Helpful in calculating trim amount and options, but poor communication and overall experience after I purchased product. Was provided free delivery because the product was a day late to their Skokie location, but then only received a part of the order so in order to avoid delays to the contractor I had to make an extra (unnecessary) trip to pick it up myself. They offered delivery again, but given that this was the second issue I felt like I couldn't rely on them to be on time. Things happen, but both times no one contacted me to inform me that there was an issue. Had a much better experience for a similar level of product and price point at Floor and Decor without the extra headache on my part. Also, maybe just bad luck on my part, but several of the items I wanted that they had in display in their showroom were out of stock with no info on lead time for ordering. read more

I was introduced to The Tile Shop by my contractor, Titan Builders, Inc, for my kitchen remodel project. It was a really neat experience to wander through out the shop and envision not just what tile I wanted, but from the models of kitchens and bathrooms, I could really begin to understand what my whole project was going to be. And I must say, the marble tiling that we selected that day is what pulls the whole kitchen together. We had previously used TTS last time we renovated our bathrooms. We recently visited 2x both on Saturday afternoons. We are redoing a few bathrooms in our home and need A LOT of tile. I would say the sales reps are a little hit or miss. One person seemed super design focused, the other didn't seem to get my vision of "clean and modern" and suggested a couple options that were not in line with what I was showing preference for. Additionally, I felt the process to actually buy the tile is quite slow. Something to note is that just because there is tile on the sales floor, that doesn't mean it is in stock or available, sometimes the sales reps aren't even aware of it until they key in the tile. i went in the tile shop thinking I wasn't going to find anything ,due to being picky. i have been looking for years for something to really express me and pop out.i walked in and as greeted by a very nice woman, Jaqueline. i told her what i was doing and what i like.after a few i did not like , she hit it !!! found my tile in 10 minutes. This sign is not true. It led me to believe that I could just wait and trade in some left over boxes of tiles that I bought this summer for another project in my house that will start soon. Employee said too much time has passed and I couldn't return them or trade them, but that they could "take the boxes off my hands" which I found to be distasteful. Manager called me later and I found it amazing that he didn't see any issue with the sign, particularly the word "ALWAYS". He said I didn't read the receipt's return policy, which is accurate: I READ THE SIGN IN THE STORE AND JUST ASSUMED THAT IT WOULD BE TRUE. I assumed that I could ALWAYS return boxes of tiles with no restocking fee because of this sign. There should be an asterisk next to ALWAYS indicating that ALWAYS doesn't actually mean always. (Or subject to 90 day return policy-or whatever). Not shopping here again. read more

Since 0 stars is not an option I will have to leave 1 Star. I have never in my life encountered a company with individuals who are so completely incompetent and do not take responsibility for their mistakes, costing my boyfriend and I time and money on our housing and delaying our ability to move in. Resulting in us having to couch surf for over a week. We came here to order tile to gut rehab our 1 and only bathroom in our house before we moved in. This was about a month or so before we were to begin construction. The girl we worked with was Emain (who either got fired or quit in the process of our tile debacle). So to start Emain told us we had to order our tile ASAP incase it was on back order, however we paid for shipping with a specific delivery date as the current occupant was not vacating the premise for a few weeks and we need the tile delivered following her departure. She told us no problem. Mistakes: 1: They delivered the tile early....apparently Eiman told us they couldn't hold the tile in the warehouse (although she never did) and upon delivery THEY BROKE THE TILE!! 2. We call and complain, and they say no problem they will have the tile replaced and it will be delivered on the date originally scheduled. That day comes and goes NO TILE DELIVERY 3. I call, Eiman is off, and SHE NEVER ORDER THE REPLACEMENT TILE THAT THEY BROKE AND NOW ITS ON BACK ORDER 4. When I asked to be refunded at least the delivery fee since they made so many mistakes, they refused and then claimed they had to pay all this money to rush order the replacement tile from out of state WHICH STILL TOOK OVER A WEEK TO BE DELIVERED. That doesn't sound like a rush order. 5. Now Emain is back at work and yells at me for taking to another person because she was off and I should only be talking to her. 6. So now we are delayed a week on our project. And they still won't provided any apologies or compensation for us. 6. Now we can finally start our project, THEY ORDERED THE WRONG AMOUNT OF TILE, EXCESSIVELY SHORT WHEN WE GAVE THEM ALL THE CORRECT MEASUREMENTS (over to compensate for any mistakes the tile guys did). 7. Again following multiple complaints we got ZERO apologizes and the workers accepted 0 responsibility for all these mistakes they made. Point of all of this is, do not work with the tile shop. I will never ever recommend them to anyone they have the worst customer service and they have no idea what they are doing. read more

I cannot thank Konrad and Lance enough for all of their help with another home remodeling project. This is now bathroom number 3 in the books (also remodeled a kitchen 3 years ago using the tile store). With all remodeling projects there are challenges and budget issues that you always contend with. Since working with this team at the tile shop those concerns go away. We actually have "a tile Guy"'! They have the best prices in the city, a great showroom with tons of stock and can often rush material from other locations to keep the project on schedule. Hard to find consistent reliability these days with home remodeling but these guys know theirs stuff and are always great to work with. read more

Tile Shop definitely has a beautiful showroom. I have done 2 bathroom renovations over the past few months and both times ordering with them, there were issues with my order. The first time, they shorted me what I ordered and I had to go down to Lincoln Park (I am closer to the Skokie store) to pick up what was missing. I figured that mistakes happen and had no problem using them again. The second time, I requested my order be sent to Skokie and when I went to pick it up, I was told it was in Lincoln Park (even though the computer there said I was picking up in Skokie). There was no attempt to rectify the situation, just out of luck. If you are on a strict timeline and want to use this store, I wouldn't count on them to have it right the first time. read more

While I appreciate he actually had a helpful point of view, it made for a number of awkward calls. Additionally, buyer be warned, you cannot return tiles after 6 months (even if you're only a few days over). Super nice gift after your contractor / tile guy takes forever to install. The staff at the Tile Shop is Great. Classie in particular really helped me. I have no criticisms and only praise for the staff. However, the stone is advertised as selling top grade natural stone. I purchased two sizes of hexagon Hampton Carrara (1" and 3"). Both have been plagued with chips and terribly uneven cuts. It has slowed our installation down dramatically. I feel that the quality control on these Rush River Stone branded tiles have been just terrible. I would not recommend anyone to purchase these. The different tile thicknesses have also been challenging to keep our floor (out of the 3 x 3 hex) fairly flat. The contractor has ended up cutting out individual tiles off the backing to fix these issues. This is just terrible. While it will look gorgeous when we are done, I regret purchasing the stone at the Tile Shop. I should have purchased it through Ann Sacks or some other more reputable dealer. read more

Excellent selection not only of tiles, but Schluter, transitions, etc.. I found some stunning glossy, gray industrial-looking floor tile and then the salesperson clued me in to the fact that the same tile pattern was available in wall tiles of a different dimension. The two look great together. When I needed additional tiles the store looked into tiles available in the same lot and had them rushed shipped -- I had them in 1.5 days. The original work required some revision and Lance, the manager, has been very patient and understanding as I return product and ensuring sufficient product is in stock to cover my bases with whichever way I decide to go with the rework. Picking up product is easy -- you can pull into a parking ramp near their back entrance (they validate parking). The people at The Tile Shop have also been helpful in providing recommendations of contractors to perform the rework. read more

After spending thousands of dollars on tile for a previous renovation project, I decided to go back to The Tile Shop, and I was extremely disappointed. It took almost 40 minutes for an employee to stop and just be able to answer a question. When I asked if they had a sample tile I was looking for, the employee never stopped to look anywhere in the store and just said "No, sorry." This was the opposite of the customer service I had experienced in the past and sent me right out the door, looking for another vendor to spend my money on home renovation projects. I am really glad that I stopped in here for a look before going with a discount tile store. For one thing, I saved about $200 bucks here from the discount tile store. I bought three rooms of tile for about $600 bucks, and no need to rummage--each choice was within my very modest budget. I worked with Konrad, who pointed me in all the right directions, even my contractor was impressed with Konrad's picks. Turnaround order time was three days. THREE DAYS. They also have classes if your a DIY kinda girl/guy. I am very impressed with the store and the great customer service that I received. This review is long overdue. I've been here many times and I've always received great service. I was in today and received help from Charlie who was awesome! He spent almost 2 hours with me when I was really indecisive about what tile I wanted for my bathroom floor and shower. He kept showing me different options and even some cool design advice. We were redoing our kitchen and fireplace facade. We were very excited to check out their selection because they have such gorgeous products. However, from the minute I walked in the door, I knew this store was not going to be fun to work with. It should have ended there, but again, I found products I really liked, so we gave them the business. If you would like to be ignored the minute you walk through the door, this is the store for you! On top of having to stalk their employees to help me, their store manager, Lance, is unprofessional and untrustworthy. We used their list of recommended vendor to find Tile By Tony. His workmanship was awful, and he was always late (sometimes by an hour) with absolutely no apology. When my husband came into the Tile Shop to show pictures of the work done by Tony this to Lance, he apologized profusely, said he would get ahold of Tony to address the situation, and he would get back to us. We, of course, never heard from Lance or Tony. When I called Lance back to follow up, he said Tony never returned his phone call, and due to the situation, they were removing Tile By Tony from their preferred vendor list. This made me happy as I didn't want this situation to happen to anyone else. Well, I walked back into the tile shop a couple months later because we were redoing one of our bathroom. I picked out the tile and asked for another vendor list. Guess who was back on the list - Tile By Tony. When I asked Lance about it, he said it was none of my business why he added him back onto the list, and that he could pick whoever he wanted to be on that list. Obviously, Lance doesn't care if his Tile Shop consumers get screwed over by his preferred vendors. We took our business to Floor and Decor instead, and let me tell you - they have WAY more selection, better prices, and excellent customer service!!!!!! read more

If I could give no stars I would! Two days ago in the afternoon I went into The Tile Shop at 1460 N. Halsted all excited, since I'm renovating my bathroom and I have a 20k budget for my walls and flooring. I had heard that this store has a nice selection of marble and custom tiles., so I decided to take off of work early that day and go work with someone to give lace an order for my bathroom project to get started. I entered the store and noticed their were three male employees in the back center area, I thought I'd look around in the front first and one of them would probably come to greet me or ask what I was looking for. After 10 minutes or so, I was still looking around and no employees to be seen. Then, I made my way around towards the back looking at items and they were all talking amongst themselves. I thought for sure someone would acknowledge that I was a customer in the store and simply ask me what I was looking for, if I needed any help, if I had any questions, etc. NOT ONE WORD FROM ANY OF THEM! It was absolutely shocking! Finally. I asked one employee if they validated parking and he said yes. I proceeded to look around more, at this time resorting to taking photos to notate what items I liked, etc. the employees still NEVER ONCE asked what I was looking for or offered any help. They were literally so busy doing nothing except talking amongst themselves, that they didn't think to ask a potential paying customer what they want to buy! Needless to say, my experience was beyond disappointing and I left with some photos of what I like and nothing purchased for my bathroom. Don't go here If you want any kind of service! We recently remodeled one of the bathrooms in our condo and the experience was top notch. Joseph was extremely helpful the first day we walked in, and we then worked with Fancy who did a great job. Lance, the manager, stepped in and helped out also. Between all three, Joseph, Fancy and Lance, we felt very attended to, and we are extremely satisfied with the service. The prices are comparable to other places we looked at, the delivery time was very quick, and they have a great showroom. We especially liked being able to buy single tiles to take home as samples. I visited the Halsted store first as this was the third tile shop I walked into that day. Having stopped at two other local competitors I was expecting an average experience and was just starting my search for tile I needed for our (2) bathroom remodels. I was immediately greeted with a warm hello and smile by Sarra! She offered me a few minutes to "look around" and approached about five minutes later. I explained to her that our entire house was under massive renovation but that we were working on getting our bathrooms done first so that we could move in. I had a fairly average timeline but wanted to get our contractor on board and motivated to get the bathrooms done efficiently. She laughed and understood exactly what I was saying. Sarra had exceptional knowledge of every product and patiently guided me through the showroom while educating me about the different natural stones, ceramic options etc. I immediately enjoyed her easy and friendly demeanor but was also so impressed by her ability to hear what I wanted while understanding my personal style and budget. My first "round" of selections I went home with the quote and my husband agreed I chose beautiful tiles but said it was beyond our budget. I sat on it and revisited the store about a week later. I told Sarra that her personalized service was the reason I came back but laughed and said we needed to pair down my selections and "get creative" because my husband had a "different" budget! She was totally understanding and here's where she truly showcased her talent... I barely sacrificed any of my original selections- instead we did get creative with things like the shower tile floor: and she also made an amazing suggestion about changing the shower wall tile to better meet our budget. These last few weeks Sarra and the entire staff at The Tile Shop have been available, accommodating, patient and totally on point! Our contractor has picked up and dropped off extra tile and always without an issue! It's been such a pleasure working with this company as I have visited other locations and every employee was accommodating knowing full well I was going to place the order with the Lincoln Park store. Went in here to pick up some glass tile for a kitchen backsplash. The store itself is great. Tons of options, easy to navigate, and everything was displayed attractively. Parking was free, and the place was easy to find. Where this place lacked for me was the service. No one approached me, asked if I needed recommendations, or was even moderately friendly. The place was seemingly empty too. Employees breezed by both myself, and another customer who was also shopping around, without even as much as a greeting. She got frustrated, and ended up chasing someone down with a question. When I picked out my tile, the woman at the customer service desk completed the ordering process, and told me it'd be about a week for my order. Five days later, I got a phone call that my tile was in, so I go in the next day to pick up my order, and again, four guys sitting at the customer service desk looking pissed off to be there, didn't acknowledge me, and just sort of staring. It was like I walked into the middle of an argument. The woman that placed my order appeared, brought out my tile, and then wheeled it out to my car. Overall, if you know what you want and can get in and out, I'd say go for it, but if you're seeking recommendations, or help of any kind, I'd say you're going to be disappointed. read more
