2 stars Just ate an almond croissant made by Lupita at a marina coffee shop. It is nothing like a traditional almond paste croissant that you can expect to find in Paris. Everything about it was wrong. The dryness of the bread, the apparent lack of butter, the use of powdered milk, the overly sugariness of the almond paste itself. The marina coffee shop used to carry an almond croissant from another bakery, which I was really looking forward to. So when I bit into this one, I was immensely disappointed. Taste is subjective so I can't say that it's terrible, but I really wanted to throw out the remainder of what I was eating. read more

My husband and I clearly fell in love with this place. We were back in our hotel room and needed something sweet. I punched in bakery and this place caught my eye instantly. I love pan dulce.. As soon as we opened the door I was in Pan Dulce heaven. We selected a few, enough for the evening and for the morning with coffee. Conchas were amazing, not dry at all. We also had blueberry muffins for the morning and those were moist and tasty. We ended up going the next evening for a refill as we were headed back to the Bay Area the following morning. Welp, it was sooooo good we went again in the morning. We had to share with our family. We went three days in a row!! I look forward to my next trip out there! read more

We saw them on social media featuring a Dubai chocolate croissant. So we knew we had to make a stop. We went about 3 o'clock and I was a little nervous thinking they wouldn't have any selections available, but they had plenty. They offer your typical pan bread selection. But then they have the creative side, which was the Dubai chocolate croissant that we got, which was delicious. The filling was super crunchy a lot with these Dubai chocolate recipes the filling has to be perfect crunch and creamy, and that's what it was! They also had other selections like homemade pop tarts, which were hit and various flavors of cupcakes! Next time we stop, we definitely have to try to taqueria side because that looks delish!!! read more

Fun and lively place with a rack of pastries, case of croissants and more plus the taqueria station. I was looking for something to nosh as my adventure to Maligne was delayed when they didn't open for lunch. Service was very friendly and I felt like it would be a hit. If only the food matched. I had a Pollo Asado and Barbarcoa taco. Shredded meat with a red sauce, I'd give it a 3.5. But the Chicken was cut and nuked before adding to the taco and unfortunately it was dry. I tossed picked at it and tossed most of it. The Flan looked interesting and lady said it was good. Sorry but it was somehow split between a flan and jello, not too sweet though. I had one of their carrot cake muffins at a soccer game at the Cardinale arena near CSUMB and it was so good!! I went to the actual bakery because I've been craving their carrot cake muffin. I got a couple conchas and two carrot cake muffins. I've tried other carrot cakes before and the carrot cake are Lupitas bakery is hands down my favorite!! I was looking for a champagne birthday cake for my finances 18 birthday awhile back and they did an amazing job being able to do everything last minute. It came out amazing and tasty! I visited this bakery for the first time the other day and wasn't quite sure what to expect. Right when you walk in, you're met with racks of conchas--like, right in your face. It was a little overwhelming at first, but once you get your bearings, it starts to feel more organized. They have trays and tongs out for customers to grab conchas and whatever other pastries catch your eye, which adds to the self-serve, old-school bakery vibe. To the right is a counter with all the baked goods, and further in there's another counter where you can order burritos, tortas, and more. But what I really came for was the Dubai chocolate croissant. I saw another Yelp review mention it and knew I had to try it--and it did not disappoint. Flaky, rich, and totally worth the hype. Definitely worth a stop, just be ready for a bit of sensory overload when you first walk in. I'll be back to try more. read more

I really wanted to like this more than I did, and it's possible that this review is due to my own poor decision making. Let's get into it... Ambiance - Lupita's bakery is a cozy little taqueria/bakery thrown into one small building. If you're seeking pastries, customers grab a metal tray and metal tongs and pick out whatever goodies they'd like and then go and pay at the counter. It was really fascinating to watch people navigate all the baking racks. A lot of the stuff I had no idea what it was, so it was too intimidating for me to try and pick anything out. Food - I ordered a torta with steak ranchero from the taqueria. Here's the good part. Being in a bakery, the tortas are made on bread that I'm assuming is baked fresh at that bakery. The bread was my favorite part of the whole sandwich. The rest was merely OK. The meat had been sitting in a container and I have no idea how long ago it had been prepared. It was reheated when my sandwich was made and crisped up, but overall the meat was lacking in flavor and the fact that it had been sitting out for an unknown period of time was a little off-putting. I finished the sandwich, but more because I was starving than because it was great. It wasn't terrible, just not great either. Very average. On the bakery side, I attempted to ask the lady working what she'd recommend for a pastry. I wanted to try something that lots of people liked to get a good feel for what this bakery was all about. She couldn't understand me, so I wasn't able to get a good answer. I ended up trying a piece of carrot cake, which is something I usually enjoy but found this one to be just OK. I should have tried an authentic mexican pastry, so I take a good part of the blame here. I just didn't know enough to make a good choice. Service - The ladies working at both spots were very friendly and sweet. I wish I could have communicated better with the one on the bakery side, but that's just a small gripe and more on me than anything else. Overall, the food being just average in both areas brings this down to a 3-star experience for me. I feel like it could've been better had I made better choices, so if I go back I will try different things to see if that influences my experience at all. The vibe was cool and it was buzzing in there while I was waiting for my food. Great customer service and a variety of delicious food/treats to choose from. If you actually know how authentic mexican food taste like, you will definitely be satisfied. Hidden gem for sure. We stopped by for a quick bit and we got just what we were looking for. The regular burrito is shareable and very tasty. We ordered it with chorizo con papas and a torta with chile verde. Soooo good! We arrived around 6:45 in the evening and were immediately greeted by the sight (and smell!) of freshly baked pan dulce, with carts full of warm bread right as we walked in. We couldn't resist and ended up grabbing a little bit of almost everything. The bread was incredibly fresh--fluffy on the inside with a perfectly crisp crust. I prefer my bread to be just slightly sweeter, but overall, the flavor was great. The worker who helped us was very friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. I had seen this place pop up on some of my socials so I decided to needed to make it a stop on my next trip down in the area. I don't know if it was the time of day I went (Saturday around 3pm) but I was not impressed. Yes it was later in the day but for a place that is open until 10pm you would think there would be baked good around the clock. I came in and there was minimal pan dulce, no conchas, and what was out was donuts and cookies. I saw they had the Dubai Croissant and it looked good so that's what I got. I was underwhelmed. While it looked great, it was a plain croissant and that chocolate drizzled over it. It wasn't even a flaky croissant so I'm not sure if it was baked in house. It has the crunchy phyllo dough inside but there was not pistachio or any kind of filling mixed with the phyllo flakes so it was super dry. I grabbed the home made cinnamon pop tart, concha's, a chocolate covered cinnamon roll, and ended up getting a chicken and potato/cheese taquito as well. Taquitos/rolled tacos are so so good. This is a one stop shop! Come in and get your hunger and sweet tooth satisfied! They have food, the handmade corn quesadillas are delicious. Fresh juices! The bread is amazing, fresh, soft, not too sweet and perfect flavor (at least to my taste lol). Customer service was also great! This place is on point like Stacey Adams!! From the outside you might not recognize the place if it's your first time here. After that the experience is amazing!! There are racks and racks and racks of sweetness ready to be eaten. I mean we walked in and was like heck yea let's get down!! They make juices that are great and rusty as well. What a cute place!!!! The neon light is what did it for me. My parents come here all the time because they have amazing veggie juices- beet, celery, kale plus fruits! Yum. Service: I would give a 3-4 star because people working that day were not very helpful, and seem irritated I was ordering food. i was there at 5:40, they seem to close at 6. (i dont believe the timeframe was too bad to not receive proper help, and i was unaware that it closes at 6). Ordered two burritos with asada. Food: the burritos were ok, the quantity was very nice. But unfortunately there were a bunch of chunky fatty meats in them. Dont know if this was correlated with the above. 1-2 piece i would understand but a couple in each was not great. Went here twice. First time was a high then it was a low the next day. High is on our first day we got the conchas and the churros and they were fresh. It was good! Best churros we've had that made us go back the next day for more. So the next day I go back for more churros, there wasn't much left so that should be a sign it's probably not fresh anymore. I still bought some more thinking it would be made the day of but I was wrong. Wasn't fresh. It was dry. Other items we got were cookies that my kids enjoyed, not overly sweet. We ordered breakfast for pickup from here. I have the hardest time finding good breakfast burritos, and this place has them! We ordered two breakfast burritos, two tamales de rajas, polvorones, conchas and a couple of ginger shots. Everything was so good, the conchas so soft, the polvorones were nice and crumbly. The only bummer was that the tamales ended up being pork instead of rajas, still good but not what we were expecting. They have a lot for parking at the side of the building as well as some outdoor seating. I definitely recommend this place and am looking forward to eating here next time we visit Monterey/Seaside. read more

Living in Salinas was great because it was so close to the ocean. And close to so many fine restaurants. And this being one if them, I was occasionally seen in here enjoying some of their great food. I really liked the burrito bowl. In fact it my favorite dish served up here. And those Mecican desserts are delicious. That was the main thing that brought me here. What a great Hispanic bakery! I'm from Texas so I've been to a few great ones so I know when I tell you this was a great bakery! It has cookies, empanadas, concha's and so much more. If you're hungry, they have someone cooking at the grill I had two tacos which I enjoyed. The extra plus is that they are open late so you can get something for breakfast the next morning. I hope people in the area have a chance to try them. It's unique! read more
