Walk straight from the entrance to order under the overhead menu before sitting at a table. A large horchata is two sweet servings in a glass. I ordered a chimichanga last time, but we had huevos rancheros and machaca chilaquiles rojo for late brunch. It looked better with them on, but they unexpectedly turned off most of the lights in the afternoon because it was daytime. Many people were picking up cakes for Father's Day this weekend.

$12.25 beef cheeks burrito was: gamey. Not that great. Flavor balance was just "tons of meat". On the plus side: cheap and sizeable. This was my 1st beef cheeks anything. So judging this place on just that isn't fair but the experience of eating it was so sub par, I'd need a strong recommendation from a friend for me to come back again.

This cakes slices used to be double this size. Now they're half the portion and $7

I always try to keep my money local and don't get me wrong I love their cakes. But today it's the first time I was really disappointed. The slices used to be about $6 if I'm not wrong , now they're $7 but the portion was split in 2 so realistically I'm getting half of what I used to , for more money. From now on I guess I'll have to look for another place where I can get my cakes. This portion is ridiculous, also the tres leches I bough my son had no leche. Go figure

The food is delicious. It has really good flavor.. highly recommend the bacon breakfast burrito. Also the torta Cubana.. you get what you pay for an it's worth every it. I would say over all the prices are really reasonable. The Champurrado has a really good flavor, I just wish it was a little warmer.. The service was wonderful, we were treated and sat immediately.. when we got here there wasn't that many people but slowly it started to get busy still the ambiance was great.. highly recommend this place.. we will be back

We ordered ahead for pickup and got the cactus and eggs torta with everything, and the torta cubana with everything. Cactus and eggs torta: It was a bit spicy from the jalapenos. It was creamy and mild overall in flavor. I do wish it was a little more strongly flavored (not just by the jalapenos) but otherwise it was decent. Torta cubana: It was also a bit spicy from jalapeno, and was definitely quite a bit saltier than the cactus and eggs one, probably because of the meat. Overall, both were good and I appreciate the amount of options on the menu.

The machaca breakfast burrito is amazing! Fast, courteous service, delicious food. Worth a stop.

La Tortuga is a local favorite serving Oaxacan style food. They also have some dessert items to go also. I loved the Oaxaca Flauta Plate. My friend got the beef flautas and I got the chicken flautas. Nice large portion with black bean sauce, rice and salad. Service is excellent. We also ordered 2 shrimp tacos that had grilled peppers. Everything tasted great.

Definitely recommend this authentic Mexican/ Oaxacan restaurant! This was our first time and we will definitely be returning.

Just almost perfect .. If you don't read any more, I highly recommend and we will certainly return. If you read a little more, the 1 star drop is the fact my lunch came way after my wife's of which I asked her to start and she was 3/4 way through by the time mine arrived. .......ok... I had La Tortuga on the bucket list along with a couple more Mexicans in the Seaside area. I suggested to my wife we should go out for lunch and try La Tortuga. Parking is easy, restaurant is canteen style with plenty of seating. Menu was a little overwhelming at first glance as it's split between two walls with some being text and some being pictures... the staff were super helpful and very accommodating leading us to a shrimp ceviche style dish and a chorizo sandwich. My wife's came out first (Ceviche) which is totally understandable, it tasted fresh and put a smile on her face which is all I could really ask for. My sandwich arrived a little later which was almost the size of a small planet .. a total monster ... It was really interesting, the bread was so light it was hard to discern it was actually bread with a lovely background kick from the Chorizo. I managed to get half way through before throwing in the towel and taking the 2nd half to-go. We both washed the food down with Horchata which again was on point. All in all it was a great suggestion, it might not make it to the top of my list but judging by how packed it got I suspect a couple more visits and different options and I might very well change my mind. Thank you La Tortuga... great job and you were all so so nice we want to come back !

Stopping by Seaside for our favorite El Molcajete Oaxaqueno dish! It is still the best although the bean gravy taste has changed slightly. I like the new version but the old version is definitely better!

Really disappointing experience. I ordered a dish that included nopales, which wasn't mentioned in the description. I politely let the staff know I didn't like it and that I wouldn't have ordered it if I had known--but I was completely ignored. The girl at the front even rolled her eyes at me, which was honestly shocking. Poor communication and even worse customer service. Definitely won't be coming back.

This place is so authentic. Out of all the places me and my girlfriend ate out here, this place is the best. The food has so much flavor and the dishes they offer are as real as it gets. Please do yourself a favor and give it a try. Will come back if I'm ever in town. The ladies running this place are so nice and sweet.

My wife, my son, and I recently spent two nights at the Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel and Spa while…read morecelebrating my 66th birthday. I redeemed 32,000 World of Hyatt points per night for a one-bedroom suite. The property itself is beautiful and has tremendous potential, but unfortunately the attention to detail and overall execution fell short of what I expected from a Hyatt Regency. Prior to arrival, I personally emailed General Manager Kevin Ellis and explained that we were visiting Monterey to celebrate my birthday. Upon arrival, there were two balloons on the coffee table and two handwritten coupons for house drinks. While I appreciate any acknowledgment, it didn't feel particularly thoughtful for an adult milestone birthday. A personalized note, bottle of wine, or tasteful welcome amenity would have created a much more memorable impression. The suite was spacious and attractive, but housekeeping needed more attention. The master shower had visible dark spotting around the caulking that appeared to be mildew, and the carpeting did not appear thoroughly cleaned. The suite also had very limited amenities--essentially a couple of paper cups and Keurig pods, with no proper glassware or silverware. Our reservation clearly indicated three guests: my wife, my adult son, and myself. Yet the suite appeared prepared primarily for two. My son was supposed to use the sofa bed, which unfortunately was extremely uncomfortable and caused significant back discomfort. Management later provided World of Hyatt points for the inconvenience, which I appreciated, but a suite designed to accommodate additional guests should provide a reasonably comfortable sleeping arrangement. Another major frustration involved my World of Hyatt reservation. Despite redeeming 32,000 points per night, there was repeated confusion regarding the resort/destination fee and my applicable benefits. I ultimately received the fee waiver, but only after repeatedly contacting the front desk. At one point, I was told this was somehow a "modified" World of Hyatt reservation. I still don't understand what was modified--I redeemed my World of Hyatt points and booked as a World of Hyatt member. There also seemed to be a disconnect between what the reservation team communicated before arrival and what the hotel understood once we arrived. A loyalty member redeeming a substantial number of points should not have to repeatedly explain the reservation or chase down applicable benefits. My biggest concern, however, was management responsiveness. When guests take the time to communicate concerns, particularly directly with senior management, there should be timely acknowledgment and follow-through. Several matters seemed to require additional emails before receiving a response. The property is beautiful, the location is appealing, and the suite has tremendous potential. But beautiful facilities alone don't create exceptional hospitality. Housekeeping, communication, responsiveness, consistency, and attention to detail make the difference. I appreciate that management eventually provided some points and addressed certain concerns. However, compensation after problems occur is not a substitute for getting the fundamentals right from the beginning. With stronger operational oversight, better coordination between reservations and the property, improved housekeeping, and more knowledgeable handling of World of Hyatt reservations and benefits, this could be an excellent hotel. Unfortunately, our experience did not match the potential of this otherwise beautiful property.

The Experience & Service: There was some noticeable confusion when our meals were served. A food runner brought out my husband's plate first, then turned to me and asked if I had ordered anything. When I told her I ordered the Crab Cake Benedict, she asked if our server had mentioned they were out of it and if I had picked a replacement. He hadn't told me anything of the sort. A few minutes later, our server came by to reassure me my food would be out shortly, bringing a small bowl of fruit to tide me over. My plate did eventually arrive, but the miscommunication up front was a bit awkward. The Food: Crab Cake Benedict: Unfortunately, the dish was just okay. The crab cake itself tasted like a pre-breaded, frozen patty rather than freshly made. Smothered under the poached eggs and hollandaise sauce, it was fine, but nothing special. Omelet & Home Fries: My husband really enjoyed his omelet. However, his side of home fries was a letdown--they weren't cooked through properly and had an off-taste of old fryer oil. Final Verdict: The staff is nice and trying hard during a busy rush, but given the service hiccups and average food execution, I'm not sure we would return if we're in the area again.
