After walking all over Dover in mid-January for many hours, it was very nice to come to this restaurant in downtown Dover. When I got there, they had a guitarist playing and singing which I loved but, sadly, most of the customers were watching sports at the bar in perfect earshot. I waited for at least 5 minutes to get somebody to serve me, but my waitress apologized due to miscommunication. Besides the accidental wait and the 2 atmospheres at once, it was excellent. They have an amazing vegan burger which I enjoyed while being vegan momentarily. There's two seating areas (or so) plus the bar area, outside dining, and a private party area upstairs. I wish I took more time to ask about and read into this neat and historic building as well. VERY cool place, and I'd recommend it. read more

They only reason I'm not giving a five star is because I've only been there once and don't wanna get ahead of myself. I visited around Christmas of 2022 for the first time (despite living in Dover my entire 30 years of existence). The food was lovely, the ambiance was nice, and the service was acceptable. Since it was late, we were able to have a wonderful conversation with the owner who I really enjoyed speaking with. Dover might not offer much, but it does provide little gems like these to enjoy. read more

I like making my own Bloody Mary, since I like it done spicy and in a specific way, anyway...I ordered one and asked for it spicy and was excellent! There were 8 of us total celebrating the b-day girl and we were loud and unruly (at times) and Austin worked his a** off! Awesome find just a 15 minute walk from my hotel. A colleague suggested the Grey Fox for something different than our typical adventure and I'm certainly happy we went. I've been here a few times over the years and have never had a bad meal. Tonight I had the petite sirloin with Parmesan rice and mixed veg....delicious! My fiancé had ribeye with the rice and veg. We were both very pleased. Everything was seasoned perfectly and a major step up from any of the other restaurants around here (mostly chains). Definitely give this place a try if like me, you're tired of the same old stuff that every chain offers. Very reasonable prices, too. Service was on point. We looked at various reviews in the area and decided to give the Grey Fox a try so we stopped in. Entered the front door and stood at the host stand for five minutes. There weren't any customers in the place and we could hear employees laughing and carrying on further in the restaurant, but not a single one checked the host stand. Went to "brunch" here Saturday. They had live music by Danny Beck who was fantastic. The brunch menu was adequate, and I can't believe I'd complain about this, but all the dishes were huge! And delicious. I don't think the wait staff was ready for the crowd brought by Danny because that was slow. My DIL ordered fries with her wings and they never showed. With that said, the wait staff was pleasant and didn't get flustered. I'd definitely go back especially if Danny Beck is playing. read more

My friend and I usually do early dinners so we came here alittle before 5 and they were still serving their lunch menu (which was fine). We ordered drinks to start off our night ! I got the blackberrh sangria and it really hit the spot! My friend for a s'more martini which she really enjoyed as well. We both ordered burgers. I got the Shanghai burger and she got the king of Denmark burger. We both go the hot tots since our server suggested it to us. Our food came out fairly quickly. My burger was a decent size not too big and not too little. The Thai chili sauce was really delicious ! The crispy potato hay on the burger gave the burger a nice crunch. My friend really liked her burger as well. Both burgers were really juicy and delicious in their own unique way :) The hot tots we had was well seasoned and crispy. The only thing I would change is to maybe get more tots so it's more of a side. The tots arrived in this tiny container (since I eat things together I had to conserve my tot eating!). The place is also super cute. Old house converted into a cozy restaurant. Upstairs they have a couch to hang out on as well. Overall great experience. I will def. Be back ! Four and 1/2 stars The Grey Fox Grille and Public House is a gastronomic treat located in Historic Downtown Dover, in a fully renovated and restored Victorian home built in 1881 that is rumored the site of a regular haunting reported on local ghost hunters! The Grey Fox is the state animal of Delaware and a sign of the owners' (military veterans) nod to tradition while embracing new and adventurous twists on classic comfort food and libations! Once you step into Grey Fox G&PH, you'll experience casual elegant ambience throughout several seating areas (dining, meeting, reception-- this place has several levels) reminiscent of the architectural period combined with rich wood and very welcoming layout in the bar area (it IS, after all, a pub). I felt right at home from the moment I stepped inside. The drink menu was impressive, boasted several tap beers, a respectable wine list and some creative cocktail offerings from the well-stocked top shelf liquor supply. After a Hendrix and Tonic, I mused over the menu and considered my options. From the Fox Trio (egg salad, chicken salad and tuna salad combo) to grilled veggie skewers to Key West Shrimp (wrapped in bacon with a kaffir lime dipping sauce), to heartier fare such as burgers, steaks, chops, and Beef Wellington. The veggie skewers and Wellington were my favorite! The only fault I found with this intriguing establishment was that the restroom was located on the second floor-- atop a flight of pretty steep stairs. We really enjoyed our evening at Grey Fox. It's inside an old house, so they have a few rooms with tables for restaurant dining, plus a bar area. The bar had the feel of a neighborhood favorite, while the service in the dining area was attentive and friendly. We got the salmon piccata and the turkey burger, both of which were tasty, and there were several other options on the menu that looked appealing. My family and I spent our Thanksgiving holiday in Dover this year and had to find a place to spend our Thanksgiving meal together as a family of 7. It was myself, husband, our three sons and my parents. We were fortunate to have a reservation for 4pm dinner. We arrived right on time and was seated immediately. Great, right? We were led to our own private dining area on the second floor. It took about 15-20 min for anyone to come up and ask for our drink order and then another 15 min to get our drinks. So literally we've waited about 30-35 min to even have our food order taken. Oh and when the drinks did arrive (which was all water but one orange soda) the water was a cross between sprite and water. They had to replace all the waters. So add more time to that. Let me add that there was a set Thanksgiving menu so it should not have taken long to decide what we want and for them to ask us for our order. We waited and waited to finally give our dinner orders. Anyhow, my husband was the only one to order any kind of soup/appetizer. His soup came out within 5-10 min of ordering. But when did we finally get our meals? I took pictures so I have it time stamped: my son began digging into his meal at 5:11pm! BUT that's not it, everyone's meal came out but my husband's. He had to wait approximately another 5 minutes for his meal. Guess it was a good thing he ordered soup that he ate 25 min prior to his meal arriving. So to sum it up, service WAS NOT AT ITS BEST! I know it's Thanksgiving but if you know ahead of time the crowd that you are feeding, since reservations were made ahead of time, you would think your staff would have been prepared. At the same time. I really couldn't tell how busy they were since we were on the second floor and we WERE THE ONLY FAMILY seated on the second floor. My two young kids kept making remarks asking "did they forget about us? Where is our food? We are hungry!" They are 9 and 10 years old. This was one time where I was happy that they had their iPhones to keep them entertained. Don't get me wrong, we didn't complain for the mere fact that we wanted to make sure we received our food without it being jeopardized but I was very disappointed at how the evening turned out and that this unfortunately was one of the worst Thanksgiving holidays spent away from home. You're wondering now how was the food at least? Well I ordered the prime rib with three sides: sautéed mushrooms/onions, green beans, crab stuffing. It was good but it would have been nice to have more mushrooms instead of 3 and less onions. The portion size was a great amount and should be for the amount we paid. However, my parents were not too impressed with the slow roasted turkey that they ordered. I didn't try it so I can't really speak for them. From what I saw though it did look like a good hefty amount of food, so I can't complain with that. (See pictures posted). They definitely could have given more gravy from what I could see. This review is long enough, in a nutshell: service could have been 100% better and the food was ok. Would I come back? Most likely not because of the service. Came back for lunch and had the crab Benedict and it was so yummy. Hubby ordered French dip cheesesteak. It was good but mine was definitely better. I had ordered a Bloody Mary that I tried to stomach but it was ruining my meal so I ordered a beer instead. He asked if I liked the bloody and gave him an honest answer. He looked a bit bothered that I didn't like it. I quickly said you don't need to take off bill, but I certainly think he should have. He didn't. I barely touched it. It was a homemade mix they needs to be work on. It needs oldbay and less chunky junk. I'll be back but will be seated in dining area instead of bar. read more

This place was okay if it wasn't for the table of loud frat boy types that steadily got drunker and drunker. I couldn't even hear my kid asking questions, sitting right next to me. The place is a cute house converted into a restaurant. I was stuck with the New Yorker as they were out of sirloin and it was a very fatty piece of meat. No one else was overly impressed with the food and the server wasn't very attentive as she had a lot of tables. I may give it a second chance but probably on a weekday. read more

Been back twice (why, if I hated it the first time? This is Dover. Eat here, you'll understand.) The first was a luncheon for a half dozen ladies. Service--bent over backwards. Food--good. Generous soup salad sandwich lunch and a crazy-good dessert. Don't take one bite of that bananas foster on puff pastry or you will find yourself eating enough calories for a troop of Eagle Scouts. Don't say I didn't warn you. Way too good. I think I had a BLT--anyway all was great. Second meal. I had a strip steak. Cold and gristly. Sent back to be cooked med rare, not raw, came back lukewarm and gristly. Asparagus, which grow here, were tiny pencil-lead spears cooked to death. Soaked in some kind of "butter." Blech. The dogs didn't touch the leftover steak. These dogs steal paper bags and eat them. They steal cabbage and eat a whole head. Either they are vegans or they hated the steak too. I vote for "hated." Who has a vegan dog? One out of two. Yeah, I'll be back. What choice do I have? Can't serve business guest peanut butter and jelly sammidge from my desk. read more
