This man knows sharpening. I have taken scissors, knives and backyard tools to be sharpened and have been impressed every single time. One time I took a pair of rusty scissors that were my favorite shears and he was able to not only sharpen them but remove all the rust. Most cuts and gashes happen because of dull knives. Why? Because one has to use more force. Why should you always be upset that your scissors don't cut! Or that your shears for fabric don't make that clean sound when cutting? Anything with an edge on it, this sharpenning master can do it. You can leave your items and he will call you when they are ready. I have literally taken every single knife and scissor to this man. I had 3 EDC (every day carry) knives to sharpen, 1 folder & 2 fixed blades. I've never used Greg's Sharpening Service before but I like the fact that he is not a pop-up at all farmer's market, or a mobile sharpening business, but rather a permanent brick & mortar storefront business. I didn't have an appointment, but was able to drop my knives off, grab a breakfast sandwich a block away, and pickup my knives within an hour. I don't recall the price I paid but it was cash only, and I thought it was very reasonable. There wasn't anything I wasn't happy with. All my knives were sharpened back to how they should be. I visited Greg for the very first time this week, with our 7 chefs knives and 2 pair of kitchen scissors to be sharpened. Greg is nice, efficient, and very reasonable with his pricing. Our knives were ready for pickup in about 2 hours - yep, same day service, drop off and pickup = fantastic!! We now have sharp kitchen knives and scissors, most likely good for 6 months to a year, as long as they are properly cared for. The one thing to note is that, through no fault of Greg's, parking around his shop is sparse, and sort of a challenge, but you should be able find street parking within a block or 2. Sharp! We finally decided to have our knives sharpened, though they still cut through tomatoes, we wanted the slices to be much cleaner and not so mushy, we waited too long. Hubby found Greg's and we are very happy with out knives. Parking was limited, but it was lunch hour, I got out of the car, while my husband waited in an inconspicuous spot. Pretty solid shop. I had one job for Greg, and only one job, and that was to make my knives sharp. Oh did he succeed. If you need some convincing why sharp knives are worth the price...Well, a sharp knife is a safe knife. A dull knife can slip and cut into something unexpectedly...like your hand. And you'll always be silently judged by people who understands the benefits of a sharp knife with comments like, "Your knife is kinda dull..." or "When did you last sharpen your knife?" With that out of the way, sharp knives are a must. I own several knives and am no stranger to having my knives sharpened. The ones I brought Greg today were the Benchmade Adamas 375, Benchmade Barrage and Spyderco Metallica. Greg charged me $5 for non-serrated edges and $7 for serrated. That price varies depending on the tool that needs to be sharpened. What's the turnaround time? It was only an hour. That's right, I was only without my tool for one hour. That's an incredibly fast turnaround time. Of course that depends on how busy he is and how many people were in front of me, lucky me I was in front of the line. When I picked up my knives he gave me a demo with cutting paper. Any decently sharp knife will be able to cut paper effortlessly. In terms of service and time, this place is great. read more

Throughout the course of the pandemic (and actually a year or two preceding lockdown), I began to put together my collection of knives. One by one I added quality, well-made pieces based on my cooking and ingredient prep needs. Over the course of 4 years, I had put together quite the collection. Unfortunately, people in my house (*ahem, the MEN in my house) made parallel use of my prized knives to do an array of tasks that didn't involve foods. Slowly, over time, the beak of a Wusthof peeler became a casualty in an attempt to put together a piece of furniture. This was followed by the edge of a paring knife becoming dull after being used in an attempt to cut through cork (don't ask). Along with regular wear and tear of 8 knives, I had 3 pairs of kitchen shears that had started to dull to the point of needing to be replaced. For some reason, they became go-to crafting, gardening, and gift wrap scissors (I wish I were kidding). Instead of buying an electric sharpener or running over to Sur la Table or Williams Sonoma to get the sharpened, I sought out a privately owned sharpening shop, and came across Greg on Yelp. Greg was really friendly over the phone when I called him on a Tuesday morning before heading over to drop off my cutlery. He told me that there was a good chance he would have all 11 pieces done by early afternoon, and he delivered on his estimate. His prices for professionally sharpening 3 pairs of kitchen shears, re-tipping a peeler, and sharpening 8 knives of assorted shapes and sizes (think - kitchen knife, sandwich knife, tomato slicer, serrated bread knife, and a few of my favorite kitchen workhorses) was well below the cost of ONE of my knives! I was thrilled at the personal and professional service Greg provided, and it felt really nice to patronize a locally owned establishment rather than feeding into a box store queue where I may have had to wait weeks to get my cutlery back. I came back two days later to do mine. I had 7 regular blades and three serrated knives and he said to give him 15mins and it'll be done. I stopped by Pink Rose Around the corner and grabbed them 15mins later! It cost me $40, since the serrated blades cost $5 each and $3.25 or 3.50 for regular.
