I don't know where to start so I'll just say from start to finish, if you're craving a sub or cheesesteak (like me), this is the place. The owners happened to be in while I dined in for the first time, and opted for the cheesesteak sub, loaded fries, and their famous salted brownie (still warm, omg). It hit the spot and more. Service too was excellent, and everyone was so warm and welcoming. If you have a hankering for a really good sub, this might be the best in the city.

    Hotty The Hot Toddy

Food is amazing especially the forty toddy. Service is great even when they are busy!! And you can sit down and eat with your friends and family even though it's kinda small. Brain does hard work everyday and he's always blessing other people. Make sure you bless him !!!

Second visit! The service was still impeccable and the food even better. A beautiful meant the garage doors were open with the screens letting fresh air in. 12/10

    LOADED FRIES

Had a three day weekend and decided to spend it in Indy. We had some restaurants set in stone for the weekend, but had not settled on Friday's meal. Was kinda craving Mexican. Kinda craving a good sub. Not a chain sub. A good ol' freshly baked, freshly made sub. So we did some research and found Greiner's. It's the oldest sub shop in Indy. Pulling into the parking lot, we were a little doubtful. It's clean looking but... nothing fancy. I've found out that's where you tend to find the best food. So... in we went. The line wasn't extremely long when we entered, but there are so many options on the menu that it does take some time to order and get your food. Don't get me wrong. They don't mess around. They know what they are doing and the food is well put together. The man behind the counter was larger than life. 6'7" and a personality that added flavor of its own. A mother in front of us asked what was on a certain salad. He told her. She asked the difference between that salad and another. He replied "no meat!" She pondered a moment and... ordered a sub. In a VERY good natured way, he roasted her! "You mean to tell me you asked all of those questions about salads only to order a sub?!?" Her husband was laughing, she was laughing. He ended their transaction saying he just couldn't pass up the opportunity. It was all in good fun. Being shy, I knew I wasn't going to ask questions! Ha! I opted for the 8" Hot Toddy while spouse ordered the 8" Philly Cheesesteak. Then we saw they had cheese fries. We stupidly ordered two orders. The Hot Toddy has capicola, turkey, ham, pepperoni, with chipotle sauce slathered on one side of the bun and mayo on the other, cheddar cheese, jalapeño cheese, lettuce, tomato (ordered mine without), banana peppers, with salt and a light drizzle of olive oil. I added fresh jalapeños. The Philly Cheesesteak had steak and cheese with your choice of toppings. Both are toasted. Let me tell you... we struck gold! Hands down the best sub I've ever had. So full of meat that it began to push through the underside. I couldn't get enough. The flavors are perfect! Everything stands out. It's hard to put into words how great the Hot Toddy is! Spouse loved the cheesesteak sandwich, but one bite of my sub and we both decided we will be back for the Hot Toddy. The question is 8" or 16"?? The loaded cheese fries were huge! Came with liquid cheddar cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, bacon and a dollop of sour cream. They were delicious. But... our stomachs were begging for mercy and we couldn't get them all down. This place is small, but it packs a huge punch! We left so impressed and excited to go back. ASAP! Would HIGHLY recommend!!! You won't regret it!

Id heard about this place for a while now and finally made a point to swing by. Highlight: the staff was super friendly and the food was delicious. I didn't know what to expect but was happy I went. My Italian beef was flavorful and toasted wonderfully. The beer was cold. Chips delightful... The brownie... Uhhh . No other words needed. Staff was super friendly and pleasant to chit chat with while they worked. This isn't McDonald's.. so don't expect to blow in and out of here in 2 minutes with food in hand, they make the stuff/put it together as ordered.. I'll definitely be back!

Brownies - they are so soft and perfect!

Greiner's is a sub shop established in 1969, and subs are certainly their speciality, but they also have AMAZING pizza and Mac n cheese! Family-friendly and quite possibly the nicest staff in the downtown district, Lisa makes every customer feel like part of the locals. 3 picnic tables outdoors and 3-4 tables indoors often with people working on their laptops, it's a lively place and just feels like Indy ! The sub sandwiches are massive - always on fresh French bread with fresh made meats. I honestly don't know how people eat them so I ate mine with a fork - you could suggest light lettuce if you actually want to be able to close it ;) HIGHLY recommend their Hot Toddy special, really good flavor mix and the banana peppers are the perfect topper. Honorable Mention: their brownies are worth getting every time. They go through over 3 sheets a day.

Greiner's claims the distinction of being Indy's oldest sub shop deli. Located just south of fountain square, this place has a lot of items from subs, pizza to even Mac and cheese to choose from. Service was fast and the sandwich was amazing. I ordered the hot toddy: capicola, turkey, ham, pepperoni, cheddar cheese, jalapeño cheese, mayo + chipotle, lettuce, tomato, banana peppers, kosher salt and olive oil. There's no heat (spiciness) but everything seemed to mesh perfectly. The bread is homemade and perfect for the sloppiness of all the ingredients. I'm glad I ordered the 8 inch. If you're in the area you should give them a try.

If you like an Italian sub, trying this Hot Toddy is a MUST. If you're worried about spice levels, the sandwich does have several ingredients with heat, but they're all in moderation such that the sandwhich isn't spicier than pepperoni. The two staff members who helped me were kind and went above-and-beyond to give me advice on my first visit. I was initially surprised by the higher prices ($4 brownie and $13 sub), but the portions are MASSIVE. The brownie hardly fit in the to-go container because it's so thick. The 8-in sub is certainly 2 meals for me as a lighter eater, but even the man making my sandwich remarked that he will make a 16-in sub for four meals for himself. The homemade bread is excellent. Some aspects of Greiner's are a little rough around the edges, like part of their exterior sign had fallen off, and the back of the parking lot looked cluttered. However, everything that's essential to be clean was. The parking lot was well paved. The interior was clean. The truck display outside is cute. One thing that stood out about Greiner's is the humor in their signs. The place has character! I'm thrilled that Greiner's is a part of the community at the intersection of Garfield Park, Fountain Square, and Bates-Hendricks.

What a find! Tucked near Shelby and Raymond, Greiner's has fresh, massive subs - served cold or toasted. They were busy this afternoon, but cranked out sandwiches quickly. They also offer pizza, mac n cheese, and loaded fries. I opted for the only sandwich that gets its own sign - the Hot Toddy. This sandwich is for meat lovers - turkey, pepperoni, ham, and cappicola accompanied by cheddar and jalepeño cheese and your choice of toppings. I'll be back for more sammies and their other menu items!

Even though my interaction with them was very limited, the staff was nice enough. I ordered a jumbo Carolina Slaw Dog with a side of BBQ baked beans. The sides are already prepared and pre-packed, so my wait was not long. It took them less than 5 minutes to have my food ready. The beans were cold, but they did offer to heat them for me. I was heading straight home so I opted to just heat them up when I got there. My dog's bread was soggy, as expected. I am just throwing that out there for those people that soggy bread matters to. It was a delicious dog though and I really liked it. The beans were also pretty good and I enjoyed them as well. I highly recommend fining out where this truck is going to be and checking them out. The menu offered a few different foods with multiple choices on sizes (by the ounce), and the lovely hostess taking our order was delightful. We had a really hard time deciding what to get as everything looked reeeeeeally good, but we opted to split the following: *Bacon Hash -- 4 oz for $4 -- well worth it! *Barnyard chili -- 8 oz for $7 -- pricy yet tasty *Jicama Tacos (one chicken guac and one chorizo aioli) -- 2 for $7 -- messy but pretty good *Fudge bites for dessert -- $3 for one -- dark chocolate, peanut butter, banana, sea salt, and applesauce mixed and formed in to a hockey-puck type solid mass. It was not really sweet like I expected, and kind of hard to eat. Probably wouldn't get it again. Next time I will totally get the Brussels Sprouts for myself when not sharing with the hubs :) I would say overall this was a 3 1/2 star experience for me as it was over $20 for 'snacks' and we were still hungry afterwards, but a star bump for using real, quality ingredients.

Still, I'll support a paleo food truck when the truck has "bacon (greater than) gluten" painted on the side of it. That's one way to get my attention for sure! On our visit my boyfriend and I shared two tacos--one chicken, one chorizo--fried plantains, and the brussel sprouts. I have so many nice things to say about all three. Instead of corn or flour, Caveman Truck uses fresh jicama as a tortilla to hold its protein + slaw + guac/aioli. It's the perfect starchy alternative to cut through the good greasiness of the chorizo. The plantains are not only fried in coconut oil beautifully, but also they are caked with a curry-based seasoning, providing you with a sweet plantain that also has some savory elements to it. The brussel sprouts--my favorite of the three--are fried in coconut oil and topped with an overload of crumbled bacon and a spritz of lime. It's a little bit of fatty, a little bit of zesty and a whole lot of flavor. All three dishes knocked it out of the park. From here on out, I'll be keeping an eye out for the Caveman Truck on the streets of Indy, because I still need to try the highly-praised barnyard chili and bacon hash. If this is how our ancestors ate, then I can't wait to eat the primal way again!
