I was a bit disappointed given the hype here on Yelp. It was simply ok. The strength of my rating lies in their maple bar (or long john, as they call them here in the Midwest). It's hard to find one around here anyway--in all the time I've lived in Chicago I have only found them a few times, and usually they have a stop of bacon on them (yuck), so finding one that was true to origins made me happy. And it was pretty good! It was pretty fluffy, and I've had ones that are much more dense and not as tasty. The cinnamon roll was just ok. I think that's mostly because I didn't like the icing; I think it was a pretty simple one made of powdered sugar, but I prefer a different type. The maple frosted fritter was disappointing. The woman working was nice enough. They did have lots of items to choose from and I couldn't decide so that's why I got a few things to haves a few bites of each. The price was outstanding, and that was nice too! They have lots of breads here, as well as hamburger and hot dog buns, and if I was heading to a picnic I'd get some to take along. read more

This bakery does not disappoint! Everything I bought there was great! I originally stopped to only try their cream-filled chocolate covered donuts. But of course while waiting in line I was overtaken by a bakery trance....I ended up with a loaf of whole-wheat sandwich bread, a bag of snickerdoodle cookies, a bag of chocolate chip cookies and four cream-filled donuts. The whole take was only around $17.00. Incredible price and incredible product! It's a good thing I don't live nearby.... read more

Stopped here on a whim so my son could get a donut. He choose a cream puff and I had a cinnamon role. Both were awesome. We had planned to save some to take home but we ate them all right away. read more

World famous Southern Wisconsin Bakery. The retail space is small but the flavor and selection is huge. Stopped in here while visiting the city and grabbed an elephant ear. The bakery is small and designed only for pickups, there is no seating but everything is fresh and it smells good in here. This is apparently a bakery with history that has been doing the same products for a very long time. Where it lacks in innovation it makes up for tried and true recipes that work and have been working for many decades. The lady at the counter was forthright with what she knew about the city and about her store, which was refreshing and informative. read more

Wanted a small business donut shop on my way home from a work trip and this popped up on the map. I'm very glad I stopped. It's a small storefront with curb parallel parking along the street. I don't have much of a sweet tooth but this place is pretty impressive. It's the size of a closet, but it's crammed full of all sorts of goodies. I had a cinnamon roll which for 80 cents was really good. there was cinnamon bread and doughnuts that looked amazing as well. Too bad they close at 3pm on Saturdays and aren't open at all on Sundays because I probably would have stopped in again. It seems to be a popular place, but there are some items that look like they have been sitting around. I'm not from WI, so when I do make my way here from NYC it is definitely on my to do list. My BF and his family got me hooked on their tasty treats. Their chocolate chip crescents, bismarks(?), sugar cookies, the pasties (I think that's what they are called? They have meat and potato in them) add alms ketchup and hot sauce on those, they to from delicious to amazing!!! I love everything there!!! Everything there is worth a try! read more

I didn't come in under ideal circumstances, so I'm rating maybe a little higher than I may have otherwise to offset that. We wanted a full breakfast at another restaurant on the street and it wasn't open, so it wasn't really a "ooh let's get donuts" type of morning. This place is small and very charmingly old-fashioned. Unfortunately I didn't recognize about half of the pastries and donuts on offer here, maybe it's an out of state thing? I really had no idea what most of them were and there were no labels to help out with that. I am curious if Quality Bakery has one particular specialty, as I see many items named among the reviews. Prices were low and I was able to get a simple cup of coffee as well. My donut wasn't memorable at all, it's just been a couple of days and I have no idea what I even ordered...but my husband really liked his frosting-filled donut. read more

I didn't grow up in WI but my mom is native of Dodgeville and i remember her always talking about Quality Bakery Chocolate Bismarcks when I was young. I have now lived in Iowa county for over 23 years and absolutely love stopping in to Quality Bakery for their Bismarcks and other goodies. Their hamburger buns and rolls are perfect. They also make amazing sheet cakes. The smells wafting out the door make it hard living right around the corner. Traditional American Bakery. Great ingredients. Hand made. A very clean place. This place has been open since, I think, 1930, seriously. They deserve it. I'm glad that the WM neutron bomb did not close this place, as I've seen so many close over the years in this downtown. The only, and I mean only, thing they could change is to put brat buns in smaller packs. I had to buy a big box, but only needed four. Not a deal-breaker, I still bought them. Pasties: delicious, excellent crust, seasoned just right. Warm. Yeah, and the brat buns were excellent...made other sandwiches with them the next day. My boss LOVES this place so when I was driving past Dodgeville, I made the stop to get him a few bismarks. He thinks they're the best thing in this world. They're good but I'm not a huge chocolate fan. I got 2 fold overs and I haven't had anything like them. They're very good. Bossman certainly talked up Quality Bakery but after tasting their other products, it's well worth the 2 hour drive! Awesome place in a great town! read more

I absolutely LOVE this bakery! It is definitely a diamond in the rough. I stop at bakeries everywhere-big cities and small towns all over the country. This is by far my absolute favorite! Simple,delicious, American. The apple turnover is amazing; seriously if you are within a 25 mile radius it's worth the drive just for the apple turnover. They have these cinnamon crispy thin cookie/pastry things that are so much better than the nonsense they sell at Walmart. And for under a dollar!! Why ever settle for those horrific Walmart bakery items again? This is a 4th generation family bakery that's been in business for 90 years. PLEASE stop in when you are in the area. You won't regret it, I PROMISE. The building itself is delightfully deceiving. You'd never know the tastiest treats you've ever had are hiding in there. read more

Hmm, maybe you are just used to processed cookies that last 3 weeks? I have never heard any complaints, and every time I bring some in at various places I hear nothing but great things. My kids love them, and the Bismarks are amazing. And is it really necessary to bring in "Was really good a long time ago and they are surviving on legendary memory" Really? Quality Bakery is the place to go for delicious sweets in Dodgeville. Their Strawberry Angel Food Cake is the best (frosting is very thick and creamy with strawberries). Their rhubarb popovers are #1 in my book. read more

Hmmm...not sure if the prior 2 reviewers have really bad bakeries in Milwaukee or what? Locals really seem to like this place too, though. I"m guessing it's because they don't know better? Maybe Quality Bakery was really good a long time ago and they're just surviving on that legendary memory? What a jewel of a bakery! Variety of baked goods is wonderful. The quality & freshnes is exceptional. The cinnamon loaf was tightly rolled & provided lots of great cinnamon. The yummy nut rolls are closer to a pure dessert. This bakery was an unexpected find on a rainy Monday afternoon on Sept. 21, 2009, while passing through Dodgeville.
