we went to Kandahar in Edison today with our family .our bill came out to $177.16 before tax when we went to pay the staff handed us a card machine and when we asked them specifically told us the tip was not included.Trusting that we added the tip. we received a receipt after we paid.we then noticed an 18% service fee had already been added to the bill.when we asked this, the staff told us that the service fee is different "from the tip " and that it was for the "service provided". This feels misleading and unfair to customers.A service fee of 18% should have been clearly explained upfront- especially since we directly asked @ the tip.we were led to believe it wasn't included and ended up double tipping. I want to share this so the others dining here are aware and can check their bill carefully before adding anything extra .we don't mind tipping but transparency is an important part of good business practices. Kandahar cheat us we will dispute those charges and report to the better business bureau as well .from my family and friends will never go to Kandahar simply they cheat the customers . very disappointed. read more

We ordered the chicken chapli kabab dinner - the spices were slight and my mom felt the chicken was undercooked that we took it home to cook some more. The bengain burani appetizer was delicious and the saving grace for the food. Ambiance was ok - expected for a takeout/sit-in spot on oak tree road. I think the service really dug the review to a 2 star - we placed our order quickly upon arrival - we asked for water they bought two bottle of water. We had already seen they charge per bottle so we said we only want one, they said no problem and just left the second one in the corner of our table. However they added it to our bill and we had to ask them to remove which first they were saying it's just water we can buy and take home but we didn't want it and so they finally removed it from the bill. Our appetizer came quickly but our main meal they forgot about - the server was surprised that it hadn't come and then went to check and we could see she was asking them to make it. By the time we got our food it was 15 mins before closing and they all kept saying to finish soon. read more

In the midst of all the Indian restaurants in the area, this stands our as bending unique. The portion sizes are really big for the price and the taste is amazing! I finally got the chance to swing by this place to try their food. I called in my order of the chicken korma and the man said it would take about 25 minutes. When I arrived I parked in a lot nearby. I walked in and they had indoor seating available. I told the man I was picking up and my name. I paid a little over $13 and I paid with credit card. He grabbed my food, I thanked him and I left. When I got home I dug in and the food was so tasty. The chicken was seasoned so nice and I liked the rice. The only thing is there was a lot of bones and I wish there was more chicken. I've ordered here from Grubub so many times I can't even even count. I also did pick up here as well. Obviously, I really like Kandahar! Portions are generous, and they make the best Kabuli Pulao I ever had! The reason why I'm rating it 4 stars and not 5 stars is sometimes it can inconsistent, but it's always good! There are several people cooking here so that is probably why. The dips I had here were the hummus and baba ghanoush. Those were just ok not that great. The shepherds salad is good! The best thing to order here are the lamb chops! They are AMAZING! They have such a delicious Afghan flavor to them! You have to try them! I also really like the chicken chops too! The chicken kebab I had here as well which was good! For desserts I had the baklava and Gulab Junin which were ok. Both need to have more honey to make it more sweet. One of a kind place where they actually don't care about the customer service. It took us thirty minutes to get a table of 8 at 9:30pm on a Saturday evening. Order was taken and no sign of food after 40 mins. It turned out they don't even have the order placed in the system. I wrote the order on a paper because waiter was not able to memorize or take notes properly. The food arrived forty minutes later. Later, they offered us a discount on the bill by not charging us tip. They really thought they deserved a tip for the service they provided. I did another review of an 'Afghani' (currency of Afghanistan is an Afghani, the correct adjective/adverb in English is AFGHAN) restaurant in Jersey City. Turns out they are both peculiarly owned by desis (Indian Pakistani people). I'm sorry to say, with little exception (someone who can BBQ with a seekh in a tandoor ie Shah nawaz) most Indian Pakistani restaurants CANNOT cook grilled meat. For instance they tend to serve all the red meat well done every single time, or loaded with oil A lot of their meat tastes like it was thawed after being frozen, and God knows how long those things have been in freezer. They have a mentality to be cheap/save to the point they don't care about their customers so I am always suspect of anything that can remotely be frozen or canned. This might make sense for seafood (fishermen don't fish everyday let alone distribute and deliver as efficiently as meat), but not meat. The restaurant hours are until 12am. I come at 10:58 and want a seat. They say they are closed down and will shut their doors at 11:30 strict (they are still open and taking customers when I leave the surrounding shops at 11:35). I tell him this and show it on my phone "Okay sir then you go" rudely waving me off. I'm starving and this was the option I looked up on Yelp before driving all the way from from Jersey City though. I order lamb chops, taste thawed, the guy is an asshole as I'm ordering walking away and coming back. He tells me to 'add' a salad and can't do a smaller side. I go home and check the 'salad' has no olive oil on it and is cucumber+tomato+mozarella. ANd not any kind of moza, but the plasticy noodle type you see at cheap mexican restuarants. Get charged an absurd markup ~$40 for a salad, and lamb chops. Also I cannot sit in the restaurant altho it closest in an hour. There is a Pani Puri shop that they also say has 'closed' although I catch a guy serving swweets from there and make him also put some down for me. The sweets are about $10/lb and seem to have a lot of creamier options. In short you have to elbow your way around here like the third world. And of course....he charged $2 more than the scale indicated. Typical desi third world mentality. Cheap. They think they are making $2 on overcharging you or a $1 for a bottle of water, but they don't realize they are losing $100 on the potential earnings of a customer they now lost forever. Oh but it's still not over. I decide to go down to Shalimar-same owner as it turns out. The lady at Shalimar 'does me a favor' by splitting my order between two vegetables (the food at desi restaurants is cooked at noon so it's only been sitting out for 11 hours, lucky me!). I throw out the channe/chickpeas once I get home as they taste rotten. I would describe this restaurant in one word for people who may understand Urdu/Hindi: ghatiya (low vulgar contemptible). TLDR: F this place and go to Edison folks, you're 80% there from Hudson County. Come here if you want to be disrespected, and any suggestion of customer service is met with a curteous 'F off' read more

We also asked for turkish rice with the orzo, and the guy handed it to my sister telling her thats what it was. Instead they gave plain white rice with no flavor.
