Seems to never fail. Every time I need something to fix a problem I get it at Blakes. Wonderful local hardware store. Experienced and helpful personnel that always greet me with a "can I help you?". You don't get that service at Lowe's or Home Depot. I always stop there to find that one thing that I have to spend hours at the big box stores looking for with no help. In/out in minutes. I like these kind of small and local hardware stores, which most (if not all) True Value shops are. It really doesn't look like much from the front, but it's pretty impressive inside. Sure, it's a little pricey. Sure, they have less SKU's. But you may just find some needed item that the Lowe's and Home Depot's of the world don't carry. When I need one or two things, I come here. Please let me know in advance about NO RETURNS ON HOBBY ITEMS AT PURCHASE. Bought a kite at Blake's for hubby's birthday. Turns out it's too advanced for us and had difficulty with the strings. Instructions were horrible. Learned today Blake's won't take the return. Very disappointing. From a local that always considers supporting the little guy! read more

These guys are the best! Shower handles went south. Cold water would not turn off (not even close to good). At the first shop, I knew more that the guy in plumbing, and I don't know anything. 2nd shop didn't have the parts (older home), but suggested Blakes. Big, big win! They had only one of the 2 parts I needed, but the guy (don't know his name but I wish I did!) proceeded to rebuild one of the broken valves. He talked me thru the replacement process, down to the exact tools I needed. Back at the house, and it was installed and running in 10 minutes. Normally, you'd better know what you want when you go shopping at a hardware store. Bring your help with you, 'cause you ain't finding any! Blakes staff was excellent, fast, efficient. Blakes True Value Hardware - Hardware Stores Near Me - Paso Robles, California

When I called I asked if they can copy a car key, the lady who answered the phone said yes so I drove the 20 miles to the store. However when I got there I was informed that they can't copy a key for a Toyota (one of the most common cars on the road) when I asked the manager "Brett" if he would like to train his people to ask the proper questions before having a customer drive 20 miles to be disappointed he replied that I should have asked specifically if they could copy a toyota key. Like it was my fault! After giving up to a lost cause I hope I can save a few people a trip for nothing if you have a toyota they can not copy a key for you. I just don't understand why that wasn't brought up on the phone before I drove the whole way there? In conclusion I suppose they do copy keys for vehicles but just not for a toyota once again a very common vehicle. read more

I truly believe this is the best home town hardware store I've ever been to!!! GARRET is the "the man"!!! I bring in broken pieces of refrigerator door hinges from the bar I work at, or a busted piece of a light bulb hinge. And he always takes time to fix it for me!! I even brought a metal lever from an old metal fruit juicer and he figured out what pieces would work and fixed it for me. The most mind-blowing part is that I'm only charged for the hardware used to fix it. Talk about customer service!!!! I have no personal relationships to anyone there and the treat me like family everytime I come in distraught, and wanted something fixed that I need for my job. Well it's a hardware store, it's a true value hardware store, if you want to know the chain. It's a small store, and everybody seems to be busy doing something else. I found the part I needed I thought the price was pretty pricey, but I guess that's the way it is. It took the money and I'm on my way and that's my story. I went in on New Year's Eve, looking for a battery for my key fob, and I had no idea where to start. The very nice young man who were working the counter immediately asked me if I needed help and I let him know i needed a battery for my key fob and he was so awesome! He asked to see my keys, pointer over the counter to the exact aisle and asked if he could just put the new battery in for me. He was more than amazing by helping out. Worst customer service. Not knowing operating hours I walked through the door and was greeted by a blonde female, who had the demeanor of a gulag prison guard, with the the words "three minutes". Nothing else. I quickly located the part I need and proceeded to the check stand only to find my not so friendly comrade. She rang me up and said "$9.69". Not another word. No thank you, no kiss my posterior, nothing. I like to patronize local businesses but Blake's apparently does not care for my business so I will avoid returning. read more

It's hard to compare a small hardware like this to a big box store, but in terms of prices, Blakes is generally higher. BUT... I'd much rather pay a few bucks more and know that every time I go, I get great customer service. The cashiers are friendly. And when you walk in the door, you're greeted and the employees help you. They don't randomly point somewhere; they walk you over to the correct aisle and show you just what you're looking for. It's a fun mom-and-pop kind of store to walk around in on a lazy Saturday. As a female, I appreciate their employees never talking down to me like I'm a dummy. I'd recommend Blakes to any Do-It-Yourselfer! read more

Super impressive hardware section. They stock stuff I usually have to get from McMaster. Socket head, countersunk, pan head, stainless, zinc, or chrome, on and on! Four different styles of lock nuts, high or low profile. They even carry sae AND use washers, most stores don't differentiate anymore and you're stuck buying a smaller washer size than your screw for good fit. I've given up on the big 'Hardware' stores, they barely carry any of it! So glad there is a local store that stocks this stuff. Great staff too. read more

Blake's Hardware in Paso Robles is the last Honest establishment in Paso. Brent and his knowledgeable staff are fruitful with years of experience and trust. This afternoon I went to Blake's, the store I have counted on for 30+ years, and find they don't want my business anymore. I guess that's it, because it was an employee, turns out, that refused to mask up when I asked. He moved toward my aggressively, getting closer without a mask. He was saying loudly that he didn't have to put on a mask and wasn't going to. Turns out he works there. There was no manager stepping up. It was a little scary, this over-reaction to the request that he respect my health. So goodbye, Blake's. read more

I have owned multiple properties in Paso Robles, with that comes repairs, replacements and various upgrades. My DIY abilities are severely lacking, therefore I rely on the expertise of hardware employees. Blakes is absolutely the perfect store for me. Service is professional, prompt, and good ol' home town helpful and friendly. Diane and Garrett are just a couple of long time employees quick to help with a friendly no nonsense attitude. Brent Goodwin, The President and GM can also be found in the store, with sleeves rolled right up! With growth comes large "big box" stores to cater to the masses. Unfortunately, Customer Service suffers, employees with little to no experience related to your project. Occasionally, i visit such stores only to regret due to long wait time, minimal assistance from employees, if i can find someone to help! Blakes has an incredible variety of quality materials, parts and tools to start and complete your projects both large and small. With awesome, helpful staff. I stopped in early Wednesday, Sept 13 to get shorter bolts for the platform walker that my mother needs to use because of 2 broken wrists. I was due to pick her up at rehab & bring her home later that day. Even though my equipment was new, the bolts were sticking out too far and could snag something, including my mother. The staff was kind enough to see the problem, supply just the right bolts and then actually fix it with new shorter bolts. They went above and beyond in service. They have always been helpful each time I have been in. read more
