Possibly the only thing from my Wisconsin childhood that has truly not changed in 40 years! I have had donuts all over the country and all over Europe and these are still my favorite. I live in TN, but when I'm visiting family, I make the trip to Stoughton for these. Today I brought my kids to experience them. The Bismarck is the best donut I've had anywhere. Always fresh and amazing. Also I paid $7 for 6 donuts.... I'm not sure how they stay in business with those prices. Truly the best donut shop. read more

Cute little place, just a few small tables, but lots of goodies that looked really delicious. The girl behind the counter was very nice and knowledgeable about what was in her case. I got a blueberry danish, which was soft and flaky and....amazing. The peanut crusted piece of cake - the very tender cake was surrounded by buttercream before they rolled it in the peanuts. I'm sure there's an official name for it, which I do not know, but it was delicious, also. They also had coffee available if you are into that. Parking was right in front of the store. read more

Best donuts. Long ago used to walk down there from high school (long gone) and get "day old" really cheap but still the best.

We heard this place had a great Kringle so we stopped in for that and to pick up some bread. The bread selection was OK so we passed on that but we did pick up an apple Kringle. It was late on a Saturday morning so there was not much of a selection. Not sure its as good as an O&H Kringle but not bad... We also picked up a donut that was glazed with maple and covered in whole peanuts - I never seen a donut with that many peanuts. It was very good. Nice to see small local bakeries still surviving - a real asset in Stoughton. read more

I was roaming around in the area and randomly went into this store. It was an interesting Norwegian bakery. Everything I had was nice. I went for a Charlie Brown, which was a very chocolatey cake. I also went for a coconut macaron. Also a donut coated with peanut crumbs.Krumkaka looked very similar to an ice cream cone. read more

Softest fresh sliced loaf of bread I have EVER purchased in my life. Throw in two cases filled with assorted donuts and pastries. An light croissant texture apricot danish and strawberry cream cheese pastry. Throw in the moist chocolate cake with buttercream dollops and then the dessert is fudge dipped on top. What an adorable, delicious little bakery! I went here with my husband and father and we got a pecan roll, cinnamon twist, chocolate covered bavarian cream donut and chocolate chip kringel. Just walking by the bakery you get a sweet smell of baked goods and sweetness. My favorite was a chocolate chip kringel. It was crispy on the outside with a creamy, chocolate chip center. It's nice to have a family owned bakery in a small city, but I've been here three times over the course of a couple years and I never seem to get the warm fuzzies. I always feel like I'm inconveniencing the staff. To be fair, the people working the counter are on the younger side, so they could use some teaching in proper customer etiquette. I've also learned the earlier in the day you come, the better the selection will be. I wasn't too impressed with the donuts, but the chocolate chunk scone is pretty delicious. I've also tried their breads and they're okay. I will still continue to come here I hopes the service aspect improves. read more

Went here on a Saturday morning to pick up some donuts before walking around downtown. The original plan was only to get a donut and some coffee, but then we saw them all, so we had to get 6. Also, we had the impulse buy of chocolate and blueberry day old scones. The donuts were light and fluffy, yet maintained a good body so you could still chew them. My favorite is always the cinnamon swirl ones with crushed peanuts on top and theirs did not disappoint. Probably one of the best ones I've had. My friend always loves a custard filled one and he was happy with this one. They do have a thick frosting on some of the donuts, so if you're not into that, I would choose a different variety. The day old scones also ended up being a pleasant surprise as we tried them the next day, so 2 days old, and they were still nice and moist. There were giant chocolate chunks in the one. The coffee was decent. The autumn blend one was a little to cool, and the regular was a little too hot, so we mixed them together and the temperature was perfect. Everything was pretty reasonably priced and quite tasty. We will be back! read more

Great bakery located in downtown Stoughton. My co-workers brought these fresh donuts to work and they were to die for. Decided to stop by the bakery with the family today. I knew this place was good just by the amount of cars that pulled up right at 7am on a Sunday. Good assortment of the usual long johns, glazed, sugar, cream filled, and sprinkle donuts. There was a mini fridge for drinks. Cookies, breads, and other delectable treats for sale. You could hardly see what was in the case for the other treats since the humidity built up on the window. I paid $7 and some change for a half dozen, chocolate milk, and a rainbow decorated cookie. The donuts are practically on steroids. You really do get what you pay for! The frosting is sweet so if your looking for a diabetes type donut then this is the place to go. Nice friendly staff. Would definitely stop by again. read more

If you visit Stoughton during daylight hours and you don't stop by Fosdal's for a treat, I'd say that you haven't really been to Stoughton. A favorite place in the morning for many, many middle-schoolers and commuters, it is definitely worth your while to step inside and enjoy the awesome smells and bakery offerings. I just love the place - it is like stepping back in time. Only a few tables, good coffee, great selection of delicious pastries, and friendly counter service. My favorite is to get a coffee and a cream cheese danish and, if it happens to be available, to take the table in the little nook to the left of the door (as viewed from inside) to do a bit of people watching while enjoying the ambiance of the place and the awesome treats they make here. It's a long drive to Stoughton from Waunakee and quite honestly, I was dreading making the trip through snowy conditions for my daughter's early morning Saturday basketball game. Then I paid a visit to Fosdal Bakery and suddenly the trip didn't seem so bad. The Fosdal doughnuts have some substance to them without feeling heavy or greasy. Their doughnuts are less expensive and better in overall quality than their counterparts at Greenbush Bakery in Madison. While I didn't pick up any bread, I tried several samples and was impressed with the taste and texture. The women working the counter that Saturday morning were wonderful. Even though it was my visit, they treated me like a regular. The cozy surroundings seem to be a popular gathering spot for the Stoughtonites. I'm a huge fan of this bakery. I was raised in Stoughton, so I've been coming here for as long as I can remember. The library on the corner gives children a card that entitles one to a free cookie on reading hour days, so I would always come here. The donuts are light, not over done and delicious. Everything is cheap and wonderful, the cookies are especially worth your money. I'd recommend the molasses, sugar and Charlie Brown. (chocolate with raisins with chocolate frosting) There's also homemade bread and soup. If you stay, you'll undoubtedly be witness to casual exchanges between neighbors and the gathering of older men who sit in the window. It's a great way to experience the spirit of Stoughton and if you're lucky, you'll hear a bit of Norwegian! I strongly recommend this bakery if you have the chance to pass through town. If you have a bit longer, I'd go down to the river and eat your donuts there. (Take main to Division and turn right, follow until you hit the river. Total distance is about 2.5 blocks) read more

Really good donuts for cheap! This is a classic small town bakery. I eat my fair share of gourmet donuts, usually costing 2-4x the cost of a donut here. They don't exactly have the most unique options here, but the standard raised options are fluffy, moist, and delectable. They do offer coffee but it's pretty basic with no barista service or hand made options. I much prefer a donut shop with a nice espresso machine to pair with my sugar.
