Their chicken sandwich is amazing!
Kevin C.

A fun hidden gem! I love the atmosphere, donuts and chicken sandwiches. The service is excellent and LGBTQ + affirming. I highly recommend checking this place out.

The building was formerly an auto mechanic shop, which explains the name and gives the place a unique, quirky style. I'd read rave reviews about their fried chicken sandwich and donuts, so I decided to stop by. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich ($9) and a chocolate cake donut with buttercream icing ($1.50). The sandwich was excellent--the breading was thick and crunchy, which I really enjoyed. The cake donut was also delicious, with a rich chocolate flavor and smooth buttercream on top, and the price was reasonable. There's plenty of parking, a few outdoor tables with umbrellas, and some indoor seating as well. The staff behind the counter were super friendly and welcoming. If I'm in the area again, I'd definitely stop in for another fried chicken sandwich!

This is my go to place for lunch before I catch a flight out of town since I live on the west side. Parking lot with limited amount of spaces during peak. Side street parking available! Counter service! You order up front from their menu board above. Cake donuts. Coffee. Chicken Sandwiches. Regular or North Side Hot. 2, 4 or 6 piece chicken! Sides (separate) are mashed potatoes, Mac and cheese, and Cole slaw. All available in different sizes. They use brown gravy for their mashed potatoes. Everything is delicious. It's always a special treat for me! Enjoy!

Stopped by here as I was looking for donuts. These are fresh and homemade. Got the chocolate, blueberry hot, and blueberry glazed as they were seasonal. The blueberry glaze was my favorite! I liked the decor and was surprised that they had breakfast sandwiches and fried chicken/chicken sandwiches as their main food items! My local friend said next time I have to try their chicken. Smelled really good inside too. Will come back for sure! Affordable and cute.

This is a food place attached to an oil changing place. I went for 6 mini donuts. They were all good. Fried chicken sandwich was my favorite item. Breakfast sandwich was good as well. I went for a chai latte as well.

Hot chicken sandwich Mac n cheese

Ok so the menu is limited, but honestly that just doesn't matter because if you're wanting something besides this chicken sandwich you're missing out! With all these chicken places popping up now, this is hands down the BEST hot chicken sandwich I've ever had. I don't know if it's the breading, the pickles, the sauce it's just fantastic! The mac n cheese is the creamest ever and even the small is filling. We were too full to try the donuts but they looked amazing! It's a cute little joint with really friendly staff. GO HERE!!!! Keep them busy so they're around for a long time!

Lots of parking, inside is very clean and there's lots of seating. Employees are polite and food was ready quickly. We ordered six donuts and a breakfast sandwich. My sandwich was super indulgent but delicious! Fried egg, sausage patty, and cheese on a plain doughnut was a combination I was not expecting to enjoy. As for the doughnuts, my kids had mixed reviews on the chocolate glazed with sprinkles. They thought they were okay, but nothing over the top. Cinnamon sugar doughnuts were better received. Overall, I have to say we probably won't be back anytime soon. While there were many things right, the main thing (donuts) were just okay in our opinion. There wasn't enough excitement for us to warrant a return trip. That being said, it could totally be your jam. Definitely worth giving them a try.

I love their donuts and chai lattes here! The veggie sausage with fried egg on apple cider donut buns is a must! Service is great and the best part is it's located inside of what was once a gas station -- super cool vibes!

Chicken and sides.

I used to come here on my stingray bicycle to get air in my tires and set off the pump ringer hose. They have good chicken mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese! Cole slaw was a little different. Will come back and try the spicy chicken.

Fried chicken basket - two hot style and one regularly seasoned.

Are you looking for super-satisfying "homemade" fried chicken and sides? If yes, Zippy Lube has you covered. Their regular and hot fried chicken has a lightly battered, crispy exterior which opens to a juicy interior. The chicken sandwich, which we got dunked in hot sauce, was set in a pillowy bun with a killer sauce and crunchy pickles. The hot isn't super hot. More Midwest hot. Mashed potatoes with gravy were definitely cooked on site, and the vinegar style slaw had a sweet tang to it which cut the heaviness of the fried chicken. The food was 5 stars good, as was the friendly and timely service. The interior wasn't super inviting which knocked it down a star for me. We have gone back for takeout and really enjoyed it. If you haven't been, check this place out.

4 piece chicken (leg is hiding under the breast), mac and cheese and slaw) - plenty for two people!
Pvill W.

Went back and tried the slaw this time - have to say it's not my favorite, but the chicken is awesome and I like the mac and cheese!

Good Doughnuts, but the worst espresso drink I've had in years. Less than a mile away, you can get top notch coffee at Cafe Domestique.

I didn't know what to expect as I didn't take the time to check it out. When we walked into the restaurant I reality is a fast food chain. This particular restaurant is in what use to be a Hardies. It had a cool decor and we were welcomed upon entry. As we were looking o er the order board the cashier asked us if this was our first time and replied yes. He explained the spice levels and what we could substitute for sides etc. We both ordered the #3 with cheesy fries and a drink. Our meal included a chicken slider that had coleslaw and a sauce. It was more of a sandwich than slider, and another large piece of chicken that was like a half of a breast that laid on top of a piece of white bread. Dill pickle slices, a side of sauce and the cheesy fries rounded out the meal. The sandwich was delicious with the combo of coleslaw and sauce. The larger piece of chicken was surprisingly very tender and moist. The French fries were ok. If I were to go back I would skip the cheese topping. We both jumped in the ice tea as they had unsweetened, sweet, raspberry and peach. We got the sweet tea and it was pretty weak. We head south every winter and usually if I get sweet tea I will mix a little unsweetened tea into it. This sweet tea was ok with the sweetness for me but it seemed really watered down. I'm not one for fast food but I would stop back here for a piece of chicken or take out a bucket. I'm not sure how they make their chicken but it had a dry rub over a light texture, thinking the chicken may be deep fried and then Tossed in the dry rub. Our rub was medium heat. It was borderline spicy enough but next time we may try the next step in the hot spice.

Butterbird, I'm honestly offended we found you this late into our Madison trip…read more This place was an absolute 10/10 across the board! Vibes? immaculate. Service? incredible. Food? life-changing fried chicken, cheese curds, and cocktails that I'm still not over. Environment? somehow cozy and cool at the same time. This is the kind of place that feels way too unique to ever become a chain... which is devastating news because I desperately wish there was one in Kansas City. And honestly, that's probably why it's so special. It feels deeply Madison in the best way- intentional, high quality, and focused on doing their thing really, really well. Also, shoutout to Ian, the manager, who was amazing and made an already great experience even better with trinkets! Anyway, if you need me, I'll be emotionally processing the fact that we only got to eat here once. Can't wait to come back!

If that doesn't suit you, perhaps a sandwich of rotisserie chicken where the combined depth of the bread is roughly six times the height of the chicken. If I were to return and, in all seriousness, I would if others in the group persisted; I would order the chicken tenders where you are able to define where the chicken begins and the batter ends. Oh, the staff is a real positive and the decor and service outstanding. Games are available to play. The staff picks up the tables instead of you and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.

It was nice and crispy and not overly oily like some places. 10/10 for the chicken. But as for the sides, I was pretty disappointed. The Mac and cheese tasted like butter noodles with no cheese. The greens were pretty okay, but a little too salty. The side of toast went well with the meal so that was nice. The fries, not so much. They were pretty flavorless. I was then pretty shocked when I got my mild sauce and it was basically sweet and sour? Maybe I don't know my sauces but I was not expecting that. I was also sad to see my banana pudding was missing that I was looking forward to so sadly I don't have a review for that. If I were to ever go back I'd only go for the chicken. They also have yams but I didn't try those. My partner tried a gyro and was pretty sad that it was tiny/flavorless. BUT, he loved the chicken. I also recommend ordering ahead if you can and doing take out. Everything is made to order so it takes a bit to make and there's only one small table so it's not really fit for groups or sitting down. While waiting for my meal I got bored and went over to the gas station this store is connected to and bought a soda and a couple of lottery tickets. I was a winner winner chicken dinner as they say!! WARNING POSITIVELY DELICIOUS AND ADDICTING…read more WHO ELSE TRIED TO COME IN HERE TO TRY A DONUT AND LEFT WITH HALF THE DONUTS IN THERE!?! It was my wife's birthday. And like many of us, we definitely didnt prepare ahead of time for our partners birthday because thats life right? (We are impulsive forgetfuls) I had already went to 4 different pastry shops that had vegan items before I came here and NONE were prepared for me. It was raining, heavier that I thought it would so I was already drenched walking in the rain to 4 other locations. I thought, "last stop on the list", checking my watch and determining that 3 hours around Madison was good enough. I walked inside to what I felt was smaller than I realized but in a cute mom and pop kind of way. People were cycling in and out so I had time to study prices and menu. And the donuts took me by surprise. All these beautiful donuts. Long johns, chocolate, fruity filled, dubai chocolate, you name it. I thought what many probably didnt "wow for vegan this is cheap!" Then it hit me: this wave over sugar tooth goodness and I had to get one of each. I didnt care the price! And just like that...two big boxes worth of donuts were brought home. And guess who only got one of them because it was that delicious that their wife decided to "my precious" them and hide them? Yeah im that guy. So yeah, enjoy this lovely tasteful place. Fluffy beautifully enriched sweet tasting donuts that won't make you feel this nauseating full normal donuts give, but a sense of excitement.

The inside of the shop is very clean and cute as well, with some seating options inside. I highly recommend this place for some amazing donuts!
