The inside was extremely hot with flies everywhere with all doors/window open. Great views, but not an ideal place if you wanna go with more than 4 people. Really loved the beautiful outdoor seating and view! We came for dinner and drinks, and they truly have so many fun and yummy drink options! We all tried a basket and the price was a bit high for the little food that we got. I was a bit surprised to only get a small screwer of shrimp and grouper. If it was all about the food I'd give it 5 stars. But it was the rest of the stuff I took away a star for. Between the three of us we had shrimp, mahi and crab cakes. They were all excellent. The only issue for us was we could have liked a little less salt/seasoning. But that's nitpicking because as I said, they were excellent. They came with fries and Cole slaw. I'm not a big waffle fry guy but these were good. The coleslaw was good as well, just not enough of it. It came in one of those little plastic cups. Prices for this day and age we are in were reasonable. There was plenty of food for the amount charged. The location is a bit sketchy driving in but the reward is the view. Amazing. Parking was very scarce however. As is the seating. There isn't much. Your goal should be an outside seat for the view. Inside seemed very cramped and noisy. Luckily we were able to get outside after sitting inside for a while. But since there are so few seats and everyone wants outside, if you are sitting out there you'll have to try and ignore the hoverers drooling for your seat it can be a bit awkward. The last negative was the wait for food. It was busy so kinda understandable but still longer than I'd expect. You order at the counter and they bring it to your table. Be sure to ask for anything in that initial interaction because if you don't you might not see them again. Overall we really liked it and will most likely be back. read more

My Wife and I have been going to the Grouper Shack for a long time! We ate there last night and ordered Fried Clams which were so over cooked! We asked and were told they are cooked medium, Not! The last few times it has not been the same! The Service, Food and Appearance has gone down Hill Sadly! The Rest Rooms Doors have a Great Deal of Black on the White Doors, and looks Horrific! New, trendy seafood joint in StA. Lots of choices in seafood and it all seemed fresh and good according to my group. Basic beer on tap (not a bad thing), lots of tropical and boat drinks as well. We had the the combos- grouper & shrimp and trigger and grouper and we were all very pleased with our meals. If we had any complaints it would be be that the smoked fish app came out with the meal instead of first, we had to go and search out condiments (tartar sauce & ranch) and the waffle fries...ehh, could've been a few more per basket. To be fair it was largely based on customer participation, for lack of a better word, kinda like dining at a hybrid fast food place where you order and the food is delivered to your table. You order in a line at the front, make your drinks, get a buzzer and wait to have your food delivered to you table and that's it. The best part is that the fish is fresh and good and the lack of server to table interaction and service isn't part of the menu which makes it different but that's the model. So it is very casual, very laid back and if you want something, you're likely gonna have to look for it yourself by design. read more

We were greeted at the counter by a friendly employee who was knowledgeable about the menu and answered all our questions. I'd been wanting fresh fish so I got the Red Fish fresh catch. The fish was delicious! Exactly what I was looking for. My mom was so happy with her fries that she got a second order. Note that if you upgrade your sides ($2 each) it's a bigger portion than the fries and coleslaw the baskets come with. All the employees were friendly, including the food runners and manager. It was too cold to eat outside and the indoor seating was a bit limited, so I would get there early. I will definitely be back to try more fresh fish. **Though you order at the counter and not the table, the employees are all paid tip wage so keep that in mind when tipping. read more

This is one of those "new Age" dining spots. You are expected to tip when you order. Paying for a meal at their prices, before it is served is insulting. And they want a gratuity to boot. For what. I repeat, It's insulting! Not only that, you must select a package drink at the order counter (can, bottle, jug, or paper cup to tote your own water). Oh, and you will be dining on paper plates with " table wear" to match. No water or wait staff for refilled tea, an old southern dining custom. If you can stand the paper, plastic and lack of table service, the fish is good to excellent. The dining area is scenic, pleasant and open to the surrounds. (roof over but open to rain, wind and heat, even if the shade holds). I've been there twice hoping the "new age" would season with a little maturity. I'll say this, they are consistent, as is the dining fare. In fairness, there is unexplainably good service at the limited bar seating. (An old fashioned was however, a science project. The barkeep thought "muddled fruit was something found in the purveyors entryway, after a spill)! If they need a couple of bucks more than counter price, to address reusable table wear, it would be worth it for a real plate (not paper, or plastic) silver and glass wear and many diners, not locked into the Arches, tip more than traditional rates for well appointed service. Went here on a suggestion from a Facebook page. What a great suggestion!! Went at lunchtime. Had the blackened grouper basket. Fish was so fresh, the waffle fries were perfect and the Cole slaw was great. Had a margarita and a Paloma and both were made well. Highly recommend taking the time to check it out. read more

Not with this restaurant. 1st of the 2 pounds didn't crack. Had to tear to open. 2nd I was able to crack. Oddly the butter was slightly warm. Some of the legs had almost no meat inside the leg. Very disappointing. Best time is before or after12-2pm. Difficulty getting seated. You don't have a server like typical restaurant. The downside was being next to the kitchen door. First time to Grouper shack. Sat at the bar. 2 bartenders. Girl in pink ( Patricia?) shirt with black hair not to friendly. Honestly, both bartenders need to maybe find new jobs. They seemed like everyone was bothering them. Atmosphere was beautiful. Food, crab legs and royal red shrimp were amazing but the seafood chowder was like someone dumped the salt shaker in it. We got our order to go at a busy time, so we were happy to wait. The place was packed, people were getting feisty over seating. We did wait about 30 mins but it was fantastic. Ordered a grouper basket and a shrimp basket, both grilled, and a garden salad. The cocktail sauce is perfect, the shrimp was amazing, and the grouper was delicious. Then, you have to get your own plastic utensils from a dispenser in the wall. Want a drink from the bar, you have to their to order it- no table service whatsoever. To top it off, the staff has an attitude about explaining the hoops you have to jump through to order for and drinks to unsuspecting first time "customers". This place better wake up, and look around at their competitors' higher level of service and quality, or they'll soon be gone. Our party of four came in for dinner on a cool Sunday evening after golf. This was our first visit. The crowd was starting to build but the ordering process was very efficient. After finding a booth inside we enjoyed views of the water while we waited for our food to be presented. Everything we had on this visit was very good. I had the Lobster Roll which was a pound of fresh lobster meat on the toasted bun. I lived three years in central Maine that offer plenty of authentic lobster rolls to try. The Lobster roll here at Grouper was fantastic!!! Just as good if not better than lobster rolls in Maine. The bun was perfectly toasted and the meat was a perfect temperature. It was totally worth the market price of $39 dollars. The beautiful views on their outdoor covered patio overlooking the dock and the San Sebastián River added to the wonderful ambience.
