Perfect pear cider

As a local, I am beyond thrilled to have found a new place with an innovative menu and a warm atmosphere where the owners remembered me and my friends are so happy they are already planning a return. The Perogi are to die for and the pear cider is my new favorite. Just thrilled they are here!!!

The service at Cafe Rustica is outstanding. We had a waiter who took our orders, another one serving our food, and a third pouring water. All were very friendly and professional. I ordered the chicken apple sausage dish I loved so much last time. Others in the party ordered chicken, pinto bean soup, and I think the salmon. Everyone enjoyed their food. My sister surprised me with a small birthday cake she had purchased earlier from a bakery. The waiter brought us small plates and forks and we all had a piece.

Roman took amazing care of us, efficient and friendly and making sure our plates weren't empty for long. Made great recommendations on the menu. Food was incredible, all seems to be homemade/from scratch, and had great flavors. Grilled shrimp skewers, beet salad, butter lettuce salad, lentil soup, vegetarian pizza, and passion fruit sorbet, finished with a decaf americano... would order it all again in a heartbeat! Memorably good spot for us!

Thankfully, the restaurant is very dog-friendly, and we were able to dine with our little dog in the lounge/bar area. The food was absolutely delicious and deserves five stars. We started with almonds, olives, and rustic bread, then enjoyed the harvest soup, halibut tacos, "Spa" salad with halibut, Caesar salad with achote prawns, and Bernardus burger with fries. Everything was excellent--high praise to the chef and kitchen team! We had two signature cocktails and two mocktails. All delicious. Wait staff service was mixed. Our first server and the person who sat us both seemed a bit ingenuine. The waiter/bar tender didn't refill our waters, though the manager kindly stepped in and did so. Our final server was warm and attentive, making sure our Americanos were hot and they looked after us through dessert. Since we visited at 2 p.m., the odd hour and perhaps shift change to dinner wait staff may have contributed to the inconsistency. Overall, a wonderful meal, with room for improvement in communication and service.

Beautiful Ambience and Setting…read more Decent Service. Our server was a nice guy and helped with the menu selection. Good Food that was beautifully plated. - Bread service - I know it's just bread but damn this bread is a beautiful creation of dough and baked to perfection. - Harvest Vegetable Bisque is fantastic! And completely plant based so don't let the "bisque" in the name scare you away. - Red Abalone appetizer - don't bother as you don't get to taste the abalone. The brioche and sauce overpower the abalone... so all you taste is brioche and butter sauce. - The farm fowl is hearty and comforting. The quail is quite tender. Loved all the veg in the dish too. - Salmon was perfectly prepared... meaty yet tender. Sadly the low points.... outweigh what should have been a lovely dinner out. - We received our wine AFTER we were mostly done with our appetizers. We even waited to start enjoying our appetizers thinking our wine would be out at the same time. Since my soup was getting cold, I could not wait any longer and had 1 bite left when our wine finally showed up. - Our server seemed overtaxed. It appeared he was trying to help literally everyone from what I could tell and disappeared for long stretches of time. - The 1 mom (sitting at the table behind us) constantly telling her toddler to sit down (the toddler was actually quiet, it was the mom that was irritating). - The multi family, multi kid large table that sat in the middle of the patio (while not super noisy) was disruptive with the kids constantly walking around all the tables and going back and forth from the patio to the "outside" down the stairs by our table. Seriously... your kids don't care that you want to sit and drink and hang out... they want to move and play and be kids. Eat and then take them someplace else.

The price was reasonable--about $10, with an additional charge for toppings such as tomato, cilantro, onions, sour cream, and guacamole. Before ordering, I asked which meats were fresh, and I was told that all of the meats had been prepared that day. I took my burrito to a nearby park and was disappointed from the first bite. The carnitas were very dry and seemed to have little flavor beyond salt. The meat also had a slightly gray appearance and did not taste like freshly cooked pork. It seemed as though it had been reheated, which only made it drier. There were also a couple of small burnt bits in the burrito. The burrito itself was mostly refried beans, with a small amount of rice. For roughly the first three-quarters of the burrito, I barely noticed any of the extra toppings I had paid for. When I finally reached the center, there was a very small amount of guacamole, even less sour cream, and a little tomato, onion, and cilantro. The cilantro was actually the highlight of the burrito--it tasted fresh and added some flavor--but there wasn't enough of it to make much difference overall. Unfortunately, this meal did not live up to the reviews or my expectations. While the price was fair, the quality and flavor were disappointing, and I would not order the carnitas burrito again. I ended up throwing away 1/2 of the burrito. As far as ambiance, it is just a tiny place geared toward takeout with some outside seating right along the road.

They have you fill out a form for ordering a sandwich. On one side of the form you can order a speciality sandwich with all the ingredients listed or on the other side you can build your own sandwich. Then you give the form to the deli cashier and they call your name when it's ready. I had the Malibu chicken speciality sandwich, which was excellent. It came on the softest roll and the chicken had plenty of flavor. A couple other people in our party had the tri tip sandwich and said it was delicious. I would definitely return to Jerome's for a deli lunch again.

The aisles can be a bit small which I could see being a bit of a pain if there are lots of people in the store. You can pretty much find anything you are looking for here. Albeit not necessarily the same volume as a chain grocery store but everything here seems to be good quality. We found lots of good wine as well. Then we got to the deli. It's pretty impressive with standard items like the various prepared salads (chicken, tuna, etc). We wanted to try the sandwiches and for that you'll need to get the order forms from outside near the entrance, then take them to the counter, wait a bit and they'll call you when it's ready. We both got mediterranean sandwiches to go. You can get build your own as well but I figured I'd go with one on the menu. The sandwich was delicious. Fresh ingredients, really good bread, and everything just worked in the sandwich. I really enjoyed it. We also got some butter beans from the deli and those were amazing as well. I highly recommend Jerome's and will be back again.

Although it didn't have as much of that ambrosia apple that I was expecting, it was still quite good nonetheless and I picked up one bottle. I'd say overall, I found Baker & Olive vinegars (down in SoCal) to be more flavorful and true, but this place does shine in their "25 Star" 25-year aged balsamic offering, which definitely lets this shop stand out among their peers. The 25 Star is a must try, pours a dark, rich honey like texture and tastes like blackberry and red fruit with an ultra-long honey finish. I also picked up some Haskap berry elixir mix which I was really excited by. Haskap berries I had never heard of prior to visiting this shop and they apparently contain large amounts of natural antioxidants/anthocyanins which are incredible for health. I had previously been consuming elderberries and wild blueberries which are also high in antioxidants and was delighted to find yet another natural berry source for those. The olive oils there are also quite nice -- although I was not looking for olive oils that day in particular I would return to pick up a bottle the next time I am in the area. They have so many different varietals and even do interesting stuff like Butter Olive Oil (there is no actual butter contained -- the flavor is due to the addition of some kind of nutritional yeast). Looking forward to my next trip back!!! Do check out the rest of Carmel Valley as well, it's a beautiful locale and I caught the golden hour right around 4 pm which made for some unforgettable sun-kissed sights along the drive into the valley.
