Back in NYC, Golden Krust is usually the go to spot for patties, but this location has completely changed my perspective because the full menu is worth exploring. Every time I've ordered, the food has been fresh, flavorful and consistently good. Whether it's the curry dishes, jerk chicken, oxtail, soups, porridge, or their variety of patties, from beef to vegetable, everything has been satisfying. They also stock Caribbean favorites in the fridge, like carrot juice, which is the perfect addition to the meal. One thing that genuinely surprised me was the customer service. I wasn't expecting much the first time I walked in, but every visit has been pleasant. The staff is friendly, my orders are accurate, and the service is consistently good. And, if you know Caribbean take out restaurants, you know the joke: most times the best food comes with the roughest customer service. Thankfully, that's not the case here. The warm service actually matches the quality of food, and that's one of the reasons I keep coming back. I am a big fan of Golden Krust! I used to frequent the ones in Union and Newark quite a bit when I worked in the area. Since moving jobs I had missed the deliciousness but now it's close again. This restaurant is in the old White Castle, on what me and my family call fast food row. I ordered the curry chicken, stewed chicken, and fish combos large. I chose large because we are big eaters and wasn't sure about the portions at this location. Let me tell you, I didn't need to worry! We ate three whole separate meals from this order. I also tried their chicken and spinach patties. So good-flaky and stuffed. My whole order was about $60. I think that's pretty good especially when you factor in the amount of food you get. I was today years old when I discovered a Golden Crust in Plainfield, NJ! As a native New Yorker, I have spent many meals enjoying the Jamaican delights at NYC Golden Crusts locations. So with haste, I made my way from Central Jersey to this location bringing my mother along for the ride. As soon as we walked in, we were overwhelmed with delicious aromas and pleasant smiles from the staff. This establishment is immaculate! Clean, updated, comfortable seating, a drive thru, and it even has a skip the line kiosk to place orders. Am I dreaming? The presentation of the food bar is pristine. Everything was delicious! The options are truly endless and the quality is top tier. I ordered many of our favorites, such as oxtail, curry goat, curry chicken, chicken soup, patties, plantains etc. Every dish was a homerun. I ordered a small brown stew chicken on Sunday, and as you can see, the portions were huge. This restaurant gets a bad wrap because they're franchised, but this entree was delicious !!! I'm paitently waiting for this spot to open and I was pleased with my experience. When you walk in the restaurant it is very clean and has a fee tables available to eat at. An older woman greeted me and my fiance, and she was very pleasant while taking our order. I feel the pricing and what we received were fair. There is no menu, and there are no prices. I have never been more confused at a restaurant. There was a buffet all sorts of food; meats, veggies, etc. But none of it was labeled. I asked for jerk chicken, not because I wanted it, but, just assumed they had jerk chicken because it's a Jamaican place. They ask me if I wanted a small or large. No price difference was provided. I just had to pay whatever they told me it was. There was all this other food that I would have been interested in trying, but you have to ask them what each dish is. Went there 2 days in a row.. the staff was so friendly they greeted us as soon as we entered the restaurant. There was about 5 people already there when my husband and I got there, I got large oxtail with rice and peas cabbage extra gravy and fried plantain.. my husband got small curry chicken with same sides.. he ate all his food the first day and we went back yesterday he got another curry chicken with extra cabbage and black cake. The food was outstanding and staff was extremely nice both days. The inside of the restaurant was clean nothing special. Both days we got our food to go.. they have a drive-thru but we went inside. I love all the Golden Krust restaurants. I'm from the Caribbean and I love the food. The staff are very nice and friendly. The only problem that I notice with all the golden krust is the they put too much gravy on top of the rice. I usually ask for no gravy because I know when they put whatever meat you order which your food it will have enough gravy but sometimes I forget to mention it so when I do get the food the rice is very wet.
