Popped in to have breakfast with my some before a busy day of running around. It was a slightly cooler than usual day so everyone seemed to be out. Love seeing pleasant, smiling faces behind the counter. Kudos to people who enjoy their job and make customer service a priority. I was looking for a spot to do laptop work in Larchmont so I came here, and there was outdoor seating with lots of other people also working so that was very nice. I ordered the Horchata latte and it was delicious and got the job done. Servers were nice. However, they're open until 5PM but around 4-4:15 they started cleaning out all the tables and chairs outside even though there were some people sitting around and inside, which made me feel a bit pressured to leave early. I've been meaning to try this place for a while and I'm so glad I did! Groundwork Coffee is a cute neighborhood coffee shop and study spot, serving up delicious lunches, breakfast and coffee to-go. Known for their cold brews, I got their Horchata Cold Brew. My two favorite things combined into one and I loved it! It was sweet, creamy, and cinnamon-y. The staff was super kind and quick! After spending $30 in drinks, in addition to tipping, I'm disappointed to say I regret shopping here and don't encourage anyone to choose this particular place with the many other coffee shops there are to choose from in this city. I don't appreciate employees rolling their eyes at me, rushing people through their orders, or generally acting like I'm bothering them while trying to order. I don't expect every barista to be a raging ball of sunshine, but I think managing to not be dismissive and exasperated with customers is a pretty reasonable bar to expect people to reach. Plus, aggressively putting away tables and chairs an hour before you close is kind of wild in my opinion. Doing so in a manner that is loud and abrasive enough to startle guests, and then continuing to do so (I'm assuming to encourage people to get out) is sort of the nail in the coffin. I don't know if the employees need to be paid more, are overworked and need more breaks, or if they're instructed to give off the vibe of "I really would like to be anywhere but here"--either way, it's not for me. Decent amount of places to sit (before the employees decide to remove all the seating because they are ready to go), but the music is absurdly loud, so it's a bit hard to hear anything (including your drink being called--and they couldn't care less if you heard them or not). Drinks were fine, though certainly not worth the price, which I suppose has become the norm for coffee shops like this anyway. Nothing to write home about. read more

I'll tell you what, I've been having the most productive day thus far thanks to my morning fuel from Groundwork Coffee in Larchmont Village. I love a cold brew and they had an option to add organic cordyceps mushroom extract for an additional three bucks. Sounded mushroom magical to me so why not give it a try for a few extra dollares. I don't know if it's witchcraft, a placebo effect or just a straight up super food doing it's job - but holy goodness! "The Last of Us" is spreading fake news about this mushroom - I am most definitely not sitting here writing this review in zombie form. The cordycep mushroom is said to provide energy, endurance, and stamina for the entire day and it has surely done all of that for me today. Thanks to Groundwork Coffee for introducing me to this. I'll be ordering this coffee from them all the time now! It helps that the coffee itself has good flavor, as well. I absolutely love how many cold brew options they have. I much prefer a cold brew to hot so love that I can get regular (or add in this mushroom extract), an horchata cold brew, a Viet cold brew and a nitro cold brew. So many wins all around and all were delish. With my energy boosts this morning, I also had their Daybreaker sandwich for $9.25. Local fried eggs, bacon, cheese, hot sauce and english muffin made up this sandwich for me (I left off the kale & tomato). I have to say that I needed to add *something* for a little juiciness to it. That ended up being a garlic aioli I had at home and it made the sandwich beyond amazing. Little tweak to bring this sammy to perfection. The amount of kale they put on it was funny. And it wasn't worth $9. The avocado toast was even worse omg. Never in my life have I seen less avocado on an avocado toast. Okey dokey- i got the vegan breakfast burrito (delivery) this morning and I thought it was very good! It was large and tasty. Here's why I'm giving three stars- There was a receipt on the bag from the restaurant and the prices are much higher on DoorDash (and Uber Eats!) than they are in the store. No, I'm not talking about the already crazy fees these delivery apps charge... I'm talking about the actual price of the items. How greedy can you be!? The burrito was FOUR DOLLARS MORE - once again remember I'm not even talking about any fees- and the TEENY thing of hot sauce was a dollar and thirty cents.... Also, the hot sauce is not hot at all. I was in the mood for hot sauce and never even opened the additional one I got. I'm going to have to keep an eye on these restaurants bc I know some others do the same thing. I took my dog for a walk in the Larchmont area and happened to walk by this Groundwork Coffee shop. I'm a cold brew black, no sugar kind of coffee drinker. I was somehow talked into trying the pumpkin cold brew coffee. Pumpkin Cold Brew Coffee: 2 stars. I did not finish the drink. The pumpkin flavor of the cold brew itself was quite good, but that's the only good thing I can say about this drink. I am not a big latte drinker, however I know how to make a latte. I think the pumpkin cold brew had way too much milk as my coffee was very pale in color. I'm not sure why most places in the United States like to add extra milk in their coffee beverages. I'm glad I tried this beverage as it serves as a reminder for me to stick to what I know and love. Ham and Cheese Croissant: 4 stars Good Croissant. It would be better if this was served warm, and if they used a separate tong to scoop up the savory pastries and the sweet pastries. I like the matcha and some of their plant milks are house-made which is a big plus. Big minus is that the staff consistently starts cleaning up around 3:30 for a 5pm closing. By 4pm, tables are shoved together and there's continuous clanging banging mopping sweeping whether you sit inside or out. Super inhospitable. I hear people looking in and saying 'looks closed'. This has become one of my go to coffee joints in the neighborhood. Besides offering the types of coffees you see in chains, this is one of the few places I know of that offers Vietnamese coffee. COVID19 Measures: Groundwork is now largely operating as a takeout business which I think is a smart thing to do given the recent uptick in Covid cases. Staff also wear masks while serving customers. Overall, I feel very safe coming here. Coffee: Groundwork offers a variety of coffees, but I almost always order an iced coffee. I wouldn't say their coffee is out of this world, but it's definitely good enough to keep me coming. Staff: The staff I have met are all friendly, personable people. Came here to pick up my order from To Good To Go and purchase an Americano. The cashier claimed they never received my order and had no pastries left to give me. While I was waiting for her to double check I asked about ordering a coffee and was told they were only offering Cold Brew. I generally love Groundwork, but my experience today at this location left a bad taste in my mouth, and I think I will skip coming back here next time I want coffee on Larchmont. I ordered breakfast tacos and a chai tea latte on the app and came to pick it up. I waited 20+ minutes for my tacos (15 minutes past the time the app said they would be ready), and then I asked someone who came out of the kitchen if they could check on my order. They came back out with it 5 minutes later. I then went up to the counter to ask the girl with curly brown hair for a side of spicy mayo that comes on the tacos. She stared blankly at me and all she said was "we don't have spicy mayo". I corrected myself and said "oh, then whatever the spicy sauce is on that's the tacos. She responded "it's chipotle mayo and it's already on the tacos". I was a bit surprised at her curt, dismissive attitude, but I still wanted the sauce so I asked again for a side of it. All she responded with was "we're going to charge you for it", which once again surprised me as it was yet another very unfriendly response to continue the already unpleasant interaction. I said, that's fine she said "Ok. Go over to the register" I paid $1.50 for the side of mayo and then she took about 5 minutes before she went to the back brought it out to me. My chai latte was grainy and barley tasted of chai, which was a disappointment because I normally love their chai lattes, and the tacos themselves were underwhelming this time since they were basically all potato, but I probably would have been back again if I hadn't had such an unwelcoming, unpleasant experience with the cashier. Hopefully the manager can speak with her and explain the importance of patience, kindness and customer service, so that no one else has to feel pushed away and disrespected by her negative attitude in the future. read more

Sad that they messed up my Iced Beehive Matcha Latte by giving me a regular iced matcha latte without any honey. This is my absolute favorite from here (I normally get it from the NoHo location or at the Grove) so it makes me pretty sad that I paid $7.50 for a regular iced matcha latte. Also, I'm all for saving the environment and not using plastic straws, but at least serve the coffee with a paper straw friendly lids so that the paper straw doesn't break less than half way through finishing the coffee. COVID-19 concern: The area to place an order is literally only big enough for ONE CUSTOMER AT A TIME. There's no way people can maintain 6 feet social distancing when there more than one customer in there. I clearly did not see that being enforced by any of the workers. Ok, yes, I really like this place. I have been familiar with Groundwork Coffee for years now and the one I often frequent is the stand at the Grove. This is the first time in years from stepping into the Hollywood location, that I walked into a brick and mortar spot. The few times I have been there, the staff was just amazing. Happy, really down-to-earth and answered any of my questions. Their pastries are made locally in Venice and they get a shipment daily. Croissants were so delicious and the pastries rival any of the pastries that are served I other nearby coffee shops. Their cold brew is so smooth and delicious! Low acid and to me tastes naturally sweet. I don't need to add any creamer or sugar! I have sat in a few times and I love the vibe and ambiance of this coffee shop. Although they are a chain, they are a local company but still has that rustic, low key but modern vibe. There are lots of seating, many of which are communal but there is also ample room and light so you don't feel closed in. Perfect shop to sit and read or have a nice conversation with friends. Gave one of their matcha drinks a try and it was severely disappointing. It was essentially a full cup of ice with almond milk. I couldn't determine whether there was even a glimmer of matcha or cinnamon like the menu suggested, so I was confused why I ordered a cup of almond milk for $10, not including tip. When I asked the cashier if it was possible to add a bit more matcha, she said I would have to pay extra and that this is the amount of matcha that the recipe calls for. I can't even surmise how a recipe marketed as a "matcha" product would barely have enough matcha powder in it to shade it green -- the drink was all white with little specks of green. Even if the recipe "calls" for an 'X' amount of matcha, the barista should have done her due diligence to make the drink right. Other coffee shops let you know that if you aren't satisfied with your drink, then they will make adjustments to make you happy. This didn't happen at all. Yet I'm not sure why there are so many people here content with subpar service and half-baked drinks. I wouldn't come back here again. read more
