Three words: Yerba mate latte. Excellent drink, it had this rich earthiness with a hint of bitter notes from the mate and a very smooth and mild sweetness. Amazing. Solid empanadas, monkey bread was good though a little dry. Still, wonderful spot, I look forward to coming back. Super friendly service and they serve the drinks in super cute, different shaped mugs. Also, GREAT spot if you need to do work. I didn't, but it's spacious enough to have people having conversations on one side and people doing work on the other side.

Super lovely ambiance inside & all the staff are very friendly and attentive. I always come here when I'm visiting Monterey! Plenty of seating and the food and drinks are some of the best in town :-)

What a lovely coffee shop! My decaf latte was perfect, and my breakfast empanada was tasty. The staff was super friendly too. I can't wait to come back.

Gluten free options attracted our attention. The rest of the menu, the coffee beverages, and the pastry case took it up a whole 'nother level to fantastico! Delicious empanada options to match your preferences. We were greeted warmly by the team decked out in Paraguayan national football team jerseys (soccer, not American football). Ordering at the counter was quick, easy, no line you don't want to stand in. Table delivery was timely. We enjoy the decor of Paraguayan flags and cultural wall art. The colors are warm and inviting, plus the whole place is enhanced by the natural light. Enjoy the secret garden in the back . Summary : quick service of delicious food and extraordinary espresso drinks in a friendly, comfortable space.

I loved the guava tart from this cafe, it was not too sweet and paired well with my iced vanilla coffee. The garden patio setting was a pleasant surprise, we could have stayed out there for hours if we had more time. I was unable to try the empanadas because sadly they fell over onto the floor when I was unpacking after I got home. More reason for me to go back again when I am in town. This place is a cool cafe and loved that they are LGBT friendly that is always a plus.

Delicious Vanilla Latte; excellent gluten free beef empanada! Perfect breakfast for a day in Monterey! Will definitely be coming back - reasonably priced and comfortable atmosphere.

We came here as a quick stop before heading to the aquarium - it's just around the corner so it was really convenient. We ordered the dulce de leche latte with oat milk and it was really good and super rich. The brisket empanada is 5/5 - HIGHLY recommend. The ham & cheese was also good with a white creamy cheese. We also ordered the pulled pork and beef. The pastries were good too! We got the guava pastry, chocolate chip cookie, and mini alfajors - would def recommend these too. They were the perfect size, light, and the dulce de leche filling was the perfect amount of sweetness. Chill, earthy vibe. Plenty of seating. Cute spot! Little pricey at $10 per empanada. But they were tasty!

Delicious empanadas and guava treats! We decided to stop by for lunch and are so glad we did - recommend going earlier in the day so you can have your pick of all the options; when we went, there were a few options that were already sold out, but we were happy overall with what we got. You order up at the counter and can either take it to go or choose one of the seating areas (indoor or outdoor). All empanadas come with chimichurri sauce. What we got: - Yucca fries: lightly breaded, not too greasy, comes with 2 chimichurri sauces (one traditional and one mayonnaise based) - Smoked pulled pork empanada: we had wanted the brisket but the woman at the register suggested this since they were out of it - glad that we listened because this was my favorite of the empanadas that we tried; flavorful, not dry at all - Chicken empanada: a bit on the dry side but good with the chimichurri sauce - Beef mandioca: first time we've tried a deep fried empanada; my husband's favorite of the empanadas - the beef was well marinated - Guava tart: light pastry - great way to end the meal Wish we had more time in the area because we would definitely have gone back and tried more of their empanadas and coffee/yerba mate drinks!

Visited this place for breakfast. The empanadas are amazing and I loved the chimichurri sauce that came with each one. We got the brisket and ropa vieja empanadas and my partner got the cold brew. The vibes in the store were very chill, beautiful, and family-oriented. I liked how authentic the place looked. Service was nice and patient and were happy to clarify any questions we had! Please give this place a try!

Enjoyed their back patio for a cafe break. Hubs ordered the Guatemalan spiced mocha and noted it was quite rich. I was happy to find that they have a Guarana Zero - hadn't had one in years. For quick snacks, we also ordered a beef empanada and beef sopa. Both the sopa and empanada were a good portion size. The sopa arrived hot - could be a bit dry but the chimichurri sauce was a good addition. The empanada was quite filling. The pastries/desserts looked interesting. I'd probably like to try some of those another time.

Pricey. Yucca fries $12, empanadas $10 6 of us, breakfast togo total cost $80+, we can get better breakfast from a sit down restaurant nearby. The interior is pretty, the drinks, empanadas and bakery were mediocre. We support local businesses but we don't want to be overpaying for something like this.

Unique and amazing interior that compliments their food! Dulce de leche latte was spectacular and their spiced mocha was delicious as well. Just. Look. At. This. Empanada.... Impeccable work and the chimichurri sauce was banging. Service was nice and asked what milk I wanted

Found these folks at the Tuesday night farmers market. Wasn't able to try the empanadas then, so came to the restaurant. The gluten free/dairy free empanada was delicious! Also had the yucca fries and they were amazing. After lunch we got hot drinks from the bar. Delicious hot chocolate and the foam decor on top was gorgeous.

It's like an unobtainable quest but whenever I have the chance to fill that empty void, I do so by randomly sampling. So what makes a good empanada? To me, I look for a buttery and flaky outer shell. This should not be overly oily or dense. The dough ratio should not overpower the filling and the empanada should be able to hold the stuffed contents well. I personally gravitate towards savory fillings which should be moist but not soggy. Best Artisan Empanadas menu offers a long list of drinks ranging from espresso, teas, lattes, frappes, smoothies, and alcoholic drinks. The empanadas come in savory and sweet options. These can be purchases as is or served with sides, turning the item into a full blown meal. There are 4 different salads available for those who want a healthier alternative. As a quick snack and first attempt of trying out BAE, my sister and I made the purchase of: *Mango Tropical Shaker *Chicken & Mushroom Empanada *Traditional Beef Empanada *Argentinian Chimichurry Sauce The empanadas are amazing when it comes to the dough standpoint. Bae has the recipe down to a T and will make even the toughest eater a fan! The chicken and mushroom empanada was exceptionally delicious- creamy, flavorful, and very tasty. I would have easily grabbed another if we didn't already have plans for our next bite. The traditional beef empanada was good but the raisins totally threw me off. The plump, overly sweet raisins weren't a good combo with the salty olives according to my tastebuds. Again, this was still very doable but I made sure to remove each raisin I came across. The mango tropical shaker was okay, just a little too sweet for me. 5/5 stars for BAE's empanadas. I eagerly look forward to trying the panzerotto [pizza], chorizo, and assorted breakfast empanadas. Parking is disastrously busy so come here with patience- it'll be worth all the hassle. I promise!

The flavors in both the Beef and Lomo was perfect with the seasoning and what was surprising is the Mango Chutney which made it even more tastier; it had a sweet but tangy profile. The peach and blueberry as a sweet treat was a perfect close out to our lunch.

The Good: * Large shared parking lot * Friendly service * Covered outdoor dining * The crust of the empanadas was buttery, flaky, and delicious. All the fillings were good, but you have to try the Hawaiian filling! It was truly fantastic and had us wishing that's all we'd ordered. * Guava Finger has the same perfect crust and tasty guava jam--I could eat a dozen of these and come back for more. *oink oink* * Carissa really enjoyed their lentil soup. I didn't try it, so I can't comment. The Meh: * I kind of prefer the chunks of meat in Peruvian empanadas to the ground meat in Colombian ones, but that's just a personal preference. It was still delicious, so at the end of the day, it's all academic. The Ugly: * No indoor dining, and outdoor dining is limited to only a handful of seats. Conclusion: We've been on the hunt for the best empanadas in the South Bay, and we finally found them.

Parking is sparse in front of the restaurant but paid parking is nearby. We entered and wow, the place was busy. Not overwhelming but lots of people in the indoor dining area enjoying their food. The employees were kind and helpful, we probably were the only people that didn't speak Spanish well in the restaurant but that wasn't an issue, SCW got the number 2 combo, I got the mole. Also ordered an appetizer. Seated and waited about 10 minutes and our order came out. Everything was freaking amazing. Such great flavors and so fresh. Even SCW who doesn't necessarily gravitate towards Mexican food made nom nom nom sounds the whole time. The mole was incredible, the best I've ever had. I felt safe to eat here thinking it was more on the authentic side of Mexican food, but I have to remind myself to look at the reviews closely before deciding on eating at a place. I had ordered 1 Gordita, 1 Burrito Gordo (Asada), and 1 Huarache. The Gordita had probably to be one of the worst Gorditas I ate in my entire life. The tortilla was very hard and dry, practically snapping off when I took a piece off. The next was the meat... very, very dry and quite bland. I don't know how this restaurant cooks their meat, but I'm assuming they overcooked it by the lack of moisture. The cheese inside was also disappointing, not much flavor to it nor had a fresh taste to it. I tried saving the dryness of the Gordita by adding salsa to it, that didn't help at all. The green salsa wasn't spicy (or at least had a kick to it) and didn't really taste like tomatillos, so I tried adding the red salsa to see if it was any different, not really. If you closed your eyes, you wouldn't really tell the difference between the two. Now moving onto our next dish, the burrito. I'll keep this one short. Asada was bland, dryer than a dessert, and even with the salsa and sour cream on it, couldn't save my mouth from the dryness I experienced. So if you read this review of mine, thank you, and I totally understand how hard it is to make Mexican food in this area considering a lot of the ingredients needed aren't easy to come by or the cuts of meat, so if you ever feel like eating Mexican remind yourself what can you eat here that you know I'll taste good.
