I purchased a used car, unfortunately it only came with one key fob. My family has been dealing with. Kwik-Key Locksmiths for a number of years. This was my first visit to their shop and they did not disappoint. My key fob was somewhat difficult to locate a replacement for. They worked through the process of locating it for me and they kept me updated on a regular basis. Once they had my back-up fob in their shop, they worked efficiently through the process of programming it and cutting the laser cut key that fits in the fob. Not too much I can say about a locksmith/key place, but they are simply the best for me in town, double hands down! So far, I've only had copies of keys made here, but they always know exactly which one it is. They use what appears to be an old machine and the keys work perfectly every time! Like I mentioned, haven't had a need to try any other locksmith services but, I'm sure they'll take care of you. The 5 star reviews they have are well justified. It has been difficult for me to find the right keys for my old Toyotas. Copies for these clunkers. Original ignition locks. If they did fit, the key itself would be a cheap alloy, and would start to bend after a while. Sometimes I had better luck in Tijuana getting copies made. I'm hella glad I found this place. The blanks they use to make the keys from are a thicker metal, and therefore last way longer. Normally will run you about $4 for a key. Of course these are the basic copies, not any laser cut types. They also do the FOB ones and can order what you need. It's always best to take the lock with you if possible, or the car so you can try it out on the spot and guarantee that the key works. Kim was super helpful today (9-9-2023) when I needed a copy of a house key. I told him that I used to know the former owner, Bill, and Kim said the business had been abandoned when Kim took it over. I said that I believe Bill died in that year when Kim stepped in, and Bill's daughter didn't have much of an interest in the business but I don't know what happened from there. A couple of local locksmiths recommended Kwik-Key for a key fob replacement. I am glad I went there. New key fobs are expensive and require complex programming that takes about an hour and require key cutting. Under $200 is much less than a dealership. Word of advice: don't toss your keys across the room. A missed catch is costly. read more

I needed to replace the ignition in my 1998 Explorer. I bought a new ignition from O'Reilly's for $62.00. I then called Kwik-Key to see if they could re-key it to match my existing keys so I wouldn't be stuck with different keys for ignition and doors. Jim at Kwik told me that he couldn't re-key after market switches, but he could sell me one of his and re-key it. "Sure" I thought, "What's that going to cost me?" Much to my surprise his switch was only $44 + $25 to re-key. $67 total. The one I bought first was $62 and it was going to be at least $25 to re-key. So I returned the first one. I saved 20 bucks. Came in here looking to get a spare key made for my quad. I had already gone to two different Walmart's and a Home Depot and none of them were able to do it. I have the guy a call and he said he should be able to do it but would need me to come in so he could verify the key model. Quoted me $10. I came in and he was able to do the key in about 2 minutes. We ended up spending another 5-10 minutes just talking about quads and where we like to ride. He even gave me an ATV safety training flyer Incase I was interested. These gentlemen are my go-to whenever I have a key problem. They took care of my electronic coded minivan Fobik-type key, and my housekeys, including a rebuild of one of my Schlage door locks. Kem gave me good advice about not using graphite in my door locks, too. Since I switched to silicone spray the locks have worked much better. Went 2 days and couldn't find my car keys on a weekend. Previously called the Nissan dealership in Kearny Mesa & they quoted me $200 + find my own tow to the shop $65-75. There were other alternative, decided to give them a call and they quoted me $140 over the phone, YIPPEE!!!! They said they have another job to go to, but should be at my house in a hour & half. Ended up not using them :( the UHAUL company called me 20mins prior to their arrival and they said someone turned in my car keys (long story!! I didn't have a car for more than a month. I called almost all the locksmith in San Diego, and they charge $150+ for a replacement car keys. Another locksmith in University Ave gave me Kwik-Keys business card but I didn't call him right away because I assumed that since he knows the guy, they probably charge the same. But I called him anyway, and found out that it only cost me $32 +tax to get a replacement key for my car and it takes about an hour to make. He only needed my VIN # and of course, proof that its my car. I stopped by the shop, and showed him my registration card and my DL, and he made his call, he then got my key code and proceeded to make my key. It only took about less than 10 secs to make my key.
