The second round of issues, after the repair.

I originally called Grout Experts to retile our bathroom after reading the amazing reviews. Michael came out to give us an estimate, and he was very nice and got us on the schedule quickly. On the appointed day, Carlos and Daniel came out to do the work, however, Carlos left and only Daniel remained to do the work. Everything started out fine, and then Daniel told me that I need to go and pick up grout to do the job, I asked what kind, and tried to show him the pictures on the Home Depot website, but he just told me he was pretty sure I needed sanded grout and he couldn't tell me anything else about it. Fine. I went to Home Depot, purchaser the grout and brought it back for him to use. As he was close to finishing, he asked me if I had any extra tiles for the bath, as he had broken one off two day prior during demo. We did not, so he place and ill-fitting tile in place of it, and grouted it with gray grout, so it looks terrible. He also then proceeded to also tell me that my tile was thin and cheap, and it might crack. I then asked him why he didn't tell me this prior to installing it. (I also asked Carlos this question when he returned later that day) and both of them told me it wasn't their problem or their place to tell me, they were just there to do the job. After they finished the job and left, I opened the door and found the mess they left behind. The porcelain in my sink and tile in my shower were stained black, there was dirt coating the walls, exhaust fan and in the cabinets, and the inside of my toilet was coated black. I spent a total of 4 hours cleaning a 60 foot bathroom space, and the walls are so dirty we have no choice but to paint them. I let the tile and grout sit to dry for 48 hours, and then steam-washed it with my steam mop, which is when I noticed that the grout was flaking out. I immediately called Michael, who assured me someone would come to fix it immediately. I also noted with Kim, the scheduler, when I called, that I did not want Daniel back in my house. Michael and Carlos showed up Wednesday morning to look at the issue, and both decided that the grout used was most likely expired, and said they would buy more grout and get it fixed, and Carlos said his 'guy' was at Home Depot right then buying grout, and, although Carlos couldn't stay, his guy would fix it. Imagine my surprise when I came home, and Daniel was, again, in my bathroom. I immediately contacted Michael to voice my displeasure, and was assured that he was confident Daniel would do a good job and remedy the situation. I immediately called Kevin to voice my displeasure, but was unable to speak with him until after Daniel had left. Upon Daniel leaving, I went into my bathroom to once again see that my sink had mysteriously turned black again, and there was a whole bag of grout stuffed under the cabinet. I grabbed the bag to move it, not realizing it was stuffed in there with a hole in both the grout bag and the plastic bag it was in, which caused a mess on my floor, both of which I had to clean up. When my husband returned, we looked at the floor by the door, and saw that the grout, which had supposedly been fixed, was flaking again. I sent a message to both Kevin and Michael, but we are currently right back to where we started, just a week later in the process, and still do not have a resolution. We were planning on listing our house next week, but now I'm not sure where we stand, or how we can move forward in getting this situation remedied. I'm upset, frustrated, and will have to pay for a project that was not done up to anyone's standards.

Awful experience and I could have done a better job of caulking myself, which is saying a lot since I've never had to caulk anything in my life. The pictures don't lie. They removed and replaced the caulking in our shower and scrubbed/refreshed the grout. The caulking job was a joke, they left HOLES in the grout and the caulking wasn't done correctly, which caused us to spring a leak from the shower and they wouldn't return our calls after we noticed the damage. If I could give 0 stars, I would.

    Rotted grout not fixed.

AVOID WORKING WITH THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS!!!! WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. We should have paid more attention to the yelp reviews but we were desperate and hoped we would get one of the good techs as there were at least a few good reviews on yelp. Michael came and did the estimate and was very courteous and seemed knowledgable. The technician who did the actual work spent less than two hours doing a job that was supposed to include repairing our cracked shower grout, steam cleaning the shower floor, resealing and coloring the bathtub and shower grout, and caulking the bathtub and shower. At the end of the job there was caulk and color-stain all over the bathroom, none of the areas were actually regrouted, several lines of shower grout were not color-sealed at all, and only half the bathtub grout was done. It looked like a toddler had been given a can of paint and tube of caulk. The old caulk that was removed was left all over the bathroom. Michael did come back to reinspect, agreed that it was an incredibly poor job and said that he was embarrassed about the work that had been done. He agreed to send their top technician,"Sonny," to redo the work the following day. The following day we waited over 3 hours for Sonny to show up and then the SAME GUY who did the initial job walked into our house. In disbelief I called the company, asked to speak to Kevin, the president, but was instead routed to Michael the estimator and their office manager who rescheduled Sonny again. Sonny finally did show up the following day and did an acceptable job. A few days later when the company called to collect payment I was finally able to speak to Kevin who was extremely unapologetic and told me all he aims to do at his company is get the job done eventually. For anyone who has time for a job to be botched, rescheduled, redone and require multiple phone calls over several days by all means hire these guys. For anyone else, do yourself a favor and wait to find the right company or do the job yourself.

They patched a leaky corner in the shower. Everyone was professional and helpful. I plan to have them come yearly to re-caulk my shower.

When the estimator came to check out the job, he was very friendly and professional. I asked if they could also clean the mold in the bath grout (glass tile); he said yes so I asked him to add this to the proposal. I discussed the proposal in detail over the phone and scheduled the job. The marble was cleaned and polished but some of the dirt in the cracks did not come off. My biggest disappointment, though, was that the mold in the grout between the bath shower tiles did not come off completely. When I asked why the black spots didn't come out, the reasoning that was given to me was that the mold is too deeply embedded in the grout. I asked whether the solution used contained bleach, and the answer was no, that bleach can cause damage to tiles, and the solution used (created by their own chemist) doesn't contain bleach for this reason. So I sprayed my own tile with bleach. The first picture shows before and after. On the left is the grout cleaned by CSI, and the picture on the right is 5 minutes after spraying with bleach. I expected the tile to look like the picture on the right when I asked CSI to include this in their quote (I paid $375 for this part of the work, when $5 bottle of bleach did the work). The second picture is the marble floors in the kitchen, finished product. Cleaned and polished, though still some dirt can be seen. Overall I liked the company and their customer service. I gave them feedback and they were receptive to improving their work.

My appointment was scheduled through text, and in the screenshots below you'll see where they quoted me "ballpark $129." Then they tell me that they have off site washing as well and the tech will assess the condition on arrival. Note that there isn't a mention of the huge increase in cost for offsite cleaning (this becomes relevant later.) The appointment was for some time between 11-1 and at 12:45 I get a text saying they'll be there in 30 minutes. Fine. I'm used to this kind of thing happening. Nonetheless, I did block out this time in my day and unlike some, I don't have today off for Indigenous People's Day. The tech comes in (I later learn he's the owner) and he immediately tells me that my rug smells like dogs. Ok..... I have two dogs so I guess I'll buy that. Then he says he recommends offsite cleaning and that's going to cost $175. There's no explanation of why he recommends offsite cleaning and why it's more expensive so I ask what the difference is, and he tells me the difference is the price. Ok....? So I tell him I don't want to pay $179 when I was expecting ballpark $129, and can this be done in house? Yes it can, but due to the smell, it's going to cost you $150. Again, no explanation and I have to ask what smell has to do with getting the rug to look cleaner and brighter. All he can tell me is that if they don't treat for the smell, the cleaning will only exacerbate things. At this point, I decide to voice my frustration about the fact that the extra costs were not discussed with me. Immediately he tells me that all costs were discussed and he knows this because he records and listens to every call. Dude - there was no call on this so now I know that you aren't a very honest person. I say, "ok, could you send me that recording?" knowing full well that he has no recording. I didn't expect the response to be yes but he gets very defensive with me at this point and I just say, "you know what, you're here and I need to get this done so let's just do the in house cleaning for $150." I'm skipping over the fact that he is continuously telling me that he knows costs were disclosed because he trains everyone himself, etc. and then he says, "what do you think an in-home assessment is?" That kind of questioning of a client just makes the situation feel worse. Are you implying that I'm an idiot? I didn't like this guy's attitude and it's important to note that when I initially expressed frustration, I wasn't yelling or being rude. I simply stated why I felt frustrated and the defensive stance started right away. Not the kind of interaction I want to have with any business. Finally, I start moving furniture off my rug and after all that he tells me he doesn't want to do the work. I will admit that now I'm pretty livid because I took the time out of my day, and there was zero reason for him to refuse to clean my rug, other than he didn't like the fact that I expressed frustration. It's like the minute I tell him that costs were not discussed with me, he engages in child-like behavior. I know this is long, but I'm posting because A) You need to know that the ballpark they quote may actually be a lot higher, and B) If you're looking for an explanation of why certain services are needed, you won't get a whole lot of info. Oh and the kicker is that he told me if I posted a negative review, he'd take action. Cool. Awesome person.

Green-Gen apparently is all about making green $$, rather than keeping promises to their customers. They double-book jobs and assist only the most lucrative booking that day :( The company cares more about the highest paying job rather than keeping a commitment to your scheduled appointment. I had a small studio cleaning appointment scheduled two entire weeks in advance. The afternoon of my scheduled appointment, the scheduler guy calls an hour into the 12-2pm expected service window to tell me the technician would be arriving closer to 4pm because the current customer had added cleaning needs? I pleaded for the tech to arrive as soon as possible, reminding the scheduler my cleaning was time-sensitive, and asked for a discount since I had to pay a fee to the moving company due to the cleaning tech being late. The scheduler guy said he would call me back. Instead, over an hour later, he only texted back that they were fully canceling on me. He would not pick up my call, and he never called me back to reschedule...so he made it quite easy for me to make sure to choose a more professional and customer-oriented cleaning company in the future. I sincerely hope you avoid this company too. This was a truly unkind and disappointing experience. "GREED-Gen" would be a more appropriate name for this company. There are Many other cleaning services in Chicago who use eco-friendly products. No need to support an unprofessional company like this. I blame the inept scheduler, not the technicians. It's too bad that the terrible customer service of their unreliable scheduler has lost future business & tips for his techs, and has given me no choice but to leave a bad review.
