10/10 Ordered the apple fritter and ube donut, plus they threw in some freebies, blueberry donut and donut holes! The apple fritter was easily the best I've ever had. Absolute perfection, crispy on the outside with that caramelized, slightly charred sugar, and packed with soft apple pieces inside. The texture balance was unreal: crunchy edges with a soft, sweet center. The ube donut was good too, definitely on the sweeter side. If you love sweet treats, you'll enjoy it, but I personally wished the ube flavor came through a bit more to balance it out. The blueberry donut was another standout. Super soft and muffin-like with plenty of blueberry flavor throughout, plus a nice outer layer for texture. Honestly way better than a typical chain version. Donut holes were solid as well, simple, fresh, and satisfying. Overall, everything tasted fresh and high quality. Service was fast, and the baker was super friendly, hooked it up with extra donuts, which made the experience even better. The vibe was welcoming, and it's definitely a spot worth checking out. If it was only possible to make the 5 hour trek everyday!!!! Needed something quick for our family of 4, but substantial for my husband. And wow did this place give us both! The bagels & bagel sandwiches were amazing! I don't know that I've ever had a fresher, more delicious plain bagel before. The basic bagel sandwich was also so good. I got my go to from a donut shop- the ale fritter. It took me 2 days to eat this thing. It was HUGE! and perfectly cooked..... crunchy on the outside, super soft on the inside. The service was fast, efficient and friendly.... Even giving our kiddos small stickers on the way out! This is a cute and very busy donut shop. When you walk in, it's a very open and inviting space. I really tried my best not to order the whole store because they have such a delicious variety of donuts. The lady who took my order and helped me was very nice. I ordered: 1. Bacon croissantwich - I loved the layers of the croissant. It was moist and not too messy. It was a perfect balance of egg and cheese. 2. Chicken apple sausage breakfast burrito - perfect balance of egg and sausage. It was simple, but oh, so satisfying. 3. Cronut - Crunchy exterior but fluffy on the inside. I'm pretty surprised, I never usually like donuts but the glazed, chocolate and custard ones are delightful. They are a bit too sweet but the little tangy/salty aftertaste adds a good balance to it. The atmosphere is very chill and the coffee is okay, but the focus is more on the donuts. They also have breakfast sandwiches (menu attached) Ambiance: It is a very small place and they have a few tables. My suggestion is to get your food to go. Food: We ordered donuts (pics attached) - 2 chocolate raised, 1 maple raised and 1 jelly glazed. Also ordered 2 glazed raised donuts (sorry, no pic). These are probably some of the best donuts I've ever tasted. We also ordered two iced coffees (really good) and a hot tea. Not a great tea selection so don't recommend. Logistics: you stand in line, order, pay for and receive your order at the register. It was really slow. When it was finally our turn, she boxed up our donuts and set them to the side and said nothing else. We finally had to ask about our donuts, tea and coffees. Something's not quite right with the plain glazed donut I have loved in the past. The glaze recipe has been messed with! I can't exactly put my finger on it, but I think they may have added or over added (maybe a bad imitation) vanilla to the recipe? Is there new owners in the last 3 years? I've been a fan of Monterey donuts since they first opened...and in fact, I was their first customer. Had my photo on thier and it was on the wall for several years. But I digress. Anyway, I think the donuts here are simply better than anywhere else, even the long established Monterey area favorite...which I won't call out...and in truth has good donuts, just not great donuts. The donuts at Monterey donuts are always more tender, more flavorful, flaky, cakes, less greasy, you name it, they're just the best. Now, they've recently moved into a space next door to thier original spot. It's smaller now, in terms of customer space...so the selection isn't quite as big as before, but they've still got all the variety you can want of regular, fancy, cake, glazed...you name it. But the really exciting part of thier change is they've expanded into breakfast sandwiches...and coffee offerings. The breakfast Bagels and croissants are especially delicious...so give them a try and grab a dozen donuts to go! I have a 4/5 because I'm still trying to find a donut shop that tops Scotty's donuts in Visalia, CA. I haven't yet but I will say this place is a good second. I do prefer my donuts with more icing than these had but they were fluffy and perfect, apple fritter could have more apple pieces but it was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside! The mangonada freeze was really good too! We ordered one with and without tajin, both good but the one without was more preferred but the tajin made it taste more authentic. The plain buttermilk donut loaf is the best with low sugar, so the tender cake is extra delicious. Decaf coffee sits all day, so be careful as the warmer boils it giving the decaf a burned taste. But... it's hot! Since coffee beverages can be made individually, it should be a cinch to have any of them in decaf. I'm not sure they understand how it works. I went to grab a donut this morning and ended up leaving because the service was horrible. I waited about 10 minutes, which I didn't even mind, but when someone else walked in they helped her immediately even though I was there first. It was my first impression of the place and definitely my last. The owner (I'm guessing) came out and didn't look like he was wearing gloves and was touching his shirt while handling things.
