Built like a warehouse with very high ceilings and shelving: * It has tremendous stock * A very large produce section with some very good buys * Not everything, but very good prices in the meat section (with butcher!) * Easy-peasy and ample parking For meat & veggies, this is great option. I gave two stars because I was in and out. The store was clean and quiet which was nice, however when I got to the self checkout line to purchase the food, I did two transactions. The first one was pasta, sauce, tea, and water. The second was just chips and a Gatorade. The lady at the self checkout didn't appear to want to be there as she was rude to an elderly woman who forgot her money in the car and as I'm checking out she asked if I'm buying the 24 pack of water in my cart. I said yes and she asked if I was going multiple transactions and I said yes. She gave a look and said "I'm just making sure you're paying for everything, it makes it difficult to do my job when people do multiple transactions." Like I'm so sorry that I'm making your job hard by using a self checkout machine. I mean I'm already doing your job and I didn't come for the attitude. This was around 5:11pm in 7/19/26. Natani is the BEST checker! She always remembers me and is really sweet. I'm not used to such good customer service these days. I live in SLO and was only at the Atascadero location because I had an appointment in Paso, but I have not been back to the SLO store ever since the first time my family came through Natani's line. I saw an online ad showing 25.3 ounce bottles of S. Pellegrino water "4 for $8.00." So, I went into the Atascadero store to buy some. The cashier told me that they're $2.69 each rather than the $2 each they should be through the ad. When I talked to the manager/operator of the store about this, and I showed him the photo I saw on the Food4Less website, he came up with some lame excuse like "Oh, that's 'Food4Less,' that's not us. We are "So and so Food4Less." I'm sorry, but that's idiotic. The sign outside above the entrance says "Food4Less," No 'so and so's Food4Less.' He gave some name, but I didn't catch it. This is absolute foolishness. What a bunch of b.s. Use the new self checkout MAYBE!?! Been going here for years and never had any problems. Was a great place. So I'm in there today with my friend's son, who's dad is in the hospital, and his son needed some food. About to go in the self checkout line and the clerk comes up and says to us "25 items or less you can't use this line." To which I reply "It's pretty close AND a few of my things are in his cart, so it's two separate transactions." "Nope! 25 item or less," he says and walks away. Next lady behind us sneaks in with maybe 28 items and starts using the self checkout. He approaches here and makes her put her stuff back in her cart and go the the LONG line that's easily adds 10-15 minutes to the trip by having to wait. And mind you, the self checkout is now EMPTY and not even being used. THEN a guy comes up and with 28 to 30 items and welcomes this guy with open arms. "Come on over here buddy I'll help you out!" So I pull my things out of my friend's son cart and proceed to use the self checkout. Wait, 10 to 15 minutes for him to go though the line and proceed to count his items. The checker lady tells me to back up lol. And wouldn't you know, my friend's son had less than 25 items. Is it really worth all that Food4less?? Self checkout is empty but you can't break the "25 items of less policy" AND need to send people to the other long lines even when they actually have less than 25 items, but then totally ignore the rule for certain people?? Based on what I saw today, the self checkout line is for exerting unnecessary power and blantley discriminating against some, while making exceptions for others based on appearance, gender or what?? Totally rude and totally unacceptable! Not to mention a few weeks prior I watched the "loss prevention guy" totally humiliate, what looked like to me, to be a disabled guy at checkout. Swore he put something in his backpack and searched it. FOUND NOTHING! The customer explained he was probably just getting his phone in or out of his bag and the clerk went on the blame the customer cause made it look like he was stealing something. Upon checking out overhead the Cashier tell one of her regulars that the truck was coming in Monday night and will have more items out on Tuesday morning. This food4less sucks ass 1. Lisa made me "smile big" for her cause I didn't look like my ID picture that's was taken 3 years ago 2. Elisysa denied me my booze once because I had my younger brother helping me load groceries cause I just had a baby( but he didn't touch or even look at the alcohol) 3. Another time Elisya snatched my ID out of my hand then proceed to ask me if I had a problem. When I tried to call the store to complain I was hung up on twice for " being crazy" when I had asked her why she carded me but not the family behind me who had kids losing the groceries. I felt like I was profiled multiple times for being a young mom and it's not okay. I've asked for a higher ups number and they have refused and then hung up on Me. I was planning to use VONS, but they told me they couldn't use an emailed picture, but that I could show up when I got to Atascadero (I live out of state) if I gave them 24 hours. When I got there, they didn't have any slots open! Anyway, Nanette was a huge help, even figuring out how to use a USB stick to get the picture in the system. RUDE RUDE RUDE RUDE RUDE Manager tonight. My Wife and I were completing our purchase using a gift card that is for Southern California Food 4 less locations, but evidently not this county. Instead of kindly explaining that, the manager Elisa shouts "What is this?" AT my wife and I as though she cannot read or has never seen a gift card before. Mind you, this is with 4 people in line behind us. My wife tells her it's a gift card and has instructions on it and she shouts " We don't take those!" AT us, as though were trying to pull scam or are lesser than she is. This was very embarrassing for my wife an I. I told her, your logo is on the gift card, I'd like you to try it. She sucked her teeth at me and snarls "I'TS NOT GOING TO WORK!". I told her that is fine, but as a customer I'm asking them to simply TRY. Considering she said she didn't know what the gift card was, how can she say it doesn't work without even trying? The Cashier Molly was not any friendlier and had an attitude of her own which does not match the abundance of stickers on her name badge, but not as bad as the manager. Since inflation has hit food 4 less is not much cheaper than VONS, you mine as well just go to VONS and not be treated like a second class citizen. This was my first time at this store. I just moved here from south county. South county is VERY different with COVID going on. All workers are wearing masks, and are cleaning the carts constantly. At this Food 4 Less, only 1 or 2 of the workers were wearing masks. None of the carts were cleaned. Masks aren't mandatory. I was literally the only one wearing a mask and people were looking at me weird. I was a little shocked. South country it's RARE to see someone without a mask. We need to slow the spread, not get the virus because no one wears a mask. read more

I have no idea how this place manages the customer service they do. Food 4 Less has never been somewhere you think of going for good service, you go there for cost effective groceries, 24 hours, and to buy in bulk without having to go to Costco. I've been finding the produce I get here has lasted us longer than produce I get anywhere else, Costco included. The Produce staff even stopped me one time, and offered to go in the back to get me better quality items, since they knew they were just about to rotate what was out on the item I was getting. I always enjoy checking out, the cashiers make me laugh, and we have a good time. It may be me, since I always am cheerful when dealing with Service Industry people, since I work in the industry - but this place ALWAYS has me laughing on my way out the door. This store usually has everything I want or need to buy. The prices are the best in town, so If I can't find an item I really want, we get it later at another store close by. And, their organic eggs are a better price and better quality than the local health food store. It's worth the money. Rude employee at self checkout, Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at 5 pm. I have been a customer at this location since 2017. The touch screen was not functioning. "You don't get anywhere being aggressive" she stated. I told her not to lecture me. You don't get anywhere being rude to customers either. I had to tell her to stop lecturing me about five times. She stated she didn't do anything wrong. Yes, she did. Initially the touch screen was locked in scale mode She corrected that. I scanned items and pressed 0 bags used, The screen locked up again. I pressed oK about 7 times, nothing. Frustration set in. I worked Customer Service for Contractors for 25+ years. Customers spending thousands of dollars for roofs and HVAC units. You do not speak in a rude tone to customers. This is a first at any Food 4 Less I have shopped at which includes San Diego locations. Maybe she should clean the screens also as part of her shift at the self check outs. The person ahead of me stepped away from that unit, now I know why. It was malfunctioning. There's no way the management eats that stuff. Yeah, the prices are much cheaper than Albertsons or Vons but the quality is horrible. Wilted lettuce, very bruised apples, rotten celery.
