We wanted a late breakfast, and this place was right around the corner. It's a cozy little spot. The service is excellent. I got a California dream bagel. That comes with avocado and alfalfa sprouts. I love this place! The bagels are super fresh and have that perfect balance between doughy and airy - also a good crunch when toasted. My wife and I try and stop here every time we are visiting the coast. You can't go wrong with the bagels but my preference is the jalapeño cheddar, sourdough, garlic or onion. This bagel spot is overpriced and not the best quality. The menu is extensive and I felt pressured by staff to order right away when perusing the different options. I settled on 2 egg breakfast bagels and they cost over $25. There was $5 of unknown additional charges, which I can only attribute to the addition of cream cheese and choosing a cheddar cheese bagel. I had the California dream and it was decent. It was oddly cut into 4 pieces which made all the toppings fall off when eating. Something disappointing to note is that the eggs for their breakfast bagels are cooked in the microwave. Stopped by here for a couple of bagels with cream cheese and was very pleased! The bagels we're a great size, nice and soft but crispy on the outside. The garlic bagel had tons of crispy garlic on the outside and the onion bagel had great onion crisps on the outside. The staff was helpful and quick to help me when I came in. The parking looks like it can be a bit of an issue since it's right in the middle of downtown Monterey, but we got lucky and found a spot right in the front! The pricing was very reasonable as well. This place is beyond incompetent. I went in with a friend. She had an appointment so I agreed to cover her cost since all she was getting was an orange juice and an UNTOASTED chocolate croissant. There was 1 person waiting to check out and 3 people behind the counter. I ordered: ONE Bacon Egg and Cheese on onion, ONE breakfast burrito with sausage, ONE cinnamon bagel toasted, ONE UNTOASTED CHOCOLATE CROISSANT, and 2 coffees and a orange juice. I asked the eldest woman behind the counter to please give me the chocolate croissant right away and I would pay at the counter at the end. I had to ask SIX TIMES (she kept repeating "Yes" back to me) but then NOT doing it. I don't know if she couldn't understand me behind the face mask or if her language barrier is too intense to understand what I was asking. What I do know is that she, instead of doing what I asked, kept walking away and then GRABBED A SECOND UNASKED FOR CROISSANT. Then finally the man behind the counter after my SIXTH attempt of asking her to please give me the UNTOASTED chocolate croissant slammed down the normal (not ordered) croissant in a bag. My friend was able to leave but that was just the beginning of the issues. They had to be told my order (a simple BEC, no substitutions or additions, on onion multiple and a Breakfast Burrito with sausage) I had to repeat my order multiple times. Keep in mind there were THREE people behind the counter and the only person in front of me had long since paid. It took 3 people MULTIPLE times to get that order. Despite repeatedly being told the order - in the end, they added bacon to my breakfast burrito which I HATE. I hate bacon so I just threw it out. THEN CAME TIME TO PAY! They didn't give me a receipt with itemized cost. They failed to demonstrate what I paid at all. I don't normally do it but I even did the text receipt option. Look below at this nonsense! No itemization to confirm what you paid for. Why does this matter? They tried to charge me TWICE. And in fact succeeded because I was about to scream in their face. They charged me for the TWO CROISSANT. They had ALREADY charged me once for the single croissant I asked for and then they made me pay for the second croissant which (a) we weren't given and (b) WE NEVER ORDERED. And their system is so antiquated and unorganized that they couldn't even pull a receipt to prove that I hadn't been charged. This place is not worth the incompetence. Point blank. Nothing about their food is worth their inability to listen and follow simple directions. Add in the fact that they decided to try (and succeeded) in hustling me for extra cash for items we didn't ask for or want. NEVER GO TO THIS PLACE. read more
