missing grout less than 2 months after installation
    Don L.

I hired Grout Medic about 2 years ago to add caulking in a shower and clean the bathroom grout in one of my bathrooms and they did a good job. However, I hired them again, earlier in 2025 (i.e. Mar/Apr timeframe) to do additional work in 2 upstairs bathrooms, but didn't have a good experience and the reason for repair still hasn't been resolved. For the project in 2025, I had them clean and add caulking/sealant to 2 tub enclosures and this was done in a nice manner. For one of the bathrooms, I also needed floor tile grout repair but unfortunately I continue to have issues with this portion of the project, even after Grout Medic sent the same technician to do "repairs" 3 times over a 2-month period after their initial work was completed. Project context: I purchased my home in Sept 2022 and it was a complete remodel so the tile flooring that I was asking Grout Medic to repair was less than 3 years old. I didn't see the original grout start to crack until a few months prior to calling Grout Medic, so whatever grout type and installation method used by the seller/contractor, it lasted for 2 1/2 years. When I had an inspection and quote with Grout Medic's sales guy, Michael Miller, he said the reason for the original grout failure was due to lack of bonding to the subfloor. As part of the repair project, he recommended applying extra glue in over 15 corners around/under the tiles to strengthen the bond between the tile and subfloor before doing the regrout. After Grout Medic completed this work, their repair job only lasted a few weeks before I noticed grout starting to disintegrate and fall through the cracks. They came back out 3 times to do spot repair over a 2-month period and I observed the same product failure w/in a week after each visit. I am the only person using the bathroom and only weigh 150 pounds so was surprised at how quickly the product failed me. The last time I emailed and spoke with Michael (approx. June), I asked that if we were trying the same approach and it wasn't resolving the issue, could we try another type of grout (i.e. siliconized grout), and he said they don't do that. I was also asking if they had the right mixture and if the technician was applying it correctly. My issue is that even if there is a larger subfloor issue, why did the original grout product last for 2 1/2 years before failure, and Grout Medic's solution (to include extra bonding glue), didn't even last a few weeks before needing repaired again. Michael told me to email a request for warranty repair to have someone review my case, but I never heard back from anyone at Grout Medic and that was several months ago.

    Complete clean, regrout and recaulk
    Debra F.

I needed some regrouting and recaulking done on one of my bathrooms. Set up a project on Yelp and Grout Medic were the first to respond. That was within minutes and they were out the very next business day. I went with Grout Medic as they did seem to have very good reviews from reliable reviewers on Yelp and their prices were reasonable for the work I wanted doing. On the day of the job, Tony showed up and I'm not kidding, the guy worked from 10.30 to 6pm non stop. The sweetest guy and he took such great care to do a good job. Touched up after we did a walk through. Try these guys out, they're worth it.

    After

We have an older house with original tiles and we did not want to replace them, but we did want them to look "new". When the representative first came into our home, he was very open and honest about the process. He took his time to explain everything to us and gave us a few options. Because the price was so reasonable, we added an additional job that same day. Geraldo came to our home about a week later. He took was very polite and took his time to explain what all he would be doing. Because our appointment was later in the day, the work was slated for 2 days (both with Geraldo). I couldn't be happier with the work performed and the value of the service for the money we paid. I strongly recommend the grout medic!

I hired Neil and his team to replace a shower floor where the tile and grout were apparently not installed correctly and over the course of 5-6 years started cracking and breaking up. I was concerned that the wall shower tile would be impacted too. They sent Gerardo to do the work. He did an amazing job of careful demo of the shower floor, removed the existing tile and grout, did not scratch or ding the adjacent wall tiles, and went on to lay new tile expertly, grouted and caulked beautifully so that the shower floor looked new and should not leak because he installed the waterproof board material under the tile like the original installers didn't use. So happy I could find a very high quality tile and grout professional that was also ethical in just repairing what needed to be replaced rather than trying to sell me on an entirely new shower which would have cost so much more and which wasn't needed like some contractors would have done. I have hired a lot of home contractors over the years and Grout Medic of N Chicago is one of the very best performing, communicating, and providing high quality tile work (which is an art) contractors I have ever engaged. Thank you for the repair and replacement of my shower floor.

I can't speak highly enough about this Team they scheduled my estimate appointment within 24 hrs as I was expecting guests to arrive before the holidays and they provided an estimate at my house, I didn't have to wait and scheduled the work to be completed within a week. I have an all marble bathroom and Harry the Technician was absolutely meticulous cleaning and grouting the shower and the floor. His attention to detail was top notch. I had The Grout Medic of Chicago come back last week to do my second bathroom and again an amazing job, I highly recommend this service and their Team Harry the Technician and Neil the owner deliver an amazing service and customer experience.

Summary: Soma Tile (Lucas) is a partner through the process and his team is comprised of skilled…read moreand courteous professionals. I would not hesitate in referring them to anyone looking for bath and tile work!! Preface: Let me start this tale with some background. This project was not an exciting "Lets update our 20 year old bathroom and make it stylish and pretty". Instead the project started due to an undetected leak, the stress that comes from random water leaking in random places, and was filled with questions and concerns. Countless others "assured" me that this was a plumbing issue or just due to some neglected maintenance on a 5 year old new-install shower - and then wanted to blast holes everywhere to "find" the leak. At the same time, I did not want to rip apart a shower to then find out it might be plumbing and now a full on repair. I felt overwhelmed in making the wrong choice and doing 2 projects chasing my tail. Lucas walked me through all the typical scenarios that he has seen, leaning on the most probably is a structural fail of the shower system and then did a methodical exploration. A couple hours later and a minimal demo, he confirmed that it was in fact not plumbing related and was def. a failure of the shower system -- and walked me through what it would take. Once his team was onsite, they were focused - creating a whole "clean room" at the entry to the bathroom. 1 day demo, 1 day water-proof, 2 days tile - all while providing the proper time for dry-out and leak testing between steps. Lucas is a perfectionist, being critical on the most minor details -- which to someone that also strives for this level, but has no idea what they are looking for, was very much appreciated. Additionally, he has instilled this value in his team - that are true craftsman with their skill. Each step of the process was walked through, discussed, and made sure we understood the task, goal, and expectations. This is why I say Lucas/Soma Tile was a true partner in this project, as it wasn't a fun project -- it was an overwhelming stressful start where Soma Tile helped take some of the burden and concerns off our shoulders and work it through with their own expertise, experience, and dedication - ensuring every step was executed with precision. Soma Tile knows their craft - Lucas is a partner, his team are craftsman. Huge Thanks to Lucas, Jesus, and Miguel -- not to forget Jose who magically appeared on the last day to leave the place spotless.

Lucas patiently reviewed design options with me and provided insightful guidance throughout the install. The attention to the smallest detail, combined with the use of a laser to ensure straight lines of tiles was impressive. No detail was overlooked! The color selection of grout was carefully coordinated with the tile. The workmanship is OUTSTANDING! The team demonstrated the same quality standards as they grouted and cleaned the tile repeatedly. Upon completion, Lucas, and his team cleaned the bathroom, and their work area. Soma tile was on time and a pleasure to work with! They truly are craftsman and take pride in their work. I would strongly recommend Lucas and his team.

I would say the sales reps are a little hit or miss. One person seemed super design focused, the other didn't seem to get my vision of "clean and modern" and suggested a couple options that were not in line with what I was showing preference for. Additionally, I felt the process to actually buy the tile is quite slow. Something to note is that just because there is tile on the sales floor, that doesn't mean it is in stock or available, sometimes the sales reps aren't even aware of it until they key in the tile. Luckily we got there before a rush of people that seemed to come after lunchtime.

Some of the tile we ordered wasn't even boxed, just bound together with plastic straps and chipped. We returned items in their original, already beaten-up boxes, so this was bogus. 4) If they say they can have items delivered, watch out. We had shower curbs delivered unprotected in the trunk of a person's car, and the majority of our $8K of supplies delivered in the open bed of a pickup truck unprotected and with items hanging out the back of the truck. You know, the ones where they show the before and after of a kitchen, bathroom, etc.? It always looks so easy on TV, and they miraculously get everything done within the hour! Real life ain't like that, folks. Every home improvement task we have attempted has taken way longer than we thought, and cost way more money than we had planned. Sure, you still save over hiring a contractor, and there is that feeling of satisfaction when all is said and done. But realistically, those HGTV shows edit out a lot of blood, sweat and tears. And cost overruns. Anyhow, I'm getting off subject. We look to save money on materials whenever we do home improvement. Plus, I try to support anybody other than the local Big Box stores. You know, the ones that seem to have a monopoly on EVERYTHING home related. (I'm talking to you Home Depot) They usually have lousy customer service, to boot.
