I shop here before anyplace else. That's because their prices are so much lower and the place is fun to see unusual or interesting products. The cashiers are nice and the place is clean. It's not as big as other locations but it has most of what I need. Plenty of parking in the strip-mall shopping center near Laguna Lake. Had an employee by the name of ELLIOT call my family member an "animal" because she was opening the product she had already BOUGHT. Complained to his manager, Brian who was actually kind and receptive and wanted to remedy the issue by having us contact the store owner, Brooke. Brooke ultimately didn't call us and we ended up having to call the store a week after waiting for her call only for her to be say that Elliot "just jokes like that". Brooke even tried to deny that Elliot has made rude comments like that to customers in the past even though Brian the manager himself stated that Elliot has a history of it. Elliot has worked there for years and this isn't the first time he's made rude comments. What normal person who is OK in the head jokes like that with loyal customers? Is he mental? Yes obviously. Is Brooke useless? Yes obviously. Brooke, you clearly don't care about your customers and are you're running an unprofessional establishment with employees like Elliot. You clearly knew what we were saying was true because otherwise you would not have made excuses for Elliot by stating "he just jokes like that". You're full of it. read more

While I've only been here twice, my friend is a local and goes 1-2 times a week for her family groceries. She's on a first name basis with a handful of the staff and they greet her happily. While she has most of the store memorized- when we needed help finding something there was someone readily available. They play good music, have good prices, and lots of parking. read more

Be sure to check expiration on any meat you wish to purchase. There have been situations where meat has been left for sale, the worst being over a month past expiration on ground beef. I've noticed the turn around for employees is the most likely due to poor management, and failure to hold onto decent staff. read more

We've needed Village Fresh in the Central Coast for such a long time! This place should be packed to the gills with customers every day. If it's not, shame on you! It is a 5-star experience to shop here each and every time. The quality of the foods in every department are exceptional. The deli department offers foods you can't find in the mass markets. Same with meat, produce, and bakery. And the prices are the same as Albertson's and Von's -- if only a pinch more for items that are exceptional. You will get superior choices not offered in our other markets. And the employees are helpful, happy, and engaged! I'm a fan. Grocery Outlet isn't a place I shop at home but we stopped by this one to get some beer for a trip. Because no one wants to pay $14 fir a beer at a hotel when you can pick up a six pack for half that price. Who knew Grocery Outlet stocked a variety of craft beer and at reasonable prices. One could almost say cheap. If you like Firestone Walker beers, thus is the place to go if you can't make it to the brewery. A six pack of Firestone Nitro Merlin Stout fir $8.99 - that's only $1.49 a can!!! $9.99 fir a six pack of Firestone Hazy IPA. Also grabbed some snacks. Didn't check out the rest of the store so can't comment on that. Payton, the cashier, and the bagger (didn't catch his name - tall, slim older guy) were friendly. There was a lady stocking the refrigerated section that was so kind to get me an item I couldn't teach. In general, I have come to love all markets like this. It always comes down to plenty of luck, good timing, lots of reading labels for expirations or total fat, and then sometimes you hit "treasure". It could be a big hunk of cheese, cheese doodles, or a huge bag of Quinoa from Canada. Compared to SLO's market, things here do not look as fresh, but they do have some other interesting stuff. I did "score" some Granny Goose Cheese Puffs which was pretty good. In a way it is like a tiny Costco & you often come one time & the next time it is gone. As in other markets, it takes time to find the bargains & avoid stale cookies & stuff. Always check the dates. Between here & the nearby Big Lots...you can find some stuff at good prices. read more

I buy almost all my groceries here. The owner and staff are helpful and friendly and I get incredible deals. Other than basics it's better not to go with a shopping list. Instead find their daily bargains and extra incredible deals and plan to stock up when you find those deals. I save hundreds of dollars a month on my groceries by doing this. read more

Low on bread though enough to keep at least the pricey ones on the shelves. Had Osos dozen eggs for $3.39, no 18 count available, did have larger quantity. NO PUBLIC RESTROOMS to me is immoral as a grocery store that wants customer to come, shop and give you money. Not only that, YOU are a burden on the surrounding establishments who are thoughtful. Grocery outlet is great! The employees and staff are friendly. There are a lot of rude people on here claiming they don't require masks. Just a reminder. The use of wearing masks are not a law it's a guidance. I really appreciate that there is one grocery store in town that I can shop at without one if I choose to. If you don't like that go to smart and final or Trader Joe's where they treat people horribly if they choose not to wear a mask. You have the choice to go anywhere you want but those who don't want to wear a mask or can't for health reasons are running out of options for where they can go. read more

So this store surprised me. It really has some great deals! You have to know prices because some of them are about the same but.... so what? The deals are what make it worth the drive from Paso. The employees are very helpful and I love their bags. As some of you may not know unless you live in the area... we pay for our bags now but I don't mind paying ten cents for these! They are actually strong and re-usable and kind of cute! Alcohol, cheese and produce are the best deals plus I buy candy for our lobby here and the prices are better than driving all the way to Costco! They even give the Dollar store a run for their money. Plus... I know I mentioned it but I have not run into one employee who didn't act thrilled that I was there! Now that's the kind of customer service that is hard to find anymore! I very much enjoy shopping at Grocery Outlet for a number of reasons which includes its friendly staff. Perhaps the most enjoyable experience I have there is discussing wines with Jim, Grocery Outlet's dependable go-to guy for wine. Jim is always ready to help. His knowledge of wine is excellent and he is honest too; if he doesn't know something about a particular wine of interest he will let the customer know and go out of his way to find out what he can about this or that bottle of wine or winery. But it is his personable way of being in the world that keeps us going back to Grocery Outlet. Case-in-point: yesterday we discussed a cabernet Sauvignon produced by Xanthus Winery. I was a literature major in college and commented that the name of the winery shares the name of a horse, one of four owned by Diomedes, in Greek literature. He knew of Diomedes. The label bears the image of a horse but there is also a river in Greek mythology by that name. Yesterday I purchased a bottle of Buena Vista cabernet for $12.00; today I decided to return to Grocery Outlet and purchase a bottle of Xanthus' cab for $17.00. The discount extended to a customer brought the total to $15.51, a great savings to us. The same bottle of wine by year and by price sells online for $30. The receipt reads I saved $3.60, but my savings was more like $15.00. All considered, what keeps me returning to Grocery Outlet is not only money saved but the staff and Jim in the wine department is a great example of sales person and customer relations. I highly commend Grocery Outlet for hiring Jim to represent Grocery Outlet's wine department and those of us who frequent the store. Keep him! So I am going to give it one star because the manager is a brat, I was trying to buy alcohol (I'm 21) and my boyfriend was standing next to me (he's 19) and they carded me and the manager takes one look at my boyfriend and asks for his ID, when I'm the one buying it. First time it's ever happened to me, but anyway. She then yells after me and says "sorry too young" after showing I'm 21... I'm never shopping there for alcohol again. Super bad customer service and she was super rude to my boyfriend. I'm beyond pissed, why the hell would you card my boyfriend when I'm the one buying it for me, the 21 year old. When it comes time to start noting the similarities and differences among our local grocery outlets, yours truly has become quite the dilettante. And what made me exclaim to myself "they all should be doing this!" was what I saw towards the back of the store... I found the section of random household items most can live without but seem to always find something in this pile to take home anyway, presented in a way that made sense to moi. Other locations have an aisle or two dedicated to a housewares department. Four by four sets of pegged and shelved items that seem to belong where they're at, but then look up and view the hot mess. Carefully organized boxes of more houseware incidentals, that weren't part of the latest plan-o-gram (or P.O.G., as it's known to those brave souls who are in the spitfires of hell disguised as a job in retail, as I once was), so they don't have a fixed address and nowhere to go, so they go UP! Almost making it to 5'5", I know I can't reach that top shelf without a stool or stepladder if something atop that POG skyscraper is of interest to me to climb for. This is not an issue in Atascadero. Everything has a place and that place is reachable to the average heighted shopper who wishes to not climb the shelf or ask someone for help to get it down. However, I find that the placement of boxes of hair color is in a rather odd spot, it lives on a metal shelf that's practically in the doorway of what I believe is a stock room. But hey, as I've noted in prior reviews of grocery outlet, each one has its own aura of uniqueness. Stellar Customer Service and a nicely fitted Wine section also lives here, as it does within its Outlet counterparts. And there's a section of "last chance" wine bottles and a section dedicated solely to local wines. (The last chance section saved me after slo ran out of a certain wine my parents like that I almost didn't get them for their anniversary) read more

My wife and I really enjoy going to Grocery Outlet. Most of the employees are very nice. As other reviewers mention, it's a lot of fun discovering many new and different items every time. We just need to keep in mind that only a few particular items (other than basic produce) can be found again next time we're there. They have a good selection of organic foods. Another Yelper said they go to Grocery Outlet first, before going to another grocery store. We fully agree since Grocery Outlet's prices are generally way lower than elsewhere. read more

And the prices are AMAZING! $7 ice cream at Vons....$2.50 at Grocery Outlet! Don't let the 'bargain' idea push you away! They have great quality products at great prices! The only drawback is that you sometimes need to check expiration dates, but they often post signs with products that are close to expiring so you are fully aware before you make your purchase. What's better than a great wine selection? A great wine selection at inexpensive prices, and employees who will tell you what's good! Ever since this store opened, when my mother and I visit each other, I have ended up with some really outstanding wine for under $10/bottle. (Most are $4-5.) Feel free to ask anyone working near the wine department for recommendations - they seem to have tried a lot of it and can make suggestions. (Mom just visited and brought me a Cab-Shiraz for $4, which has a lot of fruit and vanilla flavor. YUM.) As for the rest of the store, it's fairly new, so it's clean and pretty. I've found Gertie's artichoke tapenade (a delicious addiction) here for $3 or $4, some really good rosemary sourdough rolls for $2, and good deals in the freezer department, such as a Stouffer's Cajun shrimp alfredo for $3 a bag (two servings). Can't go wrong with that. Yay for Grocery Outlet! They just opened one up closer to my home, but it's only accessible by car (which I do not have) and the wine selection isn't as good as this one. So whenever I visit Mom, I'll definitely continue to stop in here to stock up on wine and edibles. read more

Yesterday, I was on a mission to find large garden pots and I remembered seeing gorgeous, modern, large pots at Grocery Outlet, so I went. While looking at the pots, one of the staff offered to help. Cue Mattais (sorry about spelling). He not only went into the back and found more pots so I would have 9 total, he met me at the register and helped through the entire process. He was so helpful, it made my day. During that same visit, a gentleman in the wine section shared about an amazing $5.99 wine to try. Not only did their great service push my purchases to exceed $400 BUT I will go out of my way to support a business that has such incredible value and an amazing team! Of the five bit grocery stores in Atascadero (there may be more depending on how you count) this store has all the basic goods at some of the best (I think the best in many cases) prices. I get as many basics here as possible, then follow up with a stop at one of the giant stores that have a bazillion items. The grocery outlet meets my needs for lots of things and is worth the stop. Before I moved to Atascadero I was used to the dimly lit Grocery Outlet back in Fairfield, with the dingy interior, and employees who looked bored and half-dead inside. Flies would circle that GO, the food wasn't exactly fresh and most everything was torn or falling apart. That being said, the Grocery Outlet in Atascadero is a breath of fresh air. Granted, the same almost expired products riddle the store, but the atmosphere is completely different. The interior is bright, clean and the aisles are wheelchair-friendly. The layout doesn't have you racing around the store either which is a perk. The employees are nice, friendly and very helpful. They even offer to help which is astounding to me. No flies, the food is fresh, and they've got amazing deals on avocados. I will definitely be coming back here. I mean seriously, who can pass up a deal nowadays? read more
