(2nd review of 2021) This review is for the Uber Eats (UE) online ordering & pick up. We've come here before about 3 years ago & dined in. This time because of the pandemic wifey & I wanted to be safe & ordered pick up. It took them about 20mins to have the order ready. With ordering thru UE you need to go into the restaurant to the bar side (to the left as you enter the big wooden door). You tell them you ordered thru UE & your name. They'll have it ready sitting on the counter by the kitchen. From what I observed, they did have people social distancing for dine in. They do require anyone entering the restaurant to wear facemasks (there's a sign on the door). Wifey got the Chicken Charles Fajita Salad (UE $12.50). She said that she liked the marinade on the chicken. The salad was pretty big too! She couldn't finish it all & had leftovers for lunch the next day. I had the Hillybilly Smashed burger (UE $10.00). Their burgers come with homemade chips. My chips were a bit koge (aka burnt), so it was jus meh. The burger was a lil disappointing as I was told their smashed burgers were big. If I remember correctly, the last time we dined in, we had one of the burgers & it was kinda big. My yelper friends know, I can eat. I coulda ate about 3 of these. Maybe I'll try the Big Triple Smashed next time. Other than the size of the burger, it was good. The bacon was kinda thick & crunchy. We also got a side of the Trailer Park Tots (UE $4.00) & a side of the Garlic Aioli, Rock & Red, & Chipotle Ranch sauces (UE $0.25 each). Well, I ordered the side Chipotle Ranch, but didn't get it. Wifey had some with her salad so maybe they thought I meant that one? Dunno cause that salad was supposed to have anyways. Whatever, it's only $0.25 so no biggie to me. The Chipotle Ranch was good, yes, I did have some from wifey's salad. The tots were as I remembered from the last time... super crunchy on the outside & moist on the inside. Super ono!! The Garlic Aioli was no joke garlicy, but really good! The Rock & Red sauce was a basic marinara sauce so it was ok. I would get the Garlic Aioli & Chipotle Ranch again. Would I try Grinders again? Heck yeah! I want to try to go thru their menu. Of course I'd get the Trailer Park Tots 100% every time!! Go try em out & lemmie know what you think. A Hui Hou!! read more

I hadn't been to Stonewall since it became grinders. It was too windy to sit outside. We first sat close to the bar, and it was too loud, so we moved around the corner. Our server was very good, all business, and to the point. Drinks came quickly as well as our food. Everything was delicious. There are several things on the menu that I want to try, so we will be going back. And i really want to try their pizza. read more

Glad to see that this Grinders franchise has not lost the original quirkiness. It is different than the original location in that it's housed in a house. We actually thought it looked like one of those old supper club kind of places (on the outside). Service was good. We ordered make your own slices (as this location doesn't have a slice o' the day). They were good. We ordered Bloody Mary's and they were definitely not the best we've ever had. These weekend cocktails were very horseradishey and watery. Went with beers the next round. Will stop back in because it's more convenient for us on our drives through KC. (But, I am pretty sure we'll stop in the original one, too.) read more

I ordered through Grubhub. The sandwich was cold, which is weird because it was early. I ordered the cheesesteak, it had no cheese, no onions, nothing but cold meat. Dipping sauces I didn't ask for. When I went to give the feedback, it was closed. Obviously I got a sandwich that they were getting ready to throw away. And I ordered a drink that I was charged for but didn't get. Grubhub refunded that. I will not order from here again. read more

Completely different experience tonight. Tried the Wed special Nashville Hot chicken sandwich with tots. Huge hand breaded chicken breast with great flavor and some sort of sauce that cut the heat. Tots were very good and crispy. Excellent service and great outdoor dining. read more

I was here on Monday night with my family. The food was good! We sat outside on the patio which was nice because of the weather. However, the area around the building is looking really shabby!! A couple bags of weeds/brush laying there, and the building looks like it could use a new coat of paint. I just feel like it's looking run-down!!! read more

I always struggle trying new items here. I go for the BLT and the Pizzas. No better place in the area to sit outside on a nice evening. Inside is quite loud because the walls reflect all sound and the quarters are tight. Love having this place in our hood. read more

Enjoyed the food and a real nice patio area with several tables. The service was slow and it took forever to get our check. Otherwise I would give it a 4 star. Would like to come back for happy hour sometime. read more

I have always loved this place--location and food have always been superb. This is our first time back since the Covid pandemic hit, as this summer the only thing you could do is eat outside and we could never find a space. We walked in and it was unclear as to how we were to get seated so we stood, and stood, and stood --- there was no sign telling us what to do, and although there was a clipboard with obvious names crossed off, there was no direction as to how to proceed. After about 10 minutes of wait (and us making inquiries with wait staff), someone came to help us -- asked us if we had put in our names down on the list. (?) So clear directions of how to get seated would be helpful..... we later saw that there were signs and directions of what to do, but they were hidden away behind the host stand so they should've probably been set up for people to see? I am happy they are seating inside with limited capacity. I will say I am very sorry for the reduced menu, as both of the items that I normally ordered are removed from the menu. However the food we did get was fresh and tasted great. The wait staff was pleasant, and the blueberry bread pudding was to die for! So normally it would be all five stars, but because my food choices were not present I had to knock off one star....and if we didn't know how good the food was, we likely would have walked out during the unknown/unclear wait to be seated. read more

I simply haven't been here enough to sing the same praises as some of my fellow Yelpers. I will say if you're a craft beer fan, Grinders has an amazing selection of brews to choose, with an atmosphere that feels a little bit like you're hanging out at a party in a friend's basement. It's been said you have to fight for your right to party, so I was hoping Grinders was up for the challenge. I met a friend for lunch and ordered the reuben sandwich with tots. It was decent, but not anything that made my taste buds bust out into rhymes from the Beastie Boys. The corned beef was tasty, thinly sliced (maybe even shredded), but the cheese wasn't melted all the way and it felt sort of slapped on and cold like an after thought. The marble rye bread was soft and fresh, so I'll give them points for that. The tots scored well and the Thousand Island dressing was on point. Don't get me wrong, it was a decent sandwich, but that's it, just decent. As for our server, Garret, he was friendly, helpful and attentive, so he gets points too. Obviously, the folks who gave Grinders 4 or 5 stars attended a very different party, and I respect that. For me, the party at Grinders needs more fight. And now, I'd like to pass the mic! read more

Grinders came highly recommended, so I decided to try this location closer to where I was staying in Kansas. Glad I did because this place has so much atmosphere! It's in an old house and the inside is like a tavern - friendly and interesting decor. We came on a Saturday at lunch during the coronavirus scare so unfortunately the place was empty. Good for us but bad for the business. Lots to choose from on the menu and all 4 in our party selected something different, and all 4 were very satisfied. Person in our party who ordered the chicken parmesian sandwich gave it rave reviews. I had the fried mushrooms as an appetizer and the classic Philly cheese steak sandwich. Both were extremely good, but I've had better fried mushrooms and better sandwiches. The house made chips also good but I would have preferred fries. Not five stars for me, but a definite recommendation. I'll consider returning myself next time I'm in the area. read more

Certainly a really fun bar with great atmosphere, but don't come here for the culinary cuisine. They have a wide variety of craft beers on tap as well as in bottles and cans. The don't have any non alcoholic beers, though. I was there with a large group. Lots of fried foods for appetizers. They're mostly known for their wings and specialty pizza. I did have their pizza which was featured on one of the food networks. It wasn't too bad since it had some true Indian curry flavors coming through. There was also the Goldberg breakfast pizza which contained cream cheese and lox. Again, a bit out of the box, but tasty. We were there on Monday which was Trivia night. Fun atmosphere. Pest pizza slice I have ever had, pulled pork and ribeye! Would definitely recommend!

I don't know why we haven't been here before! The food was great. I got the BLT with a fried egg, and the it was SO GOOD. The bacon is thick cut and candied, the fried egg was cooked perfectly - gooey but not dripping. Best BLT I've ever had but it was a very heavy lunch. I had to take half of it home (not a bad thing). Two of my friends got the philly, and another friend got a slice of pizza. Everyone left full and happy. My only complaint was that service was a bit slow - our server took a lot of time in between getting our drinks, taking our app order, food, and even more time getting our checks. However, it was a busy Saturday afternoon and we didn't have any where to be so it was so so. read more

The patio area is great, and they were kind enough to bring some treats and a water bowl for us, and every couple of minutes someone would come and say hello to our dog. Service was outstanding! My wife and I ate at the restaurant and we also wanted to place a to go order. Our server made a point of stopping at our table when it was time to order our to go order and it was ready right when we finished our dinner. I had the Reuben at it was great. My wife had a pizza slice and really liked it. Pizza slice was big and a great value. Atmosphere is very casual, but we liked the vibe of the restaurant. The Calzone"s are oddly flavorless - thought I had Covid! The West Clubber was good as were the chips. Our server was on-point and the beer was cold. Loved the outdoor patio and live music. Alas, the TV's were tuned to Trey Gowdy on Fox 'news'. We won't be back. read more

Oh grinders what can I say? Well for starters if I get anything more than a beer and a pretzel I'm very disappointed with the food. I don't think that the menu is very creative or tasty for the price. I think that I'm equally disappointed in the service. I'm a resident of Oak Park one would think that the wait staff would be a little bit more courteous and friendly to people that are dining here. The people that are dining here live in the community. They're not coming from Kansas City to eat at grinders trust me. I really want to try and enjoy this place however every time I come here I'm disappointed. I hope that the management staff can take a real look at the menu, the food, waitstaff in general and their attire. Most of them don't look very hygienic and see through short spandex is the last thing I want to look at while I'm eating. This place needs help! read more

Grinders Stonewall is a pretty cool little place. I'm not sure the history behind the building, but it's super neat in there! We went on a bit of a tough day because there was a KU game on and people were very hyped up. There was some cussing and loud yelling around my two little cousins, but that's not exactly the fault of the restaurant. I ordered the veggie sandwich with peppers and cream cheese and it was good. Half of a sandwich was a good size but a little pricey for a full if you're hungry enough. They had trouble providing a vegan option for my friend but it eventually worked out. This is a definition of a hole in a wall but in a good way! They are known for their pizza but I got the HillyBilly burger....awesome! Stopped in last night just before the snow storm! I'm really picky about my cheeseburgers and LOVED theirs! Sub the chips with tator tots or fries and you've got yourself a tasty meal. Ive come to this location several times but never at the right time -- happy hour. Last night I enjoyed happy hour for a bit and liked their specials! Normally I sit outside at the tables but seeing as how it was snowing..... that wasn't going to happen. My service on previous visits has been a bit slow but normally they're slammed. The pizza, loader fries/tots, sandwiches and chicken fingers are good. They have yard games when it's nicer outside and it's really a fun time with friends. read more

Such a fun casual place to eat. The wall decorations are fun with different signs. Plenty of seating: both low tables, high tables, outdoor area for summer and bar stools. It does get very busy on event tonight's and weekends. The drink menu is extensive and options are constantly changing. Usually you can find smaller local draft beers if they haven't already sold out. The food is great. Pizzas are always good and you can create you're own. Lately I've been adding cream cheese. Today I paid a visit to a restaurant I heard a lot about but had not got the chance to fully experience since living in the KC area. Here we are at Grinders (stonewall location) tucked away on pflumm and 103rd. This pizza restaurant ...featuring a full bar, open kitchen, and a very diverse menu for a place that's known for its pizza and philly cheese steaks cuts down on the frills and delivers heavily on environment and welcoming staff. I had their house brewed grinders pub ale which delivered a light taste and 5% abv at a reasonable price. Used to love coming here. Good patio and love the location. Last two visits have been sub par. The funky dough used to be this wonderful unique pizza bread knot. Now it's basically a think cheese pizza/cheese bread and overpriced. The pizza was greasy and the ingredients were lacking. Thursday is music night and when it's cold or rainy that means it's moved indoors, where it's then near impossible to have a conversation due to the loudness. Lastly, for the love of god, please make a menu where I don't need to cross reference whether I'm ordering a can or pint of beer. Just make a list of what's on tap and keep it up to date. They rarely have the beer you want, even though it's on the menu. read more
