He is honest and straight forward, much different from a company whose name rhymes with funrun and several other big Bay Area outfits. The installation was clean and neat - no conduit showing on the roof. The installers were obviously experienced and took pride in their work. The office staff responses quickly and knowledgeably . In 2014 I called Greenstock Solar and spoke with David Peterson about getting an estimate for solar panel installation. He showed up on time and gave me a very competive bid which we accepted. The job was completed and I have been enjoying 10 years of trouble free solar power but now I have to put on a new roof and the panels have to be removed and reinstalled after the new roof is completed. I spoke to David several times about the timing of the new roof and when I was ready I was unable to contact him either by company phone, mobile phone or email. I left several messages and no one answered my calls. I am very disappointed at the very poor response of Greenstock to my request of Solar Servicing of the panels they installed. Five stars for honesty - I did not end up getting solar panels because Green Stock was the first company to tell me my roof wasn't a good candidate for solar. Green Stock was the third solar quote I got and the owner came by (not a sales person) and he was the first one to tell me my roof was not a good candidate for solar because it has vents running down the middle (he said he would want to put the panels a minimum distance away from the vents so they don't shade the panels, and this extra space needed made it so my roof wasn't big enough to accommodate the number of panels needed) and plus has two big trees shading the south side. The other two companies I got quotes from had access to the same info and did not bring up those issues at all! read more

We agonized about getting solar since we don't have perfect exposure. But we decided to bite the bullet. Green Stock Solar was a great company to work with. They use SunPower panels (rated the most efficient.) David Peterson came out right away after we requested a quote and explained the whole process thoroughly. The crew who did the installation was fabulous. Our only complaint is with PG&E - they have changed the Net Metering program to make solar less cost effective. So, do your homework on Net Metering 2.0! Note: 2019 is the last year to get the federal 30% credit. (Credit declines gradually over the next few years.) read more

This is a delayed review but better late than never... I had my initial install of 9 panels done by Green Stock Solar in the summer of 2016. David was recommended by one of my friends and he had the best price among all the installers I interviewed. Jae, the person who handles the price, contract and external communications, stayed on top of the whole process. The install was done professionally and inspected and passed by the Fremont city inspector without any issue. Fast forward to early 2018... I added 5 more panels myself next to the original 9 panels. David and Jae were willing to sell me some of the parts needed. I would have incurred very high shipping fee if it weren't because of them. After the installation, Janie helped me update the Enphase webpage with the correct total panel count and configuration, all for free. We first started doing our research into solar year's ago and due to the complexity of the industry, the brash sales approach by some companies and feeling uneasy about the outcome, we held off on making it happen. This year we were determined was the year and did our research, got 4 competing quotes and when we met David with Green Stock we knew we found our guy. The other 3 quotes were the typical BIG name companies and none of them could compete with David for his price, service, and speed to install and turning on. We heard all the horror stories from friends and family members but from the time we signed the contract and paid our deposit to being interconnected with PGE was 6 weeks and this included an electrical panel upgrade, that David facilitated with his vendor. David did a solar system for a close friend and was HIGHLY recommended. He invests significant time not only understanding and proposing a system to meet your needs but also takes pride in educating you on the underlying technology, options, and reasons for his specific recommendations. In the end, he advised that the ROI for our house just did not make sense due to the already tall redwoods that would only get taller. It is not every day that you get an honest recommendation and someone like David that is willing to take the time to educate you. Your search for a Solar contractor should end here... if you are lucky. Like Tom P from the previous post, I spent countless hours researching solar and got at least a dozen quotes. Compared with the solar city (slime ball) deals and also looked at doing this myself with Chinese made parts. I had almost signed up with a guy who was working out of his backyard, and was unbelievably expensive. Then I luckily found David and my search was over. He's the best contractor i have had the pleasure of working with - Solar and overall. His value/price was unbeatable. He's very dependable and REALLY knows his stuff. He got me the best in class equipment and his installation was very professionally done. If you are considering getting solar and have not yet signed a contract, i highly recommend you talk to him. Also ask him for references and talk to others who have worked with Dave. I had asked for a couple of references and everyone was so positive about Dave and team that i couldn't imagine using anyone else. Two of the companies did not write up estimates that included the quality, production, and specifications of materials that we were looking for. One was rather high pressure. We found significant errors in the plans from two companies. Green Stock took the time to find out exactly what we needed and custom designed an affordable but high quality and high yield system. Another major far in our decision was that I feel strongly about supporting local businesses, provided that both quality and cost factors are equal. David, the owner of Green Stock, was exceptionally conscientious and proved to be efficient, prompt and courteous. All work was done in a timely manner, without creating a mess in the yard. Dave from Green Stock Solar was great to work with. He and his team just put a 2.5kW system (10 panels) on our Albany home, and they did a great job. We got several quotes from other solar companies that ranged wildly even though they were all quoting for the exact same components (brand and model). I found a posting for Green Stock Solar on Craigslist and decided to give them a call. In the end, Dave gave us a bid over the phone that was several thousand dollars cheaper than competitors. I was a little skeptical at first, and when we met to talk over the bid I kept looking to see if he was cutting corners somewhere. I looked over his plan, his hardware, and his installation methods carefully - all excellent quality, and as good or better than the other outfits I got bids from. The equipment is warrantied for 25 years; labor for 10. He's licensed and insured. He uses experienced installers. He has an A- rating from BBB. Everything is check plus. When I asked him why his quote was lower than the others, he explained that he doesn't have a marketing team, or an ad campaign, or salesmen who work on commission. He passes that savings on to the customer. Maybe that's true, or maybe he's an eccentric billionaire who just likes giving people great deals on their solar systems. Either way, we saved a bundle and he did an excellent job. He was relaxed, friendly, honest and professional. He took care of all of the permits, and we passed inspection without a hitch. The whole process took less than 2 weeks, and the installation only took a day. By that afternoon, we were already producing more power than we were using. In short, we couldn't be happier with Green Stock Solar and HIGHLY recommend them. read more

I wish I had discovered Greenstock last year when I moved to Napa and had Phoenix Solar install a solar system with batteries because that company went bankrupt before I had final approval to run. It was quality equipment and ran OK, but I was surprised, that it did not seem to be producing the power I expected. Well late last week it stopped producing solar at all and I knew the problem had to be my panels or my Enphase converters, but I had no support from an installer. I tried to download and use Enphase's apps but quickly found out that Phoenix never registered my equipment with Enphase and I did not have the serial numbers for the inverters to register. So using Enphase's recommended installer list I found Greenstock near the top of the list and the only installer in Napa. I called Dave the owner and he came out yesterday to troubleshoot and repair my system and also to collect the information required by Enphase to register my system. He quickly got the system up and running and then lifted each solar panel to record the serial number of the associated inverter. Doing this he discovered that one of my 2 parallel groups of inverters were not connected properly and so 7 of my panels were never operational! He continued to trouble shoot and found a miswired connection and other lose connections. He corrected all these issues before leaving that day increasing my generated power by as much as 48%. He promised he would submit the required data to Enphase to get me access to their monitoring tools. He said it would take a few days, but he called the next morning and told me Enphase already uploaded the data he provided and I could start monitoring my system. The things David found were not obvious and required crawling around the attic to trace down why the proper voltages were not being seen at the combiner. When he found bad connections he took the trouble to rework them so that they made solid connections and were properly sealed and safe. It is obvious that David has extensive experience to be able to quickly solve the problem. As an added note, not knowing about the wiring problem, and not having the Enphase tools which would have told me 7 panels were not properly connected, I had considered adding 7 solar panes to my system. Now that everything is properly working I no longer need to consider this as I have nearly doubled my output and should most likely cover nearly 100% of my power needs. Therefore I am saving thousands of dollars. Dave will continue to provide me Enphase support as needed in the future. In an industry where there are so many installers who will go bankrupt leaving you holding the bag or worse yet not do quality work, you have to look past the sales pitch and make sure you have someone who has done many installs, has good reviews, and has been in business for many years. David checks all the boxes and I would not hesitate to recommend him, and in fact, gave his card to my neighbor across the street. read more

We started thinking about solar when we spoke to a solarcity rep at home depot. After an appointment, we got quotes for the leasing and buying options. I didn't like the idea of leasing. We didn't have money to buy the system. Then we got estimates from two other installers we found from yelp. So, we decided to skip the solar upgrade. I found greenstock solar through an ad from craigslist. I called David Peterson and scheduled an appointment. David gave me a quote for a 14 panel system with micro-inverters. Although his price was lower than all the other quotes I got earlier, I still didn't have the money to get this done. A few months later (after tax returns) I called David back. Unfortunately his rates had gone up in the mean time. It was now a few hundred bucks extra for the same system. The price was still reasonable and we decided to proceed with the install. David applied for the permits with the city of Fremont. He warned me that it might take upto 8 weeks to get the permit because the city of Fremont had a bad reputation for processing speed. Our permit was approved in three weeks and we were ready for install. The installation was scheduled for two days, but the guys were quick and got it done in a day. Unfortunately the inspector wanted to have a look at the roof underneath the panels and he asked them to remove the system. The inspector came back twice (the next day) and everything went smooth. The system has been running good for about two months now. I'll have to wait and see how it goes in the long run. tldr; I strongly recommend greenstock solar. read more

Green Stock Solar installed our system about 3 years ago. When we realized we needed a new roof, Green Stock returned to our Vacaville home and removed the panels and rails. Working closely with our roofing company, after the roof was stripped, Andy placed the new stanchions. The roofing company flashed everything to meet the new roof guarantee requirements. Andy and two of his co-workers returned after the roof was completed to re-install the rails and panels and to re-hook up the system. They arrived when they said they would and were gentle on our new roof. It's good to see the solar working again. Before signing with a solar company, try to find out if they are willing to follow up with service should it be needed. Ask if they have a succession plan in the event they go out of business for any reason. Your solar system could last 25 years. If the company doesn't continue to service the system, the likelihood is no other solar company will. read more
