This review is difficult. My system works well and Dan was awesome. Graham not so much. My system was installed only 4 inches off the roof deck, which I believe is standard. HOWEVER, because of that leaves and debris were caught up under the panels, causing a big time fire hazard. Graham did not care. He built it to code, and that was all he was required to do. When I tried to get him to mitigate, he wanted another $1500, after already charging 72K. He did not care that the system was causing a fire hazard. The company also billed me for the 72K before the system was approved by PGE, which they were not supposed to do. Approval from PGE was also a nightmare, and I'm not sure how much they pushed since they got paid early. I'm not sure I would choose them again. The system works well, but if you have anything abnormal, you will be milked for extra $$. read more

We cannot say enough good things about our experience with Northern Pacific Power Systems (NPPS)! Like most homeowners, we tried to do our due diligence when we embarked on this project, and we ended up meeting with three companies. Two of those were standouts, but what ultimately tipped the scale for us was our initial meeting with Tory, our energy advisor with NPPS. He was detailed and thorough and presented not only a system that met all of our energy requirements, but it was also aesthetically the most appropriate for our home! I had literally asked the prior two companies to put all of our panels on our back roof and was told that it was NOT possible as we would sacrifice too much production. Well, enter Tory who opens up his design proposal and had designed (without us asking) exactly what we wanted and had all the science and math to back it up! We were sold and our interaction from there forward was spectacular- the process is complicated and takes a few months but their team has it mapped out to the tiniest details from day one. Every once in awhile we'd think, "oh when does x or y happen?" And we could open up the very first email they sent and find the timeline and explantation. And if we needed information, they answered the phone and are just the nicest, most helpful people, including Adaggio and Caitlin in their office. Our installation was coordinated by Devin, who made it simply seamless. His crew of installers, led by their electrician Colton as well as Zachary and Juan, were so efficient and skilled, we barely even knew they were here! Overall, it was a super busy time for NPPS and we felt like we were their only clients in the world. I don't usually do reviews but I will here because I feel this is a great company to work with. We did a major solar project (~$300k) with NPPS, largely because Graham Beverly pointed out to us that there was an opportunity we could capitalize on that others missed. That was huge. Iterating back and forth on the proposal configuration and other contractual points with Graham was relatively painless. Then the installation led by Devin and team was great too. The truth is that the whole project was frustrating in the sense that it took several more months than expected to get to "go live", but most of that was on PG&E and other parties. Meanwhile the NPPS team was helpful and responsive. My advice is go with NPPS, but be prepared to be patient with the whole solar project because much of it is out of your hands due to the black holes of permitting and PG&E. read more

These guys are the best, hands down. I know that they do projects of every shape and size, and I can only speak to mine, which was quite custom. They were able to install a large ground mount system for us, figure out some big complexities (like how to mount above an existing PG&E easement which they secured their cooperation with, or recognizing that they could use hundreds of feet of abandoned existing conduit to save us money on trenching), and make us effectively "off-grid" all year round (with some light energy savings if needed in Dec & Jan). They came in within range of the other bids that we got, except that those other companies all operated high pressure "boiler room" sales teams that were just interested in getting us to sign on the dotted line with plenty of change orders coming down the road. Throughout the project they were by far the most knowledgeable, in touch, on time, friendly, and efficient of any contractors we've ever worked with. We couldn't recommend them more highly! In fact we've recommended them to several other friends, and they've done 3 projects within our social circle -- one fairly standard project in Marin (with a nice twist -- they were able to squeeze out significant extra performance with a clever design), one large installation in Marin, and another ground-mount in Sonoma. You won't find a more knowledgeable or qualified installer that also will keep the project moving as quickly and smoothly as possible with expansive knowledge of permitting, rebates, incentives, etc. Highly recommended! read more

Began to get solar bids from several companies and learned to be wary of hidden costs, buy down of interest rates and lack of qualified reviews. The county has a list of approved contractors and along with my daughters recommendations who was very pleased with them contracted with Northern Power. They began by providing clear time lines, cost breakdowns and introduced us to their team approach of customer support. Very pleased how they followed up on the county requirements for permits and other documents. We have had our system with a battery for outages for one year now. We are extremely happy with our system. It works great and we are not buying electricity from PGE even during this current heat surge. We love to monitor our electricity use on the app on our phone. A few years ago we wanted to install roof top solar. Our roof is very choppy and we had a lot of thermal (pool) solar. I looked at yelp and friend recommendations and I was encouraged to contact NPPS. I spoke to Graham and explained our pool solar and roof situation. Also gave him our PG&E billing info. He googled earthed our house. Graham told us based on our available roof space, he felt they could not install a beneficial system for us. NPPS would not do a system. Graham was great and professional. I was amazed a business would decline a job because it would not be beneficial for the customer. So fast forward to a couple years ago. We knew we needed to go with solar and I contacted NPPS. I worked with Sebastian the designer. We came up with a plan to remove a lot of pool solar to accommodate the electric solar. Sebastian was great to work with. Alex was our project manager and our solar was in motion. There wasn't a question I had that Alex didn't answer. He walked us through the process Come install day I met a great crew. Juan 1 was the lead with Juan 2 and Junior. What I learned very quickly is these guys are beyond detail oriented. There goal was never to have the electrical galvanized piping stretch across the roof and down the sides of the house. Well they didn't. I encourage anyone looking for a solar company to drive through their neighborhood. If you see a home with solar with ugly conduit running across the roof and sides of the house, you know NPPS did not do the job. So solar was installed great customer support. I learned a few months ago that with an approved medical device (PG&E medical baseline) there is a $27,200 rebate available for battery backup. Well we were in. I reached out to Sebastian who designed the system. NPPS handled all the PG&E rebate, permits ect. A few weeks ago the crew showed up for the install. I need to say we had a separate project that required a city inspector to sign off on a permit. I mentioned I'd see him in a couple weeks for our battery final. He told me "NPPS is a great company. As far as I'm concerned they could sign off on their own work. They are that good." So the crew arrived. Juan 2 was the lead with Colton and Bill was the electrician. The professionalism and attention to detail was outstanding. They took the time to explain to me the home owner the system as they were installing it. Alex was again our project manager. No surprise they did an incredible job. Alex came out after completion and walked us through our battery app. He and Bill before made sure to show us how to hook up our generator in a power outage when solar wasn't generating to charge our batteries to run the house. This is by far the longest Yelp review I've ever done. I felt it was important to share my experience with a great local company who absolutely cares about their customers. From the first interaction with the salesmen (Graham and Luke) coming to our home right up until I dropped the check off today(9/12/2023) the customer service has been impeccable. When we signed up, we were told it was at least several months before installation due to a large backlog. We were kept informed as to their schedule, installation dates and finals. When they came to install, I stayed home so they could get in the house. After the first day I realized I easily could have just left the house open for them & that's saying saying something! I was nervous to get solar because you hear such mixed experiences with the process and companies out there but a neighbor recommended NPPS and after evaluating a few companies we went with them. They were knowledgable and thorough. In particular our sales person, Russel answered all of our questions and made us feel well supported. Our project manager Alex was responsive and helpful as well. Installation was smooth and now our system is generating power and we are very happy! Additionally, Russel took the time to explain our new energy bill in full post sale and said we can call him for years to come which is above and beyond what I would expect from a "typical" sales person. Well, good news first or bad news? Good news: Russell, your first contact with Northern, is amazing. SO knowledgeable! Just brilliant. He cinched the for me for sure. But things went quickly downhill after the contract was signed. These guys SUCK at communicating! They don't reply to repeated voicemails or emails seeking information. If you don't care anything about the process or the numerous steps that have to happen to make this happen, then you'll be fine. But if, like me, you want to know what is going on, you're not gonna get that here. A simple list or flow chart of what happens when would have been a simple solution. I was required to get HOA approval (a 30-day added delay) before installation could begin, but despite repeated attempts to get a timeline of the design recommendation, I never received one. The design just showed up one day. Every person that came out to install something at different points had a binder of my project. Where was MY binder? I mentioned my concerns and my wishes to every person that came out. They all said they'd take those concerns back to the office. Unfortunately nothing ever changed! I would get text messages early in the day stating someone would be coming out that day! Good thing I'm retired and could be immediately available, otherwise this would have taken even longer than the four months and counting it is taking. I got a text on a Sunday when I was not at home, "I'm in the neighborhood, I need your login and password to activate your system. Can I stop by?" All that said, I'm delighted with the end product. The people that did the installation of panels (Juan Carlos and crew), and batteries (contractor Tyler Guillory) and inspections (Mark) were exceptional. But project management was woefully lacking; the worst I've experienced with a project of this scale. And customer communications are nonexistent, unless you consider the constant, multiple invoicing as communicating. So if you decide go with them, be sure you get ALL the specifics in great detail up front before you sign a contract because you'll never hear from them unless they're asking for money. read more

I got 3 estimates for a roof-top solar system. All were within reason of one another. I chose NPPS because they are headquartered in Santa Rosa where I live, and they are an ESOP. My experience was very good. What they said and quoted they lived up to. The folks I dealt with were professional, respectful, and knowledgeable. I believe anyone should include NPPS as one of their candidates from which to choose. (For any project of this magnitude, one should always get at least 3 estimates.) We spoke to four different solar installers when we started looking into getting solar at the beginning of this year. Russel was our initial point of contact and meeting with him was so easy! He came by our home and spent about half an hour going over the various options they had using their software. This was a great and clear presentation of what the options and costs would be like and it was much more clear than some of the other companies. After looking at how the numbers played out we realized we wanted to move forward with solar sooner rather than later so we could take advantage of the federal tax credit of 30% while it is still available. Once we decided to move forward with the NPPS team things got moving quickly! Communication about our project was EXTREMELY clear. We were given a timeline of what to expect and when by Shelby and Adaggio. Everything moving forward was smooth, we had a site evaluation with Devon and then the design and permitting process which was fast! They got our permit in only one week. Our installation came sooner than we expected as well! Our project was on the smaller side (only 13 LG panels) and so it only took one day to install. Colten and Ramundo were our installers and they were great. They were very flexible with me and open to my opinion about the installation including where the conduit would be (not visible at all and in my garage) as well as where the combiner box would be placed. Once we had our final inspection and PGE turned on our Net Metering we were good to go! I love the control I get with the Enphase Microinverters and the Enlighten app. I was able to see clearly how our energy is produced throughout the day and we are already producing more electricity then we use. BONUS POINTS I wish I could give an extra star to Shelby for helping with our financing!!! When I started the loan process with Redwood Credit Union they asked us for a HUGE laundry list of documents and information. I forwarded this to Shelby and she took over immediately. She handled all of this for me and I didn't even have to send a check. RCU sent the check directly to the NPPS team. This experience has been so positive I really can't thank everyone involved enough. We are so happy with our solar project and our new independence from rising PGE costs. My solar project was completed about a month ago. I can't say enough about how great an experience it was. The team was very responsive to all my emails and calls (that's saying a lot since I'm pretty type A), they always had a great attitude (some of the other companies I spoke with while getting estimates I felt I needed a shower after speaking with them), and most importantly to me, were very detail oriented. The install looks great, and they even painted the conduit to match my house. Again, being type A I am a tough customer to please and normally find something to point out, but honestly it looks spectacular! You can tell they take pride in their work. We had NPPS install our solar panel and battery system and could not be HAPPIER with both the installation and customer service overall. We found all the folks to be helpful, courteous and respectful. They are knowledgeable and personable and we are so very glad we selected this company to do our project. Going with a local company was important to us especially after contacting some of the bigger, national companies who just wanted to sell us a package system and not one designed for our home and needs. And, we are so glad we have solar with the Enphase batteries as we are seeing the benefits energy-wise everyday. I had gotten several other quotes from other companies- out of all of them, Northern Pacific gave me the most competitive pricing and was not pushy about the sale. The thing that I appreciated the most was the total transparency that they offered- Elizabeth was honest with me about my energy needs and never tried to up-sell me on equipment I didn't need. I can HIGHLY recommend Northern Pacific Power Systems. I worked with them from the time of the PGE power shut offs in 2019 when I determined I did not want a generator but rather a year round system to provide power and not just when the grid would be shut down. They worked with me to design a system to my wants and needs. While everyone there is great I wanted to point out three of their team that I worked most closely with and who went the extra distance at all times. First is Addagio who spent a great deal of time from day one explaining how the system could and would work and always returned my calls or texts or emails when I had questions many of which were elementary and simple but all new to me. Secondly I would mention Allen who was the project manager who oversaw the permit process, installation and completion dealing extensively with the Santa Rosa Fire Department as well as the City of Santa Rosa building department. I made many changes during the process to make the system exactly what I wanted and Allen had the task of continually revising the plans and resubmitting them to the building department. He had great patience with me and never seemed to be frustrated but i am sure at times he was. Lastly I would be negligent not to mention the electrician Jake. He spent days at my house connecting batteries and installing N14-50 outlets to enable me to charge two electric vehicles.
