Three words: Yerba mate latte. Excellent drink, it had this rich earthiness with a hint of bitter notes from the mate and a very smooth and mild sweetness. Amazing. Solid empanadas, monkey bread was good though a little dry. Still, wonderful spot, I look forward to coming back. Super friendly service and they serve the drinks in super cute, different shaped mugs. Also, GREAT spot if you need to do work. I didn't, but it's spacious enough to have people having conversations on one side and people doing work on the other side.

Super lovely ambiance inside & all the staff are very friendly and attentive. I always come here when I'm visiting Monterey! Plenty of seating and the food and drinks are some of the best in town :-)

I ordered a hot dulce de leche latte and it was quite delicious! We also watched a world cup semi-final game here and it was such a nice space. There is also an extremely nice back patio as well.

We came here as a quick stop before heading to the aquarium - it's just around the corner so it was really convenient. We ordered the dulce de leche latte with oat milk and it was really good and super rich. The brisket empanada is 5/5 - HIGHLY recommend. The ham & cheese was also good with a white creamy cheese. We also ordered the pulled pork and beef. The pastries were good too! We got the guava pastry, chocolate chip cookie, and mini alfajors - would def recommend these too. They were the perfect size, light, and the dulce de leche filling was the perfect amount of sweetness. Chill, earthy vibe. Plenty of seating. Cute spot! Little pricey at $10 per empanada. But they were tasty!

I loved the guava tart from this cafe, it was not too sweet and paired well with my iced vanilla coffee. The garden patio setting was a pleasant surprise, we could have stayed out there for hours if we had more time. I was unable to try the empanadas because sadly they fell over onto the floor when I was unpacking after I got home. More reason for me to go back again when I am in town. This place is a cool cafe and loved that they are LGBT friendly that is always a plus.

What a lovely coffee shop! My decaf latte was perfect, and my breakfast empanada was tasty. The staff was super friendly too. I can't wait to come back.

Gluten free options attracted our attention. The rest of the menu, the coffee beverages, and the pastry case took it up a whole 'nother level to fantastico! Delicious empanada options to match your preferences. We were greeted warmly by the team decked out in Paraguayan national football team jerseys (soccer, not American football). Ordering at the counter was quick, easy, no line you don't want to stand in. Table delivery was timely. We enjoy the decor of Paraguayan flags and cultural wall art. The colors are warm and inviting, plus the whole place is enhanced by the natural light. Enjoy the secret garden in the back . Summary : quick service of delicious food and extraordinary espresso drinks in a friendly, comfortable space.

Delicious empanadas and guava treats! We decided to stop by for lunch and are so glad we did - recommend going earlier in the day so you can have your pick of all the options; when we went, there were a few options that were already sold out, but we were happy overall with what we got. You order up at the counter and can either take it to go or choose one of the seating areas (indoor or outdoor). All empanadas come with chimichurri sauce. What we got: - Yucca fries: lightly breaded, not too greasy, comes with 2 chimichurri sauces (one traditional and one mayonnaise based) - Smoked pulled pork empanada: we had wanted the brisket but the woman at the register suggested this since they were out of it - glad that we listened because this was my favorite of the empanadas that we tried; flavorful, not dry at all - Chicken empanada: a bit on the dry side but good with the chimichurri sauce - Beef mandioca: first time we've tried a deep fried empanada; my husband's favorite of the empanadas - the beef was well marinated - Guava tart: light pastry - great way to end the meal Wish we had more time in the area because we would definitely have gone back and tried more of their empanadas and coffee/yerba mate drinks!

K this was not our first pick but we wanted to go to 1st awakening which is half a block away but their wait was 2 hrs so we stumbled upon this cafe and we were lucky to. No long wait times. Outdoor seating in the back patio. The empanadas are sooo good. Best ones that I've had. So crispy and filled with vegetables and soy. The soy croquettes were so tender and creamy. We are vegetarian so that's what we got. got. I wanted to go for more seconds.

Enjoyed their back patio for a cafe break. Hubs ordered the Guatemalan spiced mocha and noted it was quite rich. I was happy to find that they have a Guarana Zero - hadn't had one in years. For quick snacks, we also ordered a beef empanada and beef sopa. Both the sopa and empanada were a good portion size. The sopa arrived hot - could be a bit dry but the chimichurri sauce was a good addition. The empanada was quite filling. The pastries/desserts looked interesting. I'd probably like to try some of those another time.

Delicious Vanilla Latte; excellent gluten free beef empanada! Perfect breakfast for a day in Monterey! Will definitely be coming back - reasonably priced and comfortable atmosphere.

Visited this place for breakfast. The empanadas are amazing and I loved the chimichurri sauce that came with each one. We got the brisket and ropa vieja empanadas and my partner got the cold brew. The vibes in the store were very chill, beautiful, and family-oriented. I liked how authentic the place looked. Service was nice and patient and were happy to clarify any questions we had! Please give this place a try!

    Desserts

Cafe Guarani is my go to place for empanadas on the Monterey peninsula. They are moist and tasty. I also highly recommend their vegan chili. Their coffee and pastries are delicious. They have an outdoor patio if you've got pets and plenty of indoor seating with comfy sofas. Love to chill in this place.

You can also order food and drinks from the counter. There was seating throughout the space which was in a historic building. I got a few goodies to try which included the blue cornmeal cookie, almond financier and an orange blossom tea cake. I also ordered their seasonal coffee which was a honey saffron latte. The cookies, financier and tea cake were all delicious. The latte wasn't overly sweet and was even a bit savory. It grew on me. There were a few sandwiches ordered by other patrons that looked scrumptious. If I hadn't eaten breakfast already, I would've ordered something substantial. Hopefully, I'll return to Monterey again. My 7- and 9-year-old didn't like the croissant sandwich because it had spicy mustard and sweet pickles. Unfortunately, they had run out of the other sandwiches, so our only other option was the spinach wrap, which I ordered but found bland and lacking flavor. We may have missed their more popular dishes because they stop serving them at 11 a.m. The tables inside also weren't clean. I chose this café because it was highly recommended on TikTok, but I probably wouldn't return. Cappuccino: 9/10 Fancy dessert: 8.5/10

Sometimes they've been lovely and bubbly, but for some reason this one blonde staff member never seems like she actually wants to help. I had some questions on summer specials since "refresher" doesn't tell me much and she kept telling me about other drinks instead and being super short. The whole interaction still only had to have taken 2 min with only one person (who had been there for a bit already and seems local/older) behind me. Yet the minute I paid, even though I apologized for the questions and tipped, she loudly and passive aggressively said "sorry for the wait" to the next person right in front of me and they both laughed right in front of my face. I read the other review of the person who said they'd been here a bunch and usually loved it and then had a bad interaction and are also not like the "usual" demo of PG - I am also a person of color who was made to feel the same way. Such a shame what one bad impression can leave. Multiple comments about this has to be more than a coincidence... I would come back only maybe if this person wasn't working but not going to go out of my way anymore

Lots of different merch to look at while waiting for order- coffee beans, olive oil, delicious looking bagged cookie, biscotti, hot dog buns and kitschy toys. Pros- service was friendly , helpful and patient! Pastries were top notch. We've been hitting bakeries all over Carmel and Monterey and liked these the best. The cream bun and earl grey bun were our favorites with the cardamom bun and chocolate croissant a close second and third. The dough on all these had great layers which has been missing in a lot of the pastries we've had while bakery hopping. The sun-dried tomato and cheese scone was the best savory scone I've ever had. Coffee- I got a latte with half serving of the miso caramel bc I was worried it would be too sweet (I'm a flat white gal). It tasted perfect and went well with the sweet pastries.
