Was in the market for Persian rugs to replace three I currently have. Went in looking for rugs of three different sizes to replace current ones that are a bit worn. I was assisted by two men, who insisted that central Asian rugs were the most popular (perhaps so, if one isn't willing to spend $$$ on a Persian rug). However, I asked only to see their finest rugs (Persian Isfahan, Tabriz, or Qum origins), as all the rugs in my home are traditional/fine Persian rugs. After getting the run-around for 25min, the men finally conceded that they have mostly central Asian and Eastern rugs, which I did not wish for. If you're interested in Far Eastern rugs, this store has plenty. There were only two Persian rugs that they had to show: a 12' x 10' and a 14' runner, both too small and humdrum. Went to Isberian immediately after, and found a trove of fine and traditional Persian rugs for my home. While I didn't find what I was looking for at Caspian, they do have a vast variety of rugs at reasonable prices. read more

I brought my Silk rug to Caspian, and then had to send it to another rug specialist to fix the damage caused by Caspian. I originally brought it to Caspian because of a small old dog urine stain, but mainly for an overall cleaning. I was advised by Lazar, that he felt that he could remove 85% of the stain, which I was perfectly content with, and paid a whopping $870 for. When I got home, I unrolled the rug and was surprised by how wet the rug felt and there was a distinct moldy odor. The whites in my silk rug, were now all yellowed, and even half of the fringe, as you can see in the photo, was yellowed. The yellowing is entirely due to Caspian, and not any dog stains. According to the professional that I have had to hire to fix the rug, Caspian has no business cleaning Oriental rugs. "The soap that was used contained oils that when not rinsed properly, discolored the whites of my rug." "A brush was used to clean the rug, damaging the rug fibers". If you care for your rugs, do not bring them to Caspian for cleaning! read more

In response to Lazar's comment, the cleaning company I used - which he blames for the issue - is the one HE recommended when I purchased the rug! He said they were "the best" so we used them both for pre-treating the rug at his recommendation (a few hundred dollars) and to assess the stain. I already outlined that situation in my first review. Lazar did NOT try to help the situation, unless "helping" is suggesting options involving pouring $600+ more dollars and weeks into a new, stained rug, with no guarantees on the outcome. Was told the stain *may* come out (the likelihood of which changed depending on when I asked) or be somewhat improved. Please do not believe his commentary; I had multiple rug specialists come out and look at the stain before determining the rug was rendered useless. None of them blamed the cleaners, which would've been easy as it's their competition. They all said the issue was with the rug fibers and that they never would have recommended or sold that rug without strong warnings against it, given that it would be in a moderate+ traffic area with a pet. There are far more ethical owners that deserve the business for high-ticket items like this... I've had much better experiences at Reza's, Rita, and Oscar Isberian, to name a few. read more

Shared my desires and also the color-scheme of my room and furniture and the staff went to work sharing examples of what could work. I tried multiple rugs and the staff was gracious and patient and pulled down whatever I wanted to see. Lazar is an amazing professional that has been in the business 30 years and did a great job asking questions and listening to my responses to help me through the selection process. I went to here to have my Oriental Rug dry cleaned. They did an amazing job, with the rug coming out looking brand new afterwards. They even got out a candle wax stain. The service was excellent. They were willing to negotiate a fair price, got the rug done ahead of schedule (was quoted a week, but it was done in 4 days), and even followed up with me later to make sure the rug looked good in my home. Will definitely consider going here again to buy or sell a rug, or if I ever need another one cleaned! read more

We purchased a beautiful family-room rug from Caspian about two months ago. We left town and my dog urinated on the rug, and then the house-sitter tried cleaning it with a chemical solution. A bad decision. It seemed that the rug would never look the same. We called Caspian and they arranged to pick it, clean it, then treat it. I still thought we would see the stain, but hoped for the best. I am very happy to report that it's as perfect as the day we bought it. I brought two of my hand loomed rugs in for cleaning and they did a beautiful job - the colors are bright again and there was no issue with the colors bleeding because they used the dry clean method. Not only had they not ever been cleaned professionally but I have 2 cats that leave a lot of hair behind and I didn't see a single hair when I picked them up. I am very pleased with the service I received from Caspian Oriental Rugs. i worked directly with Kamil Michalowski and he was great. I took them a fairly large (8x11) modern wool rug that had to be "deep" cleaned by hand and spot cleaned. I kid you not I was very concerned if this rug would ever come clean. Caspian did an outstanding job. While there are still some stains on the rug, what I dropped off vs. what I got back is 100% better. We lived for many years in places where cleaning and repair were difficult to find--during which, a parade of cats and dogs ranged freely--so by the time we moved to Chicago the rugs had holes and tears along with the usual problems. Caspian did a wonderful job. We took in two rugs, and Lazar recognized their patterns and quality before we'd even unrolled them. The price was fair for fine professional work: we were told exactly what work was involved in repair or restoration, and offered several options. The repair and cleaning were done quickly--in the midst of the trouble in that neighborhood, remember--and afterward Lazar had to show us where the holes and rips had been. The whole experience felt considerate and gracious. We have several more rugs that need work, and we'll happily go back to Caspian soon. read more

I purchased a wool rug in Morocco and needed to have it cleaned. It's so authentic that it was actually filled with desert sand! Anyway, after reading the reviews here I decided to use Caspian. They are not familiar with Moroccan rugs. One of the workers turned up his nose at the rug (a hand-woven Beni Ourain rug from the High Atlas Mountains). He complained that it was "so dirty and looked used." I said that's why I brought it here to have it cleaned. He admitted they only carry rugs from India and they're not familiar with Moroccan rugs with plush pile. Bottom line, they did a good job cleaning it. We have used Caspian to clean and maintain our oriental rugs for years, but this time they went above and beyond our usual high expectations. We wanted to have two rugs cleaned and repaired in time for the holidays but at the last minute we had to push back pick up because of an emergency out of town. They cheerfully rescheduled and we just assumed that the delay would mean that the rugs would not be done before Christmas given the extensiveness of the necessary repairs. So imagine our surprise when they call us four days later to say the work was done, the rugs were clean and they would be able to deliver them the following day -- a Sunday! We never said anything about needing the rugs back in time for Christmas, they just assumed, and we later learned that their crew worked a 24 hour shift to get them back to us for Christmas Eve. read more

great place lazaar really helped us out of a jam, we had a washing machine hose come undone and soak our fancy persian rugs. he had them all cleaned at a lower price than the first place we called by 150.00 bucks. he's been in the business forever and knew our rug well... an early sarouk. they do appraisals, repairs and cleanings. they will also schedule pick up but because ours were soaked he got em in for treatment right away. great guy great rug shop! read more

Buyer Beware! There is an advertised return policy. IT IS A LIE. I purchased a carpet for about $1000. I realized carpets of equal or superior quality were being sold online for a fifth or tenth the price. Try ebay, or just googling persian rugs before you buy. Obvious and painful lesson. His new carpets are from Afganistan, real Persian rugs can be found for far, far less. Discovering this, I tried to return the rug I bought from him. Lazar would not let me. "Duuuuude, we cannot do that" were his exact words. Exchange only, as a favor, he told me. Because he wanted to make sure I was happy. Hmmm. Perhaps he could have tried honoring his advertised policy. The flip side is that if you want to pay a premium of several thousand percent and deal with a less than honest person, he has some nice antiques, in that giant store devoid of customers. read more

The folks here at Caspian are amazing. A few months ago my wife alerted me that our dog had urinated on a very nice (and very expensive) Nain that I'd purchased overseas. (She did so smugly, as she'd warned me that the dog might do that, but I had misplaced my trust in the mutt.) Unfortunately, I was about to go out of town on a business trip and was unable to take care of it right away. As soon as I got back into town several days later, the first thing I did was take it to Caspian, in fear that the bright yellow stain on my beautiful light cream Nain would be a permanent fixture. The rug was ready for pick up a week later as promised, and when Kamil showed me the result, I was amazed! I couldn't even find the spot.... it was completely gone! These guys know their stuff, and if you need your rug cleaned or a spot removed, they can get the job done. I've got a Tabriz that I'll bring them next for cleaning, and who knows... with their awesome selection of rugs, I may walk out with another piece for my collection.
