    The accompaniment of Qurma Palow

With both our children out to parties on a Saturday night, this old couple decided to venture out into little known territory ... and chose this Afghan restaurant. It is spacious and kinda strangely shaped, and we wondered what it was before becoming a restaurant. Their menu reads like a transition from Indian/Pakistani to Middle Eastern - where else would you see falafel on the same page as briyani? Although it is a meat heavy cuisine, this vegetarian found a delicious main course - Ashak, steamed dumplings stuffed with scallion and herbs, and topped with a lentil yogurt sauce. It was surprisingly delightful! And my carnivorous husband was really happy with his choice of Qurma Palow. We will bring our children here in the near future - they will love it too! I asked our waitress if they'd have more vegetarian choices, she named a few other things on the menu - appetizers and side dishes, plus bread - that I could feed on. No matter, I wouldn't mind eating Ashak a few more times!

Lamb shank with rice, carrots, and raisins. Fall off the bone meat with a ton of deliciously seasoned rice.

My friend and I chose Sarinas for this month's ethnic dinner outing. The restaurant is spacious which allows you to have a comfortable conversation while dining. We started with an appetizer course of samosas, potato bolani, and mantoo. The samosas and bolani were crisp and delicious with the accompanying dipping sauce and the spicy sauces that were on the table. (Green and red sauces both add a wonderful piquancy). The mantoo comes with it's own sauce and was a tender and flavorful dumpling dish. We moved on to a main course of the lamb shank with rice, raisins, and carrots and the goat curry. The lamb shank was fall off the bone tender and the rice was redolent with exotic seasoning. The goat curry was a show stopper, tender as can be in a deeply flavorful sauce, all for $9. Many individuals would stop there but since we're gourmands and the food was excellent, we asked to see the menu again. Certainly glad we did, as the beef kofta kabob was one of the best bites of the night. A flavorful beef mix with a zesty spice coating that is grilled to perfection. We also had the lamb curry and it approached the goodness of the goat curry. Figuring that was just about enough savory food for one evening, we moved on to the baklava and firnee. The baklava was served warm with a decadent amount of buttery flavor and the firnee was a tasty pudding featuring some deep flavor. As a tip, if you're interested in the Kashmiri tea you should tell the staff early as it can take a while to make. We'll return to try it another time and give the rest of the menu a try. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Table sauce. Can not wait to eat it

Yum! I've been craving Afghani food ever since i Moved out of Watchung, and had to leave behind my beloved silk road restaurant, in Warren, New Jersey. Everything we ate and drank here was fantastic . My boyfriend was a little nervous because he had never tried this type of food before . However, as soon as he had a taste, he told me that he was "calling dibs" on any leftover food. The dogh (yogurt drink) was refreshing and had pieces of mint in it that were bursting with fresh herbal flavor. I became completely obsessed with the table sauces and put them on everything I could. Rice and kebab were both cooked perfectly. The only improvement could be that the person who served us (I think he may be the owner) Was not friendly . Not a huge deal.

From a perspective of someone who is not very much into afghan cuisine this could be a decent place. But if you are seriously into afghan food or similar cuisine this place is not for you given the food is average. I ordered combo3 to get a taste of all types of meat offerings and more or else it was either overcooked with slight burned edges, adana kebab was the only exception being undercooked. Overall its not a bad place for a starter or even family night out but certainly not for serious food lovers.

Chicken Veggies Soup, brown rice ,chicken Sambosa, and potato Bolani . Perfect meal for a cold night .

This place continues to amaze ! Lentil daal, Murgh Palow, Badunjan Burani And a combo platter #2 we're all so delicious . I'm happy to have left overs for tomorrow. The food is so flavorful but not spicy hot( unless you add some of their special sauces !) . This is a must try in Suffern .

I bookmarked the spot to come back to, and within the week, I came back and ordered takeout for the dish most fellow reviewers raved about -- the Uzbeki Qabuli Pulao. When I got home and opened the bag, I was pleasantly surprised to find a small side salad and the dish I recognised from a visit to another nearby restaurant specialising in Uzbeki food -- the plov! The rice was really well seasoned and the lamb shank was so tender it fell off the bone. Everything was really flavourful and well balanced, even for take-out. Unlike the other place, this plov was still sweet without being cloyingly so. I had such good impression that I'm excited to return in the future and try their other dishes, since I heard *everything* Dunya Kebab House does is impeccable.

The service was friendly, and the food came out extremely quickly. I felt we were being rushed just a tad, but not a huge deal. For appetizers, the falafel ($7?), Mantu ($8?), and bholani cadu ($6?) were ordered. Regarding the falafel, there were five to an order. The falafel was very crispy and had decent flavor. I thought they needed a little more seasoning present. The Mantu were Afghan style dumplings filled with ground beef, onions, and seasonings. It was garnished with homemade mint yogurt and lentil sauce. This was light and soft with tons of flavor. The dumplings were filled appropriately, and the lentil sauce was a pleasant addition. The bholani cadu was a thin fried pastry filled with butternut squash and seasoned with fresh herbs and spices. This was interesting. The wonton was very crispy. The squash filling was sweeter than I thought, but still tasty. I also might add all of the three sauces provided at the tables were good, with the cilantro one being my favorite (cilantro I believe anyway). For my entrée, I had the lamb shank ($38?). It came with a soup, salad, a choice of rice, and naan. The soup appeared to be a lentil soup. It came out hot and was very pleasant. The salad consisted of tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers. It was prepared nicely as all the pieces were small and a good size portion. The simple dressing was great too. The lamb shank came with a few vegetables. The lamb was extremely tender, but not much meat was on the bone. There needed to be a little more seasoning too as it was lacking. I am just glad the lamb was so tender. I went with the Kabuli rice which had steamed carrots and raisins on top. This was fluffy and flavorful with a ton of it. The naan was okay, a little too crispy. I also tried the lamb chops. They had an unreal cook on them and seasoned well. I also tried the zamarud rice, which was good too. For dessert, the rice pudding ($8?) was ordered. It was creamy and filling. The nice crunch from the pistachios on top was a good addition. Will I go back? I would, yes.

The country's cuisine reflects its multicultural history, with influences from Persian, Central Asian, Indian, and even Mediterranean culinary traditions. Though the food was served quickly, it wasn't made quickly. Rice, particularly long-grain varieties like basmati, is blanched for a day before it's cooked. Meats are marinated in carefully prepared concoctions for hours to ensure tenderness. Lamb shanks are stewed for hours each day. Never had Afghan food? You're not alone. There are only a handful of Afghan restaurants in NJ. Located at the Westfield Plaza off of South Avenue E, some of my colleagues decided on takeout as first-timers for lunch, which came recommended as the food tastes and feels like home from this family-owned and -run establishment. We called the order in for their family platter consisting of Ground Chicken, Lamb and Beef Kababs, Garden Salad, Brown Rice, Fresh Naan Bread, and a side of Potatoes with a red sauce and yogurt. Upon arrival at Famous Kabab Cuisine, my colleague and I were greeted by the owner, Ahmed, who has more than 25 years of experience in making fresh bread and kabob, and informed us of a 5-minute wait. The food remained hot back into the office, would feed 5, and have some for leftovers. The kebabs (ground chicken, beef, and lamb) were well seasoned, tasted delicious, and paired beautifully with the brown rice. Top that bread or kebab with the trio of sauces. A white yogurt sauce with dill is very reminiscent of tzatziki sauce, a vinegary green sauce with cilantro and pureed walnuts, and, for those who do want the heat, a red habanero sauce that should have come with a warning. Overall, one can tell the food was made fresh with quality ingredients. It is not cheap, but one gets decent portions, which we can recommend.
