I went in on one of their 20% off sales recently and had an unexpected "sale" experience. I purchased a couple of items; one had a price tag of $48.73, the other had a price tag of $7.99. If I do the math correctly, $48.73+$7.99=$56.72+8.75% tax=$61.68 total. I thought with the 20% off, everything was going to come out to $41.41 plus tax. So, what did they do? The cashier said that they will get the lowest priced item and take the 20% off of that, NOT on the $48.73 with the $7.99. Rip off! Glad Lowe's is my favorite store and rarely shop at ACE. I frequent Miners for my yard, home and garden needs. They offer superior customer service from the time you enter the door. They have a solid variety of hardware and garden supplies. Not a ton of commercial building supplies or lumber but more than adequate for homeowner needs. Prices are fair. They offer great coupons and club incentives. Not big box prices, but not gouging either. The only knock is parking. It's horrible, but if you avoid Saturday morning you're fine. Great business for many years. read more

Our experiences here have been mostly positive. The important things are there, such as: - courteous, helpful staff members; - reasonable prices; - safety measures in place, and more crucially, they're being adhered to. The inventory isn't always what you might find at Home Depot or Lowe's, but then again, those places don't come close to the level of friendly, knowledgeable service you'll find at Miner's. A specific recommendation, however, to take their customer service up to the next level: they really need to improve on special order follow-up. If, for instance, they take down your out-of-stock product request, as well as your name and phone number, with the promise to set aside the requested item when it's back in stock, AND to call you to let you they've done so, then they should. Waiting to get a call they promised would come in 5-7 days that doesn't, then going in 10-12 days later to find said item hanging on their shelves, isn't just disappointing, it falls short of what otherwise could've been an outstanding customer service experience. And, since this has occurred on more than one occasion, it bears mentioning. read more

This is an upgrade to Home Depot and Lowe's. The quality of their products are a little better. Their nursery is waaaay better! Customer service is...ok. Usually the older guys just glare at me which I'm obliged to reciprocate. The younger employees are cordial. Their prices are higher than Home Depot but I expect that as it's locally owned. Also the selection is limited as the stores are smaller but they surprisingly have what I need usually. I like coming to Miners I just don't have the income to be too frequent. read more

Ace hardware stores are always the best no matter where you are because they still feel like a local hardware store, and Miner's here in A-Town is no exception. The employees are friendly and know where things are in the store. If an individual employee doesn't have expertise in the specific project you're working on, there's usually another one on hand who has some, or at least has some creative ideas. You might get a wider selection at Home Depot or Lowe's, and there are times you have to go there because you're looking for something outside of Miner's inventory, but for most hardware needs, I wouldn't go anywhere but Miners if I have the choice. read more

Very poor customer service. I asked if they could cut an automotive key that has a chip in it. I was told that under normal conditions they could but they would not do it because of Covid as they have to go into a customers car to complete the job. That's fine. But since they won't do it can you refer me to someone who can or will. She told me she cannot give me any referrals as that is against policy. So they won't do the job for me because of Covid and yet refused to refer me to someone who will. I will never go to Ace hardware store again if that's their corporate policy. I ordered a TV console from Wayfair. Lo and behold, it was missing two necessary cam screws. I'm an impatient person and I hate waiting for things to be delivered. I figured I would go to Home Depot for some. They only had one size and it was the size I didn't need. Next, I called Orchard Supply Hardware. I asked for a cam screw. "A can opener?" No, a C-A-M screw. "Well, I can't go look right now". I didn't feel like driving to Paso in case they didn't have any. My last option was Miner's. I called and asked for a cam screw and was transferred to Jerry in hardware. I asked Jerry if he had any cam screws that were smaller than the 6mm x 45.5mm. He told me they had a few sizes and if I had one to compare it to, he would help me look. I said I'm on my way. "Right now?". Yes, right now. "I'll meet you in hardware". When I arrived Jerry met me at the door wearing his "in training" vest (this is very important, trust me). We walked to hardware together where he patiently and pleasantly compared the cam screws in stock to the one I brought in. He helped me pick out 4 that were nearly identical. Fraternal cam screws, if you will. I checked out, brought them home, and was successfully able to put together the TV console with no issues. Jerry was so helpful, pleasant, and sweet. He helped me avoid having to wait for cam screws and satisfying the part of me that craves instant gratification. I think it's time for Jerry to hang up his "in training" vest because he is amazing. read more

I stopped in here looking for some plants for my garden. I talked to someone that claimed to be the "Garden Expert". He told me he had 40 years of nursery experience so I asked him about the availability of two common plants by their botanical name. He said he was not good at identifying plants by their botanical name and proceeded to look up the plants on his phone. I even had to spell the name for him. Somebody with plant knowledge needs to get in there, clean out all the dead and dying plants and set a standard of quality for this nursery. 40 years of nursery experience and they don't know a Cornus is a Dogwood...Really? read more

Atascadero Miners has this uniquely odd layout that I'm attempting to describe as plain as I can and am failing miserably... Their nursery is to the side of the parking lot with its own little shed like walkway entrance. I've never seen a checkout open in this little space, but I always venture in at odd hours and or odd weather. Smaller square footage than their big brother in SLO, they utilize their space well, just like their little brother in Los Osos. I've been in for the funniest things in the plumbing department, hardware, and tools departments, and am always offered help instantly. (I accepted help while lost in nuts and bolts land, thank you to the nice gentleman who helped me find my way)... Now a snippet of my experience in the nursery: I had planned to just get a small bag of potting soil, when my wallet yelled at me to get the bigger bag for the same price. My wallet forgot to tell me to get a cart, so in a darkened downpour, I flashed back to the days a lifetime ago when I lugged bags of soil like this daily, and just huffed one up to walk out. The young lady working in the dept I hadn't even seen yet, offers to take it from me and load it to my car, (I'll also note that she was at least 20 years younger than me ) I pointed my car out to her and told her I'd be ok cuz it was raining and close to closing but she insisted. I got a tag for technical purposes, drove my car up after paying, and she loaded it into my car, where it stayed until the rain went elsewhere. read more

This place is awesome. I went in here two times with different projects and they were so helpful. First I went in because I had a fitting that was leaking on my gas line for my instant hot shower that I use when I go camping. I thought I was going to have to buy the hose and regulator. Bryan took it apart with help and put new tape on it and now it does not leak. Saved me $40 bucks. My second project was an install of a water heater in my horse trailer and I had no idea what fittings I needed to put it together. Tony and Dave helped me find exactly what I needed to set it up. If it wasn't for them I would have had to pay a fortune at the trailer place to get it worked on. If course I decided that I am a lousy plumber because it took me forever to get the work done. On the other hand there is a sense of satisfaction on doing the work yourself. I have been in to Miners a million times and they are always extremely helpful so I figured they deserved a review. Today I went to pick up some screens they made for my house, and wandered through the garden center (because it's beautiful and I can't help it) and was helped by Jilly, who was super friendly, super helpful, and rooted around for her favorite samples of the ornamental grasses I loved. $100 unintentional purchase, but worth it for the experience alone, plus I got plants out of the deal.
