What a great spot. We were greeted by the staff immediately. We came around dinner time, but the doughnuts caught our eye. Sure, I'd love a doughnut while I wait! The wings were just added to the menu, so I had to try them. They were excellent. We got some naked & some with sauce. You can't hide the quality of a naked wing, and they were perfectly done. They didn't have a lot of sauce options, which is understandable, but the buffalo appeared to be home made and was a nice heat level. I can certainly envision wings becoming a larger part of their business and see them expanding their variety. Can't wait to bring friends here with me to try more of the doughnuts. The building was formerly an auto mechanic shop, which explains the name and gives the place a unique, quirky style. I'd read rave reviews about their fried chicken sandwich and donuts, so I decided to stop by. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich ($9) and a chocolate cake donut with buttercream icing ($1.50). The sandwich was excellent--the breading was thick and crunchy, which I really enjoyed. The cake donut was also delicious, with a rich chocolate flavor and smooth buttercream on top, and the price was reasonable. There's plenty of parking, a few outdoor tables with umbrellas, and some indoor seating as well. The staff behind the counter were super friendly and welcoming. Ok so the menu is limited, but honestly that just doesn't matter because if you're wanting something besides this chicken sandwich you're missing out! Lots of parking, inside is very clean and there's lots of seating. Employees are polite and food was ready quickly. We ordered six donuts and a breakfast sandwich. My sandwich was super indulgent but delicious! Fried egg, sausage patty, and cheese on a plain doughnut was a combination I was not expecting to enjoy. As for the doughnuts, my kids had mixed reviews on the chocolate glazed with sprinkles. They thought they were okay, but nothing over the top. Cinnamon sugar doughnuts were better received. Overall, I have to say we probably won't be back anytime soon. While there were many things right, the main thing (donuts) were just okay in our opinion. They did a great job converting a former Jiffy Lube-ordering at the counter with a few tables for dine-in customers next to the exposed kitchen. I opted for the chicken sandwich and ordered a 4 piece for later in the evening. Love that you can request either mild or spicy. For the 4 piece, I ordered half and half and both were marvelous. The spicy definitely has some smoke paprika and reminiscent of a spicier version of a bbq potato chip. The breading and the chicken itself was seasoned to perfection. Fried to order, the breading was light and crispy with the juicy chicken underneath. I loved the sandwich and the sauce that was served on the bun. Excellent price point and value for the meal. Both mashed with gravy and Mac /cheese are clearly house made and both wonderful. Their donuts. Exceptional. Chocolate ganache is a work of art. Their fried chicken. Let's start with a solid truth. Madison is a fried chicken desert. There is no establishment in Dane County that is excellent. There's awful/abysmal (KFC) mediocre (any supper club Especially broasted) and there's ok-good (when Kwik Trip and Metro Market are in your top 5 you're in a desert). This is a modest improvement over ok-good. Fried chicken should be 1. Hot (it was not-obviously precooked despite the wait). 2. Juicy (it wasn't dry but it was a far cry from juicy). 3. With a thick batter that comes across as light. Flavorful for bonus points. (They hit the latter missed the former). My husband and I were very excited to try out Zippy Lube after reading about it earlier in the week. We showed up around 11:30 and there were no tables, a good sign. The concept and the menu are top notch but I feel the food fell a bit short.. We got the hot and fresh donuts and then two chicken sandwiches, one hot and one regular. The donuts were good but had been sitting under heat lamp and definitely not hot and fresh, I didn't see them making any new batches in the 30 minutes we were there. It'd be more ideal if they were made to order or more frequent. The hot chicken sandwich had a good flavor profile but again the chicken isn't made on demand which then you lose the fresh, crispy element. We'd try again but can't say I'll be racing there. read more

Finally, a donut shop on the north side of town. Zippy Lube offers premium and classic flavored cake donuts at individual, half dozen, or dozen pricing. My favorite was the vanilla buttercream cake donut. In addition to ordering a dozen donuts, I got a few hot mocha drinks to wash down the goods. Unfortunately, specialty drinks is one I think Zippy may have some opportunities to improve on... The mocha literally tasted like Hershey's chocolate syrup mixed with whole milk; it left a very grainy aftertaste. If you're bringing in donuts to the office, make sure to go on Monday, Thursday, or Friday cuz Zippy is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays! read more

I have been twice now, once for doughnuts and chx sandwich, again for chicken dinner. The doughnuts were ok but not amazing, in particular the fresh/hot ones were good but the 'fancy' ones had been sitting around and did not add much flavor. The Chicken sandwitch and dinner were both great. Had Mac and Cheese side as well as mashed potatoes and gravy, both were well above average compared to local BBQ places. The chicken itself was well prepared, crispy as fuck but not over/underdone. Look forward to revisiting but hope they keep working on the doughnut flavor. read more

What a wonderful repurposing of an old gas station! I visited another in Feb. in Foley, AL. called The Drowsy Poet. Zippy Lube has 5 or 6 varieties of homemade cake donuts. You can even have a donut breakfast sandwich with bacon or sausage, an egg and cheese. Homemade fried chicken starts at 11 am. for lunch with sides of Cole Slaw, fries, etc. The decor is great, and the menu items are priced right. They have coffees, teas, and Coke products as well. What Fun!! Take note, it is very busy on weekends. I believe the hours are 7 am. to 7 pm. but it closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. read more
