Went to Trader Joe's in Templeton today and picked up a couple items. I've been there a few times and there's always something unique to run across. It's a nice store in an easily accessible location. Parking, as with every TJ's I've shopped at, is horrible but the food and produce is fresh and reasonably priced. I'd shop there more often if it was closer to Paso Robles, where I live, but I'll save it as a fun stop when I'm in the area. read more

I am from out of town. Whenever I want something specific, I always look for a Trader Joe's near me when I travel. This time, my sister wanted some fresh flowers. So, pick up the map and voila! There is a Trader Joe's in Templeton, that was few miles from our AirBnb in Paso Robles. The roadway was kind of tricky to get us here. Parking lot was kind of small for a Saturday crowd. The floral selection was plenty, from low end to high end for either potted plants or cut flowers. They seemed to be fresh and perky. I bought a few snacks for the road. She got a couple dozen of flowers. She was showing off her ikebana skill to some partygoers at a nearby vineyard. We didn't interact with any employees. It was a quick grab trip. If I remember where it was, I will definitely be back. read more

If you are looking for, yet, another great Trader Joe's -- here ya go. Well-stocked inventory, and cashiers all open at each station with very little lines makes a great shopping experience! Service is particularly a stand-out. There's always several people restocking the shelves, and thus, always available to help find something or answer questions. I'm definitely in that upper half percentile who ask (and am a little "pest"-cadarian), "Do you still carry..." or "Can you help me find...". Very satisfying, even for little ol' me. They had so many seasonal bags this morning, yet still had a ridiculous "2 per customer" limit. I read that other stores in other areas allow 10 per customer or at least 4 at a time so that you can get all the colors at once. It's meant to be a Easter item, would make great gifts if you could buy more than 2. So much for that plan. :( read more

I wasn't going to review this place because all TJ's are great but when I saw that they had an olive tree for sale, I had to give it a 5 star review. They carry the same new release items in my neighborhood which is also published on their online flyer so I was glad to see that I have access to the same items anywhere I go. I was pleasantly surprised to see them have more of a garden variety section inside and outside the store. I missed getting the olive trees when they came to my town and I've been calling the Westlake Village, Thousand Oaks, and Camarillo stores to see if they were ever going to bring back them back with no luck. When I stumbled onto this store and saw them, I was overjoyed. You never know what you're going to find and I'm so glad I came. The young guy who rang me up was nice and parking was pretty hard to find. It's either easy to park or difficult. I've been at this shopping center for other stores on various days and parking is either available or it's not. It's a holiday weekend so that might be the reason why it's a hot or miss. read more

Local Take: Parking is a huge hassle, since they share a tiny lot with Pier 46, J&R Meats, etc. TJ's are a good place to get a decent salad/drinks to go with the protein of other places. Even though I am local & usually have a good sense of direction, I passed by Rossi Rd., not once, but twice. There is NO SIGN on Vineyard & Rossi. I first wandered off a few pleasant miles down Vineyard into the countryside & then somehow turned too soon & somehow was in a residential area. As opposed to the Main St. side of Templeton, it is not nearly as obvious. I wrong figure that I did not need GPS, since it is so close to the 101. It is not visible from the 101, nor Vineyard, nor Rossi until you get to the parking area. You feel kind of dumb, when you get lost in your own county....but to be fair, I just spent half the day as a medical volunteer [MRC] at a local Mobile vaccine event, which are wonderful to do, but can be a bit challenging, since you not only have to worry about your clients, but also if anti-C-19 people show up & hand out misinformation fliers to people. Education is a critical part of volunteering & it feels so wonder to help. Actually the medical stuff is easy, but the setup, cleanup, & later clean up involve some significant physical effort. What we carry in, we need to carry out. Naturally, one wants to seek out some good eats after volunteering. You feel good, but are quite hungry. It is rather bizarre that you have this rather modern mini-mall in the middle of vast open areas, but have few signs, & little parking. It seems to have been designed as a mini-mall for only the nearby residential developments. Obviously, the city gov who signed off on this are fools not to allow for the inevitable influx of people off the 101. Corp TJ's obviously are rather clueless & should move this location to more the far more spacious areas of nearby Atascadero....some of which look more like a ghost town. The are some rather Xenophobic locals in what we call North County & this could be a result of this....so they want the bucks, but do not want outsiders....so "let's ignore the issue". That being said, while this particular TJ's is 2 TJ's away from where we live, I still rather enjoyed my brief visit & more so than the Pier [which had poor customer service & soggy Calamari], or J&R which did not stock what I wanted [but was kind enough to call their main store in Paso, which did]. To be fair, I went early afternoon on a weekday, so it was not at full capacity, but still the parking lot was totally full. TJ's was moderately busy. The lady who helped me look for local brewed produces was super nice and the store was well laid out and had a nice "feel". The selections where less than some larger TJ's [e.g. Santa Maria], but they were well curated & easy to find. If you happen to be in the area, it is not peak time, and you need TJ's stuff then it may be worth a stop, especially if you are local. The other two SLO county locations are almost always packed, but on the other hand, have far more parking within walking distance. Of course, in the age of COVID, if you are at risk, I really would not bother with any of our TJ's, unless you get there when they first open in the AM & wear a good mask....or have been vaccinated properly & your last shot was at least 2 weeks ago. Most places in our area are slacking off on measures which are premature at best....but what else is new? Obviously, in a smaller venue with many people, plus tourists from who knows where, there will be a higher risk for those who are susceptible. Sadly, as I was looking at the potential local products, including brewed items, it was rather sparse, but they did carry Templeton Whiskey, an odd cider or beer, but really not much from nearby vendors/farmers. TJ's could easily open 2+ more stores in SLO county & have those swamped as well. The parent company did open an Aldi in AG, but people are not as fond of that are they are of TJ's. While there are many TJ's products, I typically only go for a few things that no-one else carries, or there is a huge difference in price. Over the years/decades, many TJ products have disappeared or have shrunk in size....and many small packages/bottles are no longer bargains. Compared to local Farmers Markets, the fruits & veggies are way overpriced, but still generally cheaper than Whole Paycheck. We have found that their baked sweets are utterly horrid and almost cracked a tooth on stuff that should not be in it. read more

As one enters Trader Joe's, customers are always greeted by the flowers and plants populating the entrance of the store. It's always a pleasure to shop at this Trader Joe's. Their employees are very friendly and helpful. The store is clean, very well organized, and is constantly being restocked by the employees. They have a wide variety of Trader Joe's branded products, as well as unique & hard-to-find items. If one is unhappy with any Trader Joe's product, one can bring it back to the store for a refund of the purchase price. Besides the basic vegetables/fruits, kitchen & household needs/offerings, they offer an extensive selection of frozen appetizers, entrées and meals. Trader Joe's has a large craft beer section. One has the option of purchasing a single bottle or can to sample any of their many selections. This is a great feature for the customer, as one may not wish to purchase a full six-pack of an unfamiliar choice. They stock a relatively small selection of wines that range in the low to medium price point. One requirement of most Trader Joe's is insufficient parking; and this one does not disappoint. Parking can be difficult as the store is located in a small shopping center along with restaurants and other shops just off the 101 freeway. Trader Joe's requires customers to wear face coverings for entry & while shopping. We sincerely appreciate this policy as it helps to protect the health of employee's, the customer's and everyone's family members during this pandemic. read more

Marsha was my cashier. I asked her about when the pumpkin stuff was coming in, she didn't even bother to answer. She automatically said "it's still summer, it's too early"! I said well Albertsons has a whole section out already. She made a face and just shook her head. Wow, very rude. If she thinks it's too early fine but don't act like that with the customer. One of the best things while cruisin' down the Central Coast - is the need for a pit-stop to pick up some food/beverages, AND even a bathroom break. Conveniently right off the 101, this Trader Joe's in Templeton rocks! Despite the negative reviews I came across from what I had read, I found this location to be on par with the usual TJ's back home up north in the San Francisco Bay Area! I did kind of felt a little anxious & weird roaming around inside the store, due to seeing a much less diverse crowd of shoppers - however, everyone I have came across & crossed paths were civil, courteous, and respectful. I didn't feel anything "weird", and out of proportion - despite the current times that you know we are all experiencing. Having brought my own reusable bag with me, the greeter at the entrance acknowledged my presence, and DID mention to make sure that I put it down under the cart - which I simply did. I didn't think twice about it, since it was no big deal at all whatsoever! The store seemed smaller than the usual locations I regularly shop at back in the Bay Area, but this particular one was a welcome sight while on a road trip, since the last TJ's along Hwy 101 was way back in Morgan Hill in the southern portion of Santa Clara County in NorCal! Haha. The City of Salinas seriously NEEDS a Trader Joe's, since the closest locations would from them is all the way on the Monterey Peninsula! (Monterey and Pacific Grove, to be exact!) On the other hand, despite the small stature and interior of the Templeton location - don't let that deter you because they got all your essentials that you're looking for IN STOCK! Neat displays, and full shelves of your favorite products await ya'll if you're ever in the area, and couldn't wait to get to SLO for your TJ's goodies! This location is very easy to find, right off the Vineyard Drive exit, and offers ample parking within the strip mall that they're located in! On the whole, Trader Joe's has been good to us. Customer Service Always helpful, courteous, friendly and polite, and when requesting some special accommodation, they'll go the extra mile to be provide it. We really appreciate that. Inventory Store is laid out well and is generally (but not always) stocked with our go-to favorites. And of course there's the cleverly-written and illustrated Fearless Flyer, alerting us to specials and interesting new food and beverage items to check out. Have to say though, that on more than one occasion TJ's has stopped carrying the very items we liked best. (Still broken up about the fact they no longer carry the addictive Sweet n' Salty Nut Mix, and does anyone remember the chocolate-covered almonds from years back? They were so good, and, nope, the ones they carry now just aren't the same.) Pricing Pretty reasonable and somewhat lower than other stores selling comparable items. Safety Precautions Here's where they shine. Constantly wiping down carts, cleaning surfaces, adhering to social distancing, customers required to wear masks, and staff masks-up, too. This reasonable protocol sometimes necessitates waiting in line outside for a few minutes so the store's not overcrowded, but I don't mind. Trader Joe's in Templeton is my "go to" place for wine and cheese, but not much of anything else. The meat prices are ridiculous; the veggies in 1 lb. plastic are not the way I like to buy them. Often a favorite item is out of stock and who knows when it will be available again? The staff is friendly and helpful and the atmosphere pleasant, but the parking lot is a nightmare. I LOVE TRADER JOE'S!! My family and I have been fans and have been customers for many, many, many years. Love their products!! Whenever I shop, I always pick up a new item or two to add to my list - usually ending up adding to my regular (already long) grocery list. More pros than cons but definitely have my favorites. The only complaint is that some of my favorites become discontinued for one reason or another (eg., frozen mashed potatoes - never tried them? You truly missed out. Misto Alla Griglia-marinated grilled eggplant-please, please bring this back!!!). May have to buy a new freezer to stock up. Although, they did bring back the cinnamon crumb coffee mix back!!! Just went by Trader Joe's to get a few things. While I was there, I gave a manager?? some feedback on the Orange Chicken they sell. I told him that the last two times I bought it the quality {taste and size) had gone downhill. He told me to buy another bag, to check the lot number and contact their corporate office. I'm here once a week at least. It's on the way home, with the new parking lot it's easier to find spaces. The inside is not huge but TJs rarely are. It's well laid out, bright, easy to walk around and find what you need. It's usually pretty busy but I never wait in line for more than one person. The prices are good and the selection of things I like stays the same, and the selection of things I like to try changes often enough to keep me curious. They don't carry Kalifia brand milk or so I have to go to Target or Lassens or Whole Foods, which is a bummer but aside from that... I like a ton of their foods. Trader Joe's is always well worth my time and effort but the store does have a downside and some notable covid protocols that are worth being aware of if you don't go often. The good: Trader Joe's has some of the best frozen food around. The orange chicken and fettuccine from Italy are some of my favorites and we always have some on hand in the freezer. Many of the employees are wonderful and they always seem to have enough people working. Their plant selection is also always great. The bad: parking at this location can be a nightmare. I usually don't even try to park close. It's tight and I've seen a few near misses. Many items are seasonal so if you like it, stock up. Finally, the covid protocols are understandable, but not communicated well at all. I only shop here once a month or so to stock up (and in general use order pick up or grocery delivery at other places). I didn't know their bag protocols. Your bags HAVE to go under the cart even if they phrase it as "You can put it under the cart." It's not an option. Then, your groceries won't be bagged, you have to use a bagging station outside. But there's a good chance no one will tell you that. The end result was me bagging my own groceries at my car in the rain. A simple "We can't bag using personal bags right now. Please put them under the cart and you can use them at our bagging station set up right over there." Would be really nice. My husband has shopped there during covid and this was the first time he heard of the bagging station too. read more

This is our go to store. We love it here and people are so friendly. We had Noah and Austin bagging and cashiering and let me tell you....they tore it up! Could not have asked for better cashiers. Trader Joes - no longer going to patronize them..... We have been long-time Trader Joe customers, but no longer. Being in the vulnerable group we have been extremely careful so my wife went to the Templeton store during senior hour. They were letting anyone in, it was jammed and many customers were not wearing masks. My wife spoke to the store manager and asked him about the senior hours, as well as the masks. The manager told her I'm not going to enforce the senior hour or regulations, "I've got to run my store." I was very surprised at the attitude and have emailed corporate headquarters about our experience and disappointment in Trader Joe's. From now on we will confine our shopping to Costco where they are doing all they can to be safe and to create a safe experience for their customers. read more

I appreciate the procedures this store has taken to protect from COVID-19. And that's is NOT my issue. My issue is the snooty and rude behaviour of the cashiers. No good morning, no acknowledgement, they chatted among themselves and were just rude. I don't want a full blown conversation but don't treat me like I don't belong there or you can't waste time on me. I've lived and visited stores in Bay Area, Los Angeles and Central Valley - and service hasn't been pretentious or rude. I always find more than I came in for. My favorite is the TJ chocolate. They have good produce and organic meat but the selection is small. Today I got my lip balm which is the best and comes in a package of 3. I also got about $70 worth of other stuff. read more

I have been disappointed in Trader Joe's packaging of vegetables. My expectation is that Trader Joe's is a responsible environmental concise choice for fruits and vegetables. But to my continue opinion & surprise it is not. Trader Joe's use of individual packaging for small quantities of vegetables raises the cost of the product, creates a breeding ground for germs and repulsive looking food. This last package of Asparagus, once opened, the slime was apparent. Vegetables look like Trader Joe's packages them in a warehouse that distributes them on truck which creates a hot house environment creating this slime, not sure. Certainly don't know how this happens but it is not the first time. I wish they would solve this packaging for vegetables. The high standard of service and unique product offering is always enjoyable. read more

I haven't been here in awhile, but I remember this one being my favorite TJ's ever. Love the deck area, where after shopping you can sit and enjoy something delicious and cool you just purchased. Really lovely. Welcoming entrance, with bountiful flower selection greeting you. Shopping is peaceful and pleasant. Employees in my experience, were local and very warm.
