The cream filled oreo donut is the best donut I've ever had. Don't go on Sunday because they aren't freshly baked and the donuts will be stale and picked over read more

Greenbush Bakery has the best donuts in Madison! I love all the Old Fashioned donuts they have. My favorite is the cherry ones! They are always such a hit when we have friends or family come visit from out of state. They are so delicious! read more

Greenbush Bakery has the best old fashioned donuts in town. The cake donuts and fritters are great, too. The others are good, too, but nothing compared to the old fashioneds, cake donuts, and fritters. You can even find their donuts at Woodman's and Willy Street Co-Op. I know the west siders will get up in arms about this but Lane's is where you go for raised donuts and cakes, and Greenbush is where you go for old fashioneds and fritters. The two best spots in town. read more

$1 donuts as a little pick me up or for any darn reason, you just can't beat it!! I cheated on my first Greenbush love, the OG old fashioned donut today to get the custard-filled chocolate cake donut. It was delish, but it wasn't the old fashioned. It didn't have the crispy outside, perfect lightly dipped glaze, or slightly chewy batter on the inside that has me feeling some kinda way. I vow to stray no more and stick to my roots, what I think to be the BEST donut in Madison. Cmon, it's a classic spot. If you're still reading to this point in the review and you haven't already been here or aren't making your way to buy one right now, you're doing it wrong. read more

A fresh old fashioned from Greenbush is my favorite donut in town. Their apple fritter is just killer though I really wish they made a smaller one. The flavored old fashioned are yummy but I just prefer the original. The other donuts I had were all good, not nearly as memorable as the OF, but still very good. read more

Just stopped into Greenbush and had a great experience. First time exploring the city and I saw that they had great donuts. There was a great selection of donuts to choose from and the employee (Nick) was a joy to speak to. He gave me info on each donut I ordered, told me about the area, and was really polite. Will definitely drop in again when I am back in town. read more

Best donuts in the Madison area hands down! The fritters are huge and delicious as well as the donuts. The pumpkin filled donuts around Thanksgiving are insane. They have all different styles of donuts and they have their own coffee now too. They are a staple and a can't miss when in Madison. read more

Love their donuts!! The are the fried cruller cake style with a yummy glaze. They also have their products for sail at Wiily St Coop

Their donuts are only $1 each, but they're amazing! I definitely recommend! You can also watch the process of making the donuts through the glass windows. read more

If you want to find the best donuts in Madison, look no further... Greenbush Bakery works around the clock (open late too) to ensure that our community has safe and easy access to some of the highest quality donuts in the Midwest. My favorite thing to get is the apple fritters that are so massive, it could put a small child in a coma! 11/10 XX read more

Greenbush is delicious, but I wish they had delivery. Parking at the new location is pretty easy, and traffic flow within the building is efficient. read more

Nice local place to support! Good donuts, also a great place to stop by on Game Day! Check it out if you can

The old fashioned donuts are one of the best ones I have ever had. I am a donut cynosure. If you want to instagram your donut, this isn't your go to but if you want the best tasting donut, this is the place to be. As soon as you step out of the car you smell the goodness from the shop. The donuts are sweet and filled with flavor. A must try! read more

This is the only place to get good doughnuts. The Apple fritter is not only amazing but huge!decent variety of both doughnuts and fritters to choose from. read more

Greenbush Bakery - Apple fritter. - Bakeries Near Me - Madison, Wisconsin

Greenbush donuts are perhaps the best donuts I have ever had. They make every flavor known to man, and they do so to the utmost perfection. I'm not even traditionally a huge fan of donuts, but when someone at school brings in Greenbush, no one can say "no." I absolutely recommend them! read more

I came here for one thing and one thing only: the apple fritter! It was $5.50 for a size that was almost twice my face! It is perfection! It had nicely chopped small pieces of apples and the donut wasn't overly sweet. It was a good ratio of the crusty outer surface area since it's pretty flat. I prefer this over the apple fritters that are big and puffy in the middle because those tend to be made up of more soft, doughiness rather than the crustiness. I want to come back and try the old fashioned donuts next time, but this one visit was enough for me to want to come back for the apple fritter again. read more

If you want donuts in Madison, this is obviously the best spot. A family favorite. Friendly staff too. Yummmmm

Best donuts in Madison! Love the old-fashioned donuts. Only gripe I have with this place is the limited selection they have of that kind and the oily, gross feeling you're left with after you eat them. Yet, my sweet tooth keeps bringing me back. Dear owners, please make strawberry old-fashioned donuts! I'm sure it'll be a BIG hit....more so than cherry. read more

These donuts are the best. My personal favorite is the raised vanilla with sprinkles but the old fashioned ones are great. You can't go wrong with any order. I called ahead for 3 dozen donuts and they were ready when I arrived 15 minutes later. Social distancing in place for carry-out. read more

As a child, I refused to eat non-Greenbush donuts. Now that I've travelled and tasted other donuts, I realize there are other good donut shops but Greenbush is still Madison's home base for donuts. The old-fashioned, Bavarian bismark, and giant apple fritter are my go-tos. If you get a giant apple fritter, try to save some for home, microwave it for 5-10 seconds. Amazing. My friends who visit Madison regularly will typically purchase a couple dozen greenbush donuts right before they go back to their hometown. read more

If I could die and be reincarnated as anything, it would be one of these gosh dang donuts. I am a college student living in the building above the bakery and find myself going there more times than I would care to admit. There's something about being done with a long day and going right on downstairs and then stuffing my face full of these amazing donuts. I would also like to shout-out the guy who works every weeknight at this place (the one on regent street). He is a great guy, always super enthusiastic no matter what and recognizes me every time I go in. He remembers orders, makes you feel loved, and is overall one of the greatest food service employees or all time. Boss man- if you're reading this, give the guy a fat raise, he deserves it. At the end of the day I would sacrifice everything I own to be able to suck down a dozen maple blueberry donuts a day, and will continue to go to this bakery until I am broke, fat, and dead. read more

Donuts are delicious and Greenbush only makes that better. Nom Nom Nom Nom Nom Nom -me eating the donuts

Was in here on Xmas eve. First, it's nice that they were open at all. As I walked in I encountered something one never expects to see at a doughnut shop on Xmas eve, someone bit*hing. The customer was yelling about them not having enough jelly filled doughnuts left because another customers called ahead. She was going on and on saying means things to the staff all over a jelly filled doughnut. The nice lady at the counter handled it with poised calmness offering some free doughnuts because the lady was so angry. It was ridiculous but the staff handled it with professionalism and class! Oh and the doughnuts are delicious! Happy Holidays!! read more

Bought these donuts for my professor's birthday. They are pretty good and are open early. You can call in your order as well. No critiques about this place. They are as advertised. read more

Best donuts in town, no doubt about it. The only thing you have to be there early because sometimes they runout.

Filled old fashioned donuts. If you haven't yet experienced these, you really need to open up a whole new world for yourself. My two favorite donut varieties in general are glazed old fashioneds and filled bismarcks. The filled old fashioneds unite my two loves. So far the strawberry and raspberry fillings are tied for first place. The texture of their regular old fashioned donuts are kind of chewy and moist and I urge you to try one. Any flavor will do, but the simplicity of the plain is a great place to start. The apple fritters are legendary and enough to share with a small family. They sell out quickly during popular times so if you can head in during an off time you should. My last visit was on a late Thursday afternoon and they were well-stocked. Weekend mornings? LOLOLOL don't bother. Half a dozen donuts comes in at $5.50 and they are worth every penny. Single donuts are $1, fritters $5 (but are equal to at least five donuts in size, so don't be turned off by the "high" price). The young man with blond hair working the counter on my last visit was super friendly and helpful for anyone who had questions. He was good with the kid in front of me, offering samples and joking with her. It felt very much like the neighborhood bakery that it is. While Greenbush does live up to the hype, there are a couple of things to note: - The cake and yeast donuts are fine, but I truly think their old fashioneds blow them out of the water and are what earn them their cult status - The donuts served at the bakery are 20 times better than the packaged Greenbush donuts you can find around Madison's grocery stores. Freshness makes a huge difference. If you've only had a store-bought GB donut treat yourself to the bakery experience before passing final judgment. It still might not be for you, but it's truly a world of difference between one of their donuts made that day and one that's been around for a few days. read more

I love Greenbush. If you're visiting Madison, it's a must stop. They had a recent move, and I have not been to the new place. So I can't speak on that. But they have wonderful donuts, and the best fritters around. If you're lucky enough to get one fresh from the fryer, you can enjoy a slice of heaven. A while back they changed the oil and it changed their flavor, and not for the good. But since then they have changed back, Thank goodness. read more

All my experiences here feel like they just got sucked away. I periodically buy donuts for my staff of five. I buy six donuts and get a box always have ever since I first asked, nobody ever said boo about and just happily loaded the delicious donuts. Turns out it's been wrong all these times and boxes are only for a dozen - I found out today in no uncertain terms. Ordering like I normally do and she grabbed a bag, I asked for a box, the said "only for a dozen" I shared that was news to me as nobody had ever said anything or questioned the request before. Never knew the rule or it'd be an issue. I shared that and she said yup only a dozen, but snarkley said "I'll give you a box this time, but know they're only for a dozen." I was told this three times. I got it and decided not to inconvenience her anymore. HyVee was more than box size accommodating in the end. In a bag, they're hard to share with co-workers. All these visits for a single donut, I've said "no thank you to the bag, just the paper is fine" for care and concern for cost and environment. Now I can't get a box for ease of sharing. Very bad customer experience today and I am crystal clear on boxes only for a dozen. read more

Whenever I go they are out of the raised donuts. I like donuts to be light and fluffy. But If you like the old fashioned ones they always have a bunch left. read more

Greenbush has the best donuts in town, hands down. Their classics are exactly what you expect them to be - cake, old-fashioned sour cream, ect. But they also have Fancy donuts. I'm talking "candy bar" donuts, which essentially mean long-john shaped old-fashioneds with crazy-amazing fillings like caramel and raspberry! They also have fancy filled cake donuts like cream-filled mint Oreo! WHAT!? Their apple fritters are what you dream an apple fritter to be, ooey-gooey with chunks of apple. Its no frills. Don't expect to stay because there is no where to eat. But who needs to stay to eat their donuts? Best part is, they will often give you a "freebie to go" if you order a bunch. Love them. (don't come here if you are on a diet . . .ever) read more

Just stopped in because I heard how big this place was in Madison. Wow. The classic donut was simply the best donut I have ever had. Crunchy, but moist on the inside, not too sweet, with light frosting. The 4 people I was with agreed! Don't miss it! read more

It's 1 am, you are just coming down from a terrific high and you are ready for some doughnuts. Where do you go? This place! Me and three of my friends once went here and ordered two dozen doughnuts. We ate them all on the way home! My first purchase from this place was a humongous apple turnover in 1976. It was after a Kansas concert. I have been going back ever since. The doughnuts continue to be as good as ever. read more

My friend Greg and I used to have this thing called "The Greg and Kate special" which meant that we'd walk to Greenbush at whatever hour of the night when doughnuts were the only thing to satisfy our hunger (they're open really late on weekends, I think at least 2 a.m.) and each get three, yes, three doughnuts and a pint of milk. (Really putting my fast metabolism to work). This was always one of the happiest moments of the weekends. Greenbush doughnuts just make you happy. They always taste fresh outta the oven, they have a million varieties (cake and raised along with cinnamon rolls and other kinds of pastries), AND they're kosher. What more do you need? read more

I swear the people who work there must hate me because everytime I go in there, this is what happens: Them: What can I get for you today? Me: Everything. It's okay, I'll show myself to the door. Holding my bag of about a dozen donuts of course. You get two options when you leave: You eat your right outside on the bench, make a happy mess all over yourself but it's okay. Obviously this depends on the weather. Or Option 2: eat your donuts in the car, and make a happy mess all over yourself and inside your car. Lame jokes and anecdotes aside, I swear these donuts are probably the best in the world. In fact, before my family went home to Hong Kong, they insisted that we drive to Walmart, buy the biggest tupperware box and cram as many donuts in there as possible. True story. Get: Old Fashioned Donuts, Jelly stuffed, cream stuffed, apple fritters, long johns, (see? EVERYTHING). You will not regret it! **PRO-TIP: Come here via S. Orchard. Yes, maybe you detour a little bit beforehand, but that way, you'd avoid the Regent Street mess, and get to turn straight into the parking lot. read more

The idea of having fresh donuts outside of your usual suspect, ala Dunkins is not something I know too much of (Not that I'm too fond of donuts anyways!!). This place though was on my check out list for quite sometime. Suffice to say they don't disappoint! We got quite a few kinds of their daily batches. Most were Raised Fills as they like to call them (Apple, Lemon, Strawberry, Raspberry and Cookies n Creme one). Additionally we also tried on of their classic cake ones (Blueberry). Standout amongst the Filling ones was Apple! The delicate pieces of fruit perfectly blended in subtle compote all working oh so well with the cinnamon suger coating! Mmmmmmm... The rest were OK and tasted more like traditional jam based ones that you otherwise get elsewhere. The cake donut was surprisingly cakey and that's a good thing coz it tastes a lot better than your traditional doughy ones. For $1 each and $5 for half a dozen, you can't beat the value. read more

Best, I repeat: The best Donuts in Madison. Now, fortunately and unfortunately for me I work very close to Greenbush bakery. This means I have every opportunity to take advantage (maybe a little too often) of their awesome creations. Where do I begin..... Glazed, apple fritters, cream filled, jelly filled, Oreo creamed, cake donuts, Boston crème' Bavarian cream, and it goes on and on. It's hard not to say the selection is impeccable! Let me just make this very clear, these are not your every day grocery store donuts. These are homemade creations that you will be thinking about all day. Perfect donut. Go get one (or two, or three, or four) already! Done! read more

Doughnuts are on my mind right now, so it was about time that I reviewed one of my Madison favorites The best way I can describe Greenbush is a better quality version of your average Dunkin or Winchell's. Nothing really fancy and unique but good, cheap doughnuts in all shapes and varieties. My favorite.......the cinnamon with apple filling! I hadn't eaten one of these things of beauty since I was a little kid back when parachute pants were acceptable to wear, so when I first walked into Greenbush over two years ago, I had felt as if I won the lottery when I saw a rack full of them! I'm also a sucker for the cream filled doughnuts! Service has always been good, and you cannot beat the price! If I wasn't over 2000 miles away right now, I'd wander into Greenbush and go on a full on doughnut binge. read more

Madison's Donut Hole ... Greenbush is centrally located on Regent St. Hours conveniently run from 6AM-12AM. The service is helpful and patient. Donuts are supreme. They cost $9.00/dozen, but the quality of a kosher Boston Cream donut is well worth the little extra you'll spend. Although I have only tried their donuts, their other baked goods appear to meet the same rich standards. read more

Such good donuts!! Not very cute, more of a grab and go situation. This is a madison classic
