We have bought bagels since 1977 when they opened behind Safeway in Pacific Grove. They were 15 cents. For the first few years the new owners did whay River Gurtin began but now the prices are ridiculous. Today we bought two Kuperman's - cheese, sprouts and tomato. $7.75 each!! And they not longer use the cheese River did so we could barely taste it. In conclusion- higher prices for a lesser product. We won't repeat. read more

I can't believe how terrible the service is at The Bagel Bakery. The place is infested with flies, which should have been my first warning to leave. The staff clearly doesn't care about hygiene--several of them have long, oily hair hanging loose while they handle food. That's a blatant health violation! Our bagels were finished and sat on the counter for a good five minutes while the staff just stood around. There were four employees working and only six customers, yet no one bothered to give us our food. On top of that, the place is ridiculously overpriced for what you get, and it's so unorganized it's almost laughable. It's clear the staff is either incompetent or just doesn't care about their customers. Do yourself a favor and skip this place. Head up the road to The Bagel Kitchen if you want decent service and food. This place is a total disappointment! read more

This place was a waste of $50, I would recommend going elsewhere. I got a plain croissant and a ham and cheese croissant (they tasted stale and smelled rancid ), lox bagel, breakfast burrito, a Thai tea, and a blended coffee. I was going to get boba in my drink until I saw that they microwave the boba in a melted plastic container for several minutes. Food and drinks did not taste good. Staff was not rude, but also not good. Very poor communication all around between workers and a longer than expected wait time to gather all the food and drink. Place did not play music, and staff could have been friendlier and more efficient. There are better places in the area to get a quick and filling breakfast. First of all, I've been a Bagel Bakery customer since the late 70's. The bagels are the best. That said, lately, my experience with the Bagel Bakery has changed considerably. Prices have doubled since the pandemic (which is the story everywhere), but the service has slipped. I never order more than two bagels at a time. And, with no exception, when I get home, one bagel is always made wrong. (It happened again today.) I love Henry (the owner) and his family, but I am going to have to limit my trips to the Bagel Bakery, and limit what I order to simple bagels with cream cheese. The staff takes your order, never write anything down, and then make the bagels wrong. And for the prices they charge now, I'm taking my money elsewhere. read more

Stopped in for a quick breakfast while in town. I got the sausage omelette on a jalapeño cheese bagel and hubs got the HBO on a jalapeño cheese bagel. The bagels themselves were chewy (in the good way bagels should be) and they were both plenty big enough for us. The line went out the door by the time we left, so you know it's tasty. This was a great Yelp find in a local neighborhood shopping center fairly near Asilomar where we were having a family reunion for a group of 9 spread in 3 generations. A bagel shop was needed 2 of the mornings. This is a branch location of a small group of local bagel shops that one of our family members had eaten at in her youth in a nearby town. It's a little hard to find from the Highway 68 side (driveway by the Starbucks) but easy from the David Ave side (closer to Lucky Market.) Please note the name of this one accurately as the neighbor shopping center (on the other side of David) has a bagel shop with a very similar name but different ownership. But we did not try that one. Bagel Bakery is much more than bagels too. Various pastries, juices, soda drinks, coffee and tea options, chips, fruit, bottled water plus lots of varieties of bagel sandwiches. Both days, other customers kindly made it possible for us to push together enough tables to feed our group. The staff members were also great, friendly, helpful, quick, accurate with every order both days. The place was clean, the parking plentiful in the Country Club Gate Shopping center. This is a well known spot for the locals of Pacific Grove. We went in for lunch and you can tell they stay busy because their bagel supply was almost depleted. I ordered a sesame bagel with herb cream cheese, sprouts and avocado. It looks like the make their flavored cream cheeses in house. The herbs in the cream cheese were a little too much and you could barely taste the cream cheese, but the rest was delicious. The bagel had a great texture and the veggies were fresh. My husband tried an egg wrap which is basically a bagel type dough which is filled with eggs, cream cheese and cheddar cheese. It wasn't bad but just not favorite. They do have boba drinks so we ordered a strawberry blended and a mocha blended. Both were delicious. The prices were about average. What I was impressed with was the service. We ordered 5 food items and 3 drinks. We only told the girl once and she remembered everything. read more

Did you know that the bagel bakery sells breakfast burritos? I was unaware. I've known the bagel bakery since the original hippie owners owed it when I was just a little tot. Haven't been too stoked on the bagels in recent years...but still buy them every so often. Not anymore. Staff was friendly and efficient, in spite of the fact that it was a holiday during which 5000 people in the area had a power outage and apparently all decided to go out for breakfast at the same time. My friend went to pick up bagels for us this morning we usually go to the bagel kitchen however this one was closer so she decided to go to the bagel bakery when she got there she ordered her bagel with avocado which ended up being Completely brown and rotten ruining her whole bagel she also ordered my plain bagel with cream cheese an apple juice kombucha and a bag of chips which should've been about eight dollars however she was charge 16 and didn't notice she was double charged until she was very far from the shop overall a bad place I would just recommend going a few more blocks to the bagel kitchen read more

I came in Monday morning for a quick breakfast before hitting the road and wasn't disappointed. The location is next to the Pet Supply store, and very close to the new Starbucks, which is convenient. We were greeted immediately. The menu has a lot of breakfast and lunch sandwich options. I went for the Hamlet - ham, cheese, egg, on a plain bagel. Everything gets thrown in the microwave, nothing fancy, and they have Philadelphia spreads. The server put it together right away, with a smile. I got it home without it getting too soggy. The sandwich was good, less egg as I'd requested and it tasted good. Nothing flashy, not too pricey, no complaints! read more

The menu is large with many varieties but lots of similar things which makes your decision process THAT much harder. We chose to go with the sliced lox and turkey avocado club. Both were fantastic sandwiches. I have no complaints with the food. We left with happy bellies. We also got the mocha frappe and iced caramel latte. The latte was all right but the frappe was very sweet and perfect consistency. The overall shop was not very pretty but it did the job. Yelp describes 3 stars as A-OK... I think that's accurate. My bagel sandwich satisfied me before our journey along 17-Mile Drive, but not much beyond that. It didn't inspire me to write sonnets or start a non-profit organization to rescue baby seals or remember the name or taste of anything I ate. They do have a cool little lounge area in the front with a comfy couch and chair where you can read, eat your bagelwich, trade an old book in for another book someone has left. Bagel Bakery is a chain of bagel shops that apparently dates back years ago. I've gone to their SF location many many times when I was working in the city so i knew this place would provide reliable bagel and breakfast offerings. I learned that this place was new and they recently just moved from across the street. I liked the decor, it has a charming cafe feel and the staff were suuuuper friendly. The bagel tasted great, much like their other locations, and offered a wide variety of things to snack on. This is now my go-to when i'm visiting PG. read more

Their veggies bagel is my fave, but sadly their not transparent about their prices. We recently bought two large boba drinks and a cheese bagel with plain cream cheese and it came to $18.... It would have been fine if I knew what I was spending, then perhaps I could tailor it to my needs. Bottom line is, they are over charging and by only offering the customer a choice of their receipt emailed or via texts and by doing it this way your are not getting the " itemized " recipe you would get when given the option of a paper receipt.
