Having just built a house, i've had my fair share of experiences with different tradespeople - architects, builders, painters, carpenters, electricians, interiors, everyone. And i can say with no shadow of a doubt, working with Home Carpet One (Jonathan Carey in particular) comes out at the very top of my positive experience list. For background, I purchased 3 rooms of wool carpet, 2 custom-made large rugs and 3 flights of stair runners with landing carpet. Firstly, their work is unbelievable - Jonathan's guidance and knowledge was so helpful, and gets you your quote quickly and scheduled for install even faster. The installation team are easily the best I've worked with. They come prepared to do a completely custom job that's tailored exactly to your needs, right down to sewing on stair runner edging on site to make sure the colors work once the carpet is laid. They happily resized a rug (on site) for me once i realized I'd ordered it too large, and redelivered the product in 3 days. Today, they installed our stair runners (less than 2 weeks after i ordered them) and the whole way along they checked that i was happy with the look, and offered sage advice on lines and patterns that i never would have thought of. Honestly, don't waste your time going anywhere else - i wish i never bothered with the horrible salespeople i experienced over at the Mart! Great value, fabulous product, and truly excellent service. I had a terrible experience working with this company. The first red flag should have been when I showed up to appointment with my sales associate to be told he wasn't working that day. The day of my carpet installation I was told that there was a defect and they needed to get a new carpet in there. No problem. The second day I decided to wait and have them unroll it in front of me. Thankfully I did that because it was was completely the wrong color! See photos. The yellow carpet is what came, vs the taupe carpet that I ordered. They left with that carpet yet left the nails and pads on the floor. I was told it was a dye lot issue.. At that point I knew what my second carpet choice was, but could not get anyone on the phone and had to then drive to the store to speak to my associate as I needed the carpet installed asap (now 3 days out with carpet pad and nails in the floor). The third carpet install date went OK except they didn't place padding under my builtin. So a fourth install date was required. Finally, after all this, I asked my sales associate for my refund since the new carpet was cheaper. I was told that the carpet wouldn't be refunded due to the company "eating the cost" of the first carpet that was the wrong color! In the end, they did give me the refund and $40 as a "good faith" gesture lol. I'm not even very happy with the new carpet as it has a white line (not a seam) running down the middle. read more

I wish I could give more stars. I got a quote from a competitor who made my stair runner installation project sound like the most difficult, complicated, time consuming project on the planet. I ALMOST went with him because Jonathon Carey (yes, like Mariah) was so nonchalant and easy going about my project that it made me nervous. WOW, am I ever glad I trusted my gut. Jonathan was a dream to deal with and I lucked out with a cancellation so the job was done 2 days after I paid my deposit, rather than 3 weeks out. The installers were prompt, professional, and fast as lightning. The job was DONE in 90 minutes, as opposed to the several hours over two days (with days in between!!) quoted by the competitor. (September Installation) My experience with Carpet One was mostly exceptional from start to finish, guided by my salesperson, Josh G. This was my first carpet purchase, and Josh was great. He even let me know that if I wasn't in a rush to purchase carpet, which I wasn't, that I should wait for their annual sale for some more favorable pricing given what I was interested in. First huge step towards trust for me! Definitely didn't have to do that. I also appreciated Josh answering all of my research questions as we moved through this process and HomeOne's flexibility on the sales pricing commitment while I made this decision. He provided in-store samples and ordered other samples I needed to "live with" for a bit to make my final choice. The only slight hiccup was with scheduling confirmation with the warehouse, but Josh N took care of that. He was more bothered by it than I was as it was not up to their usual standards. Again, another step forward in the trust department. I appreciated his attention to the details and confirming that they would be able to keep my installation date. And then the installers and the installation went smoothly - friendly, on time and great work and clean up. They were also kind enough to work with me to put sliders under certain furniture pieces where I had not had them. In closing out everything, I worked with Liz B on receipt of my warranty information as well as securing another sample for my records since I'd discarded the one I had. She was great. Every person I encountered during my process were the ultimate professionals. And to top it off, I received a box of delicious cookies a couple of weeks ago as a thank you! Last summer, my wife and I decided to take advantage of Home Carpet One's annual sale and try our luck with another flooring purchase as we had been satisfied customers of HC1 in the past. Though we had to wait 3+ months for an install date (sale customers are sent to the back of the installation queue at HC1), we were excited about the wool carpeting we had selected for the lower level of our condo. Unfortunately, I was out of town during the installation and wasn't able to see the new carpeting for a couple of days. Much to my surprise, there was a pattern of clearly noticeable compression lines that were evenly spaced (~6-8" apart) throughout the entire roll of carpeting that was now in place. I simply assumed these would come out with wear, but I was wrong. I phoned the store to share my concern about the look of the carpeting and was visited later that week by someone from the HC1. He took some photos that he promised to share back at the store and when I asked for a timeline for follow-up, the gentleman told me that I would need to call the store for next steps. The onus should never be put on the customer for follow-up. (Customer service training would be good for this company, Example 1.) I did, in fact, have to be the one to call the store for follow-up a week later and was ultimately visited at home by the owner of the store (at this point, I was hopeful for a satisfactory outcome). The owner took a look at the carpet and decided to send a carpet cleaning company out to steam clean this brand new carpet in the hopes that the compression lines would be lifted. Seemed like an awful stretch to me, but it happened. Unfortunately, those efforts were fruitless. The next step in this process was to have an independent carpet expert visit our home to evaluate the carpet that had been installed. Within seconds, the independent evaluator could tell it was "manufacturer's defective carpeting" that was installed across approximately 2,000 sqft of our home. He said the carpet should have never been laid. This meant the defective carpeting would have to be pulled so that new carpeting could be installed. Very disappointing. And yet the level of disappointment I would feel would only increase. I waited two weeks from the day the evaluator came to my home before I reached out to HC1 to learn of next steps. Until then, I had never been contacted by HC1 to discuss the evaluator's findings (did they think I would simply go away?!?). When I finally got the store manager on the phone, he shared with me that they would be out to replace the defective carpet. When I asked if there was any remedy in mind for the disruption and inconvenience caused by new carpet installation, the fine young man reminded me that HC1 would be picking up the tab for the installation so that I (the customer) wouldn't have to pay it (as this isn't something the manufacturer covers). Why should I feel grateful for not having to pay install fees associated with defective carpeting being replaced? (Customer service training would be good for this company, Example 2.) I just spent 2.5 hours moving all of the smaller items, toys, boxes, etc. from our lower level rooms to make the installation easier for the next set of carpet layers to visit for this job. You'd think HC1 would show some level of respect for our time as we'll have to spend another 2.5 hours moving things back in place after this second disruption. Throughout this experience, I was floored by HC1's nonchalant attitude about what had happened and a clear lack of empathy (until I nearly had to beg for it via an email to "manager") for what had transpired. Home Carpet One's disregard to detail in installing clearly defective carpeting and disinterest for a strong, "let's do what it takes to keep this family as a customer" response drove me to write this review. Please exercise caution when working with this company. They appear to place profit over customer service training and appropriate customer response. They may also benefit from the installation of manufacturer's defective carpet. Beware. read more

Since I'm a first time homeowner I've never actually bought carpet before, but there's a first time for everything! I asked for a few carpet store suggestions and the response was unanimous: Home Carpet One! And at least 2 people told me to work with Mark, a sales associate at Home Carpet One. And fortunately Mark knows his stuff when it comes to carpets because my husband and I are clueless in that department. Mark: "Do you want plush carpet?" Us: "We dunno" Mark: "How much do you want to spend per sq ft?" Us: "We dunno" Mark: "What color carpet do you want?" Us: "We dunno" You get the point. Us= clueless. After looking at about 50 different carpet samples we finally settled on one that looked similar to what we have in our current apartment, which we we've been happy with. As for the color we decided to go with the same color as our light haired dog....to cut down on vacuuming time! The price was a little more than I expected, but Mark was nice enough to let us know about an upcoming sale so we did get some sort of discount. We ended up carpeting 4 rooms (3 bedrooms and a 200 sq ft storage closet) for approximately $3500. Not sure if that's good, but if it's not I don't want to know because we already paid it (until we carpet again in about 4-5 years at least). Besides that Mark sent someone to our place measure the carpet and the guy was on time (love that!) and done within a few minutes (love that too!). The 3 carpet guys who did the job were also right on time (yay!) and it took them about 6 hours....2 of them were named Orlando and I can't remember the other guy's name, but they were all really sweet! They even worked around my special request to put a cable cord under the carpet since we want to put our TV on the other side of the bedroom. The carpet feels lovely, looks lovely (it's amazing how new carpet can make a place look so much nicer), and is ready for the pupster to shed all over it! read more

Review is only for rugs, not carpet: They have a really large showroom for carpets and different types of flooring, so I'd definitely begin your search here. They kind of leave you to browse - which can be good or bad depending on your style. I was here only for an area rug and they had just a few options available. They seemed to offer customized option more than catalog option. I think it could be because carpets is what they do well and cutting an area rug from a carpet may be easier for them. read more

During the installation we encountered some "sins" of past installation and we had to deal with strict covid construction rules that nearly make it impossible to do work. We have gotten carpet from Mark Gustin at Home Carpet One on three different occasions, and on each one, Mark treated us like we are his favorite people in the whole world. He listens carefully to what we need and then points us in the right direction. He doesn't try to upsell us on something we don't need or can't afford. He just does his job as salesman and gets us the product we need at a price we can afford. For our most recent project carpeting our newly remodeled basement, Mark suggested a durable carpet that can withstand troves of teenagers tromping down the stairs. He wisely suggested a thicker pad to give us greater cushion on top of the hard concrete floor. He gave us the "Coulter Family Discount" and scheduled the measurement and install efficiently without a lot of delay or runaround. And can I say a word about the installers? Best in the business. They wrapped the stairs going down to the basement so tightly they hum! The two guys were neat and clean, worked fast and got the job done right. They even did us a favor and did a small repair job on a carpet in another part of the house. Grateful. Home Carpet One and Mark Gustin are pros. Don't screw around with Home Depot and that crap. I just had carpeting installed in my apartment and was Extremely pleased with Home Carpet One. We visited the showroom a few times and worked with Mark who was very helpful and accommodating and we were able to choose carpeting with his assistance within our budget as well as to our liking! Mark was very patient and always had good suggestions and answers to our questions. I had to reschedule the install twice due to other work delays in my apartment and they were always accommodating. The installation was unbelievably great!! I cannot say enough about the two guys who did the install. Jesus and his associate ( sorry don't have his name) were amazing. I used Home Carpet One to buy and install stair runners for our three hardwood staircases. The process couldn't have been better! I reached out via their website and talked to someone on the phone regarding what I was looking for. They sent someone out to take measurements and bring samples that they thought we would like, and then followed up with a free quote. Listened to what I wanted, answered every question, and was Uber patient with all the hoops my condo building required. The install went without a hitch, they moved all my furniture, they carpet looks great, and they expertly cleaned up after themselves Fast forward a year, and I decide it's time to rip up the ugly tile in my entry way and kitchen. We head back to home carpet one, and again Julia did an amazing job. She remembered what carpet we bought a year ago, and helped us pick out new vinyl. We are on day 2 of three, and it looks amazing. I live in California and was trying to help my son get the flooring installed in his Chicago high rise apt. before he moved in. I realize that there is a high demand for remodeling projects right now but to be rushed, pointed to displays to thumb through when I was explicit about what I was looking for and lack of interest was surprising given there were 2 other people in the store at the time and purposely went there off hours so I could get some advice. Left immediately headed to Floor and Decor on Addison not only did I get immediate service from a great young man, I left with samples for exactly I was looking for at a price point that only speaks to the considerable mark up at Carpet One and Floor and Decor has ample parking. A waste of my time at Carpet One, got everything I needed within 30 minutes at Floor and Decor. You are not paying for better service at Carpet One quite the opposite. read more

My fiance and I are currently re-doing both of the bathrooms in our town home down the street and decided to spend a little more on tile to support a local business vs. going to a major retailer. Initially the service was relatively good and they were easy to work with. And, after being assured that what we were ordering was going to be in stock (their tag-line is "in stock, in style, Chicago...), we decided to buy all our tile here. We purposely ordered just enough, after being told we could come back and order more as we needed to. We ended up making some changes to the layout of our master shower, and in turn, needed more flooring. What we found out was that coincidentally the floor that we ordered was never stocked and would need to be shipped. We also realized that the shipment, each time, was extremely expensive, and also is delaying our contractors. We have now paid upwards of $100 in shipping fees and, when asking if we could return just this part of the order to allow our team to continue working, were told no it was not returnable. They have been extremely rude to both myself and my fiance, and while we try to be understanding, I really don't appreciate the complete lack of understanding and service. We are going to try and return as much of the in stock product as we can and take our business elsewhere. Sad that certain small business' give a bad reputation to other stores. read more

The good: *Good tile selection, including in-stock tile *When you go into the store, they are usually friendly and helpful *Prices are better than many places, not as good as others. You won't get ripped off, but you might be able to find a better price somewhere else. The bad: *MOST of the folks I've dealt with were friendly and helpful, but some just aren't. They don't answer emailed questions *When there was a delay to getting tile at the store, no one called to tell me, so I showed up and then they treated me like I was the idiot for picking it up when I should have known it wasn't there despite being told it would be. I understand the reasons for the delay - that's not my issue -the utter lack of communication combined with being treated like the idiot was my issue. *** Overall, it all worked out fine. I love the tile, didn't see it too many other places, the places I did see it online would have been more expensive if shipping was added in (less per square foot, so that's why I say - check prices). I would shop here again despite hiccups. But I do think they can do better by customers if they answered questions emailed to them and if they kept customers notified of delays. read more

Yes, Home Carpet One has a huge selection and yes, you're bound to find exactly what you're looking for. But the service mentality is abysmal. We needed to act quickly to recarpet our downstairs after a sump pump failure. I had to call and leave messages three times before I had the courtesy of a call back; I was told that the store was "overwhelmed" because of a (pardon the pun) flood of inquiries following a Chicago weather event. We finally chose a carpet we liked, went to the store to get the samples -- only to find that they had misplaced the sample. It took about four days for them to get another one in. Then the fun really began. They came to install the carpet -- in all fairness, they did so nicely and in record time with a very professional staff -- but their order didn't show that we had wanted baseboards. We indicated we wanted baseboards the first time we spoke with them, and wouldn't that make common sense? It took another week for them to arrange for someone to come out and install the baseboards. That was scheduled last Friday and guess what -- they were "overwhelmed" and had to postpone until Tuesday. We insisted on Monday (we both had work commitments on Tuesday) and lo and behold, on Monday they called and said they couldn't come 'til THURSDAY! I can't wait to hear what the excuse is on Thursday. Two months after our weather event, we are still waiting to unpack our boxes, thanks to Home Carpet One's very UN-customer-focused service. read more
