In town for a concert. Decided to check out the local bakery. Service was fantastic. Woman behind the counter talked me through my decision making process. She was kind, patient and talkative. 5 stars Atmosphere: kind of a strip mall mext to a gas station. Clean inside and out. No seating inside. Beautiful, well displayed goods. Easy to find and parking is sufficient. 4 stars Baked goods: while not the best bakery i have been to (I have been to a few), this one had a very strong showing, especially for a very small town. I had a few things. 1. Small bite sized chocolate cake (don't remember the name). 5 stars. The best value and in a small package. Raspberry fold over. Fresh and light and tangy. I really enjoyed this one. 4.5 stars. Lemon bar was solid but not anything exceptional. 4 stars. Pecan sticky bun was also solid but a little dry for me. 4 stars. A coconut dish that looked like an ice cream scoop of coconut on a bed of dark chocolate. I wish it had a higher chocolate to coconut ratio...maybe dipped in chocolate instead of drizzle on top? Other than that, it was really good. 4.5 stars. My friend enjoyed his cinnamon roll and also loved the bite sized chocolate cake. 4.5 stars. Very well done. read more

Ive never been to a bakery where items don't show pricing until I went here. Ive been to many bakeries and have never had this type of experience. The person behind the counter that day was not very helpful and she seemed inconvenienced by me being there and asking many questions that wouldn't have occurred if they simply showed pricing in the case. Not racing to go back here not only because of this experience but the treats I did purchase tasted old, dry, not fresh or worth what I paid for them. read more

This bakery has it all. If you're craving it you're likely have it such as: cookies galore, doughnuts, cakes, even fruitcake (at Christmas). I was thrilled to find pecan crescent cookies here, as I couldn't find any in Madison. They had the standard powdered sugar variety as well as iced and chocolate dipped. And they taste delicious! out wandering across southern Wisconsin on the last warm day in December and wound up in Lake Geneva. kind of cool out for lakey activities and I needed a little something that wouldn't spoil my dinner. so yeah, bakery! several cases of fresh baked goods plus a tall cooler for frosted cakes and other flights of whimsy and a little table of day-olds beside for the budget conscious. so many ways to get distracted between the cookies and doughnuts; the coffee cakes, cupcakes, and other cakes; the pies, bars, slices and on and on and on... and it all looked so good :-) after some hemming and hawing I decided on two cherry danish that were delightful with coffee way too early in the morning and a pair of artisan tarts that were too delicate for the plane ride home, too much jostling about left me with a bag of fruit filling and pastry crusts which isn't such a bad thing I suppose... I'm not sure I'd make the trip back just for bakery but if I'm near the area again I'll likely stop in to sample the wares. read more

Bittner's Bakery has been around Lake Geneva as long as I can remember, but it had been a couple years since I stopped in so I decided to check it out again last week! I knew I loved the thumbprint-time cookies, so I was excited to see their was one package of them left in a Saturday early afternoon. The cookie and chocolate were the perfect texture, and they were as tasty as I remember!! It also happened to be my sister's birthday, so I totally appreciated that they had a handful of birthday cupcakes available that could be bought individually. It was the perfect little add-on gift! THE BUTTER COOKIES!!! I'm always on the hunt for some quality cookies from small bakeries. These definitely pass the test and are superb! I loved the cookies--especially any that were chocolate-dipped. This bakery always has phenomenal output, despite its small size. The only downside is that I noticed they weren't really adhering to the limit they placed on how many people could be here at once. The staff also weren't wearing masks at all times, though they did put on masks when packing the cookies. read more

Looking for a good old fashioned local bakery ...you are at the wrong spot. Bittners can keep their new "Chicago Prices". Sadly they now provide half the product at twice the cost and service with a "bitter attitude"! Bittners used to be a " tried & true, delicious old fashioned friendly bakery". Unfortunately they now cater Strictly to the tourists & their apparently wide open wallets! If you want good old fashioned donuts, prices and friendly service go to Piggly Wiggly( the local grocery store- yes it's a chain , but it's got all the auspices of being a good " local" shop). It is only short distance from Bittners. The donuts are just a good, if not better, twice the size and 1/2 the cost! Plus, they recently opened a coffee bar so you can get a decent cup of coffee or tea, too. I was shocked after questioning the $3.00 cost of a small donut, I was told "people from Chicago love the donuts and can't believe how cheap they are!" WHAT???? This is Wisconsin, people come from Chicago to get Away from Chicago! I was then told I could go to Pick & Save or Walmart for less expensive donuts.Not quite service with a smile :( But I will heed their direction And so I shall go elsewhere. For years I was a loyal patron & encouraged many people to support the "local bakery". I weathered the initial price increases after Covid, but they are now absurd, particularly given the fact the donuts are SIGNIFICANTLY smaller & the attitude terrible. Please save the story line the price of flour has gone up...300%+?? A bad attitude at a bakery? Short sided is Bittners approach to cater to " the Chicago tourists" pocket books. A solid business plan might have revealed it is the " locals that would be supporting the business in the fall, winter & spring". Perhaps a balance in their target market would ensure a profitable business. Sadly Bittners has disregarded and underestimated the wisdom and support of their once loyal locals. Bottom line: Enjoy a really good old fashioned fairly priced donut at Piggly Wiggly ...served with a smile. And, if you are a Chicago tourist, you can even pick up a Piggly Wiggly tee shirt ( they don't sell those in Chicago)! read more

This was an adorable spot with friendly staff. It was hard to pick out what I wanted because it all looked so good. I recommend the chocolate donut and apple fritter! Both fantastic. I'm taking off one star only because, despite state mandate, there were two guests inside without masks and one employee behind the counter without a mask. We waited outside, and when the guests left, she put her mask back on. We reluctantly went inside afterwards, and the food was delicious!! They provided my wedding cake through a wedding package I had with the Maxwell Mansion. It was vanilla cake with raspberry filling. It was amazing! We had a lot left but unfortunately had to leave it in the trunk of our car at the airport for a week. I expected it to bake all dried out but it was still good!! I don't even know where to begin..... I ordered a custom birthday cake a few months back. It was for 4th of July weekend. I sent a detailed email with a photo of the cake we wanted. The cake decorator gave a quote so I placed my order. When I picked up the cake this weekend what I got had me baffled. Can't believe what they came up with. The cake I received didn't look anything like what we had originally talked about. I spoke to the owner and she said I was not specific about what I wanted. I told her I had send a cake Inspo pic and instead of apologizing she kept making excuses. Thank god there was a customer waiting behind me and got involved and voiced her opinion about how my cake was lacking a whole lot of decor based on the picture I originally sent. The owner then finally took my cake to the back and worked on it for almost an hour and it still looked nothing like what I ordered. I'd skip this bakery for custom cakes....... read more

We ordered a birthday cake from here. It was very delicious. The decor that came with it was pretty. The decorator and baker did a good job. It was ready for pickup at the time requested. We wish the cake had more filling. It was one super thin strip of raspberry filling so you could mainly only taste the cake and the buttercream. Amazing pecan pie bars. We were all marveling at the crust. I thought the brownie looked amazing in the case and was not disappointed. Cake-like brownie with creamy frosting. We went to this bakery this morning. It was filled with delicious donuts, pastries and muffins for the perfect morning treat. We picked up a dozen assorted donuts and blueberry muffins. Everything we ordered turned out to be spectacular! I really think it is the best donut I've had in a really long time. The donuts are fresh and pillowy and it is hard to stop at just one! Bittner's Bakery is my weakness and addiction. Their butter cookie assortment gets me every time. Then, the delectable hand crafted desserts like the gourmet cupcakes and cannoli are out of this world. The cakes? I can't even tell you about their cakes without wanting to run there with a fork as they are the best and most agonizingly beautifully prepared masterpieces that have graced my tastebuds. Besides their tasty treats the girls that work their and the owners are all amazing. They all know be by name and call me when my favorites are in. It is nice to be treated like family by a family establishment. I've been to other bakeries that have good stuff but this bakery has the best treats and the best staff.
