Summary: Soma Tile (Lucas) is a partner through the process and his team is comprised of skilled and courteous professionals. I would not hesitate in referring them to anyone looking for bath and tile work!! Preface: Let me start this tale with some background. This project was not an exciting "Lets update our 20 year old bathroom and make it stylish and pretty". Instead the project started due to an undetected leak, the stress that comes from random water leaking in random places, and was filled with questions and concerns. Countless others "assured" me that this was a plumbing issue or just due to some neglected maintenance on a 5 year old new-install shower - and then wanted to blast holes everywhere to "find" the leak. At the same time, I did not want to rip apart a shower to then find out it might be plumbing and now a full on repair. I felt overwhelmed in making the wrong choice and doing 2 projects chasing my tail. Lucas walked me through all the typical scenarios that he has seen, leaning on the most probably is a structural fail of the shower system and then did a methodical exploration. A couple hours later and a minimal demo, he confirmed that it was in fact not plumbing related and was def. a failure of the shower system -- and walked me through what it would take. Once his team was onsite, they were focused - creating a whole "clean room" at the entry to the bathroom. 1 day demo, 1 day water-proof, 2 days tile - all while providing the proper time for dry-out and leak testing between steps. Lucas is a perfectionist, being critical on the most minor details -- which to someone that also strives for this level, but has no idea what they are looking for, was very much appreciated. Additionally, he has instilled this value in his team - that are true craftsman with their skill. Each step of the process was walked through, discussed, and made sure we understood the task, goal, and expectations. This is why I say Lucas/Soma Tile was a true partner in this project, as it wasn't a fun project -- it was an overwhelming stressful start where Soma Tile helped take some of the burden and concerns off our shoulders and work it through with their own expertise, experience, and dedication - ensuring every step was executed with precision. What an amazing job Lucas and his team did on my bathroom tile! To begin the project, floors, surfaces, etc. were protected from dirt and dust that can occur during tile installation. Lucas patiently reviewed design options with me and provided insightful guidance throughout the install. The attention to the smallest detail, combined with the use of a laser to ensure straight lines of tiles was impressive. No detail was overlooked! The color selection of grout was carefully coordinated with the tile. The workmanship is OUTSTANDING! The team demonstrated the same quality standards as they grouted and cleaned the tile repeatedly. Lucas and his team are great.   The intention was to replace the kitchen floor, which ended up being more complicated than expected because of additional layers of subflooring that needed to be removed and the fact that everything in this 100+ year old building is slanted and crooked. But they spent the time to figure out how to address those issues, and you could never tell. We really needed new baseboards in the kitchen, so that got done too.   We had also been wanting to do the bathroom and, since they had availability, we jumped right in. They really went above and beyond with that project - while his focus is tile, Lucas has years of experience doing most things that a building might need. We replaced the tub with a walk-in shower and added some much needed storage, which obviously included tearing down and rebuilding a wall. We have had issues with moisture and mold, so we tiled much more of the bathroom than was tiled before, and he suggested putting in a stronger fan closer to the shower and being careful with my paint choices. He also suggested better lighting, and what a difference that made.   I'm alluding to what a lot of other people have mentioned in their comments - Lucas really takes the time to walk you through everything, give you the information that you need to make informed decisions, and make sure that you're anticipating issues and possibilities before it's too late. I learned a lot about tile (when your house is as crooked as mine, certain materials and sizes work better), about toilets (I have a 10 inch rough in...who knew?), and about shower doors (he connected us with someone who did a beautiful job). And he made sure that I considered how much room was needed to comfortably sit on a toilet, that I thought about building shelving into the shower, and that I replaced plumbing that needed to be replaced. Also, as almost everyone else has mentioned, the crew is clean. Like really, really, really clean. It wasn't just the fact that we did some major demo, and you couldn't tell once they were gone. Every single day they were here, they cleaned while they were working, and cleaned and organized everything before they headed out.   I also had a lot of fun with Lucas, Miguel, Jesus and Orlando. I work at home, so I was constantly sticking my nose in, asking questions, getting to know everyone, jumping into their lunch breaks and, let's be honest, probably slowing them down. And they were gracious enough to let me help with things that I thought I could handle (just some spackling, sanding and caulking, but I learned how to do all of that better too). All in all, it was a crazy, fun couple of weeks that left us with a couple of really gorgeous rooms in our house. read more

Lucas' work is fantastic. He is clean, meticulous, and knows what he is talking about. The only reason for 3 stars is we had an issue with our tile selection and he apparently insulted us in Spanish/Portuguese when talking to his colleague about it in front of my wife. He didnt know that my wife speaks some Spanish/Portuguese, and my wife didnt tell me until after the job was finished; otherwise I would have called him out on it. Its been over a year and I have yet to find a flaw. He's very responsive and was able to schedule things fairly quickly, especially considering the smaller size of the jobs. Lucas. What an honorable and decent person. I have never met anyone in the field of construction, home improvement, etc. who follows through with their word, whether it's with scheduling, showing up when they say they will show up, and being professional with every aspect of the job. We decided to replace the carpet in our large family room with heated floors. Because of the heating element, wood floors were a no go. We decided on tile, but we had no experience or idea what to look for when purchasing tile. Lucas helped us with every aspect of this job: where to go when purchasing the tile, answering any questions we had because of all the choices, and always being professional. Yes, I said it again. He and his assistant did a great job from beginning to end, even when a situation arose and he came back on a SUNDAY to fix the issue. Who does that? I should first mention that Lucas/Soma Tile didn't actually do the tile job at my place. However, I felt compelled to write a review since I had a really positive experience. I called Lucas and received an immediate call back. I was able to get a quote via email (sent pictures and dimensions). Everytime I had any question or request (e.g. getting references, looking at a pictures of past projects), Lucas was very quick to respond. I'm so used to slow responses and getting jerked around by contractors that I was really surprised and amazed by his professionalism. A quick look at his past projects is also very impressive. The reason I didn't go with Lucas is basically that at the very moment, he's a little booked up (a sign of likely how good he is). I originally hired them to do a back splash and ended of giving them all the bathrooms in the house including the foyer and laundry room. Their keen attention to detail was impressive. I actually did not end up using Lucas, because our tile project turned into something else, but despite this, while I was still figuring out what I needed, he was willing to look at pictures of the problem and give me his professional opinion. Regardless, we had multiple conversations over the phone during which time he gave me his thoughts. THAT in and of itself went a long way.
