REVIEW: It would be helpful if Yelp were consistent on its business pages, and it might be helpful for other Yelpers. This isn't the page to review for Amtrak.com. It's literally for the Eugene, Oregon station. Was on a road (train) trip on the Coast Starlight, and Eugene is one of the very quick stops heading north to Seattle. I ran off the train to see if there was a gift shop or a place to get a soda, etc. There wasn't, but that's OK. Inside, the station was clean and quiet. I didn't see a staff member, but as we only had 3-5 minutes, I didn't have time to even look. But I was happy to see such a neat, historical depot, if only for a couple of minutes. The Amtrak.com website has the following data for this station (good to know for next visit!): Staffed station ATM not available No elevator Payphones Amtrak ticketing kiosks available Restrooms Ticket sales office Unaccompanied child travel allowed Vending machines No WiFi Arrive at least 45 minutes prior to departure if you're checking baggage or need ticketing/passenger assistance How long before departure to be at the station if you need ticketing, baggage or passenger assistance services. Arrive at least 30 minutes prior to departure if you're not checking baggage or don't need assistance. Thanks, Amtrak Eugene. Can't wait to be back! Soon!

On the plus side there is a small ($20?) cleaning deposit but no "1st & last month's rent", etc. so move-in is affordable. Rent is about average for the area. The rooms are fully furnished including a TV, mini fridge and microwave. The common rooms are comfortable. On the minus side, the kitchen and laundry are closed from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., and when the house is full, 5 guys share a bathroom. The location is convenient: you can walk to the downtown area (U of O is a hike, but easy to reach on the excellent bus service); the house is on the major west-bound route with a bus stop almost out front. There is a good wi-fi connection for your pc and mobile devices. The owners live here, so maintenance problems are quickly taken care of. Street parking is available.

I felt safe and had the amenities of a house and was right next to a bus stop which was awesome. I was invited to eat dinner with Kip and Susy twice and it was very good and only $5. Both meals (Pasta and salad and french bread, and a Panamenian rice dish with chicken) were super good. Mr. Rice made a cake one night and shared it will all the guests which I thought was very sweet. The other guests were older and nice, one man was a writer who was very interesting. It was 100 times better than the hostels in Eugene and Portland. All in all, a very nice visit to Eugene. I will stay here again next time i come through.

This Amtrak station in Albany has improved over the years. I once had an elderly relative who'd be…read moresent to wait for her train to Paso Robles under a bare, lone tree out on an unpaved path. There is now a paved walkway&lighting. Unlike the Portland station, there aren't snacks or souvenirs. I've seen fancier bus stations (Evans out of Napa to Oakland&SFO offers complimentary coffee, snack machines, restrooms- even the news) Back in the day, this was little more than a sad-looking shack/ticketing booth. It was downright depressing, and in Oregon's often inclement weather, not a place where you'd want to wait outside. Thankfully, they've upgraded over the years.

REVIEW: ** This review is for the Amtrak Station - Albany (ALY). The station is very small inside with brochures of Oregon and surrounding things to do in the area. There's a small vending machine with drinks and snacks; there is a restroom but the woman behind the glass must "buzz" you in. The same staff member was working both times and she was not helpful or personable. Ruined the experience for my guest and I. While we were waiting for our train she was playing on her cell phone at her desk. 0 professionalism or even basic customer service. On our next visit I hope Amtrak has another employee on shift. Customer service is a lost art. :(
