I've had a great solar power installation experience with Simply Solar. SS's customer rep, David Frank, patiently answered a million questions in easy-to-understand terms. He found many savings and benefit enhancements along the way. In spite of the solar credit expiring at the end of 2025, David put together an HDM plan far superior to anything I found when getting competing quotes. It simply lowered the cost without complicating ownership or savings or adding any ongoing cost. Speaking of competing quotes, they beat everyone else. All together, I saved about $20,000 without undue complication. Production Manager Jack kept me fully informed along the way. He always responded promptly and clearly to every query. He scheduled and completed the solar installation much earlier than promised. The installers also travelled a long distance outside of their service area to do the job in the Sierra foothills. So, even if you think your home is outside of their service area as shown on Yelp, you might give them a call and see if they can do it. Installer Gio and his team were excellent. Our panels were going on a tile roof and I had concerns about the L brackets pulling up the tiles as they slide under the downhill side of tiles. They ground channels into each of the affected tiles for these brackets so that the roof is still as water tight as a duck's a**. Gio, the electrician and main contact on site was both smart, friendly and patient in explaining the details while the solar panels, Tesla PowerWall batteries and solar inverter were installed. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM. This company operates in bad faith and will bait-and-switch you. I WILL BE REPORTING THEM TO BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU TODAY. We originally chose them a few years ago because they offered free solar panel removal and reinstallation when we eventually needed a roof replacement. The initial install went fine, but trying to get them to honor their contract now has been a nightmare. Bait and Switch: They are suddenly demanding a $3,600 fee for the removal. Even their salesperson admitted this fee was not indicated in our main agreement from 2021, but is now picking apart vague fine print (outside of our contract) to justify it. We have sent the contract over multiple times and asked them to highlight the language where it specifies this charge. Unethical leadership: Leadership is aware of this $3,600 gap, but they don't want to back down. Terrible Customer Service: They are dragging their feet and refusing to coordinate with our roofer, who has been consistently asking for dates to remove the solar. Ignored Emergencies: We explicitly told them we have an active roof leak and asked them to prioritize the removal so we could fix our home. They did not care. Once they finish your initial install, they will abandon you and refuse to give you the time of day. I am reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. If you are looking for solar, be very wary and look elsewhere. read more

Two very different experiences. 1. Installation: Great work! I live in Berkeley so permitting is a pain and requires layers of extra work. Simply solar designed, installed and got the system working flawlessly. They were personable, professional and overall great. 2. Post Installation: It's a roll of the dice. I had a panel go down in the first year and they were on it, emailed me about it and it ended up being a micro inverter I believe and it was fixed in two weeks. Now I've had 3 panels down (10 panel system) for about 2 months which they didn't know about. I e-mailed them in December about it and talked to a customer service guy who was nice but non committal. Then he was let go and now another non committal customer service person took the helm. I'm being told I'm weeks out. I'll let you know when it's fixed. read more

I agree with the reviewers who had bad experiences with Simply Solar's customer service after installation and wish I had known about them before choosing Simply Solar on the recommendation of a friend who used to work in that industry. I have had my system less than two years and it has already stopped production of Solar due to malfunctions with the SolarEdge inverter and backup interface. For the past twenty days, since I discovered it had stopped production, I have been trying to get them to repair it only to be extorted for labor costs which are clearly covered under warranty which they are not honoring. They are slow to respond to emails, don't answer the phone, and are unnecessarily delaying scheduling of repairs. They made lots of great sounding promises when they wanted our business. While I wait for them to get around to fixing my system, I'm getting big electric bills from PG&E. BTW my friend who made the referral also got screwed by them bc they now claim not to know anything about a referral fee they had promised to send him! read more

Update: 1/13 tech came out to fix the issues. After the job was done, he guaranteed me that the panels are in full working condition. Needless to say they are generating some power but not to full capacity. we have 26 panels on the house and it has full sun this since 1/13. We are currently generating 2.8 KWH per day. I called Sara back to pay the $3400 that I owed for them reinstalling the stanchions for the panels. When I received the invoice, I noticed that they charged an extra $200, so instead of $3400 I paid $3600. I called Sara back the next day. She was very apologetic and mentioned that she would reach out to finance right away and call me back with an update. Days passed with no communication once again. I called 1/16 to check on status. Was told that they would send a check in the mail for a refund. In regards to solar generation Sara mentioned that she was not able to check and see if all solar panels were working properly as she did not have access to the system. She also mentioned that we are on her list of things to follow up on but she has not had a chance to get to it. read more

We got interested in Solar when we added a heat pump and air conditioning and worked with three companies. Simply Solar had the best cost per Watt as well as an engineering approach to the design including their own support design and the use of one of the design software products. The installation was delayed by back ordered Tesla batteries, but one came in on the day they were installing the panels and infrastructure so they drove it down and the install was completed! The crew was friendly and patient with my questions and did very neat and professional work. We liked the fact their installers are employees. They are coordinating PGE and city inspections next. Installing a Solar system on my house was a great decision. I chose Simply Solar and have not regretted my decision at all. They did all the pre-planning. They drew up a plan on where to install different banks of panels. They reviewed my panel box. On installation day, they had a crew to do the panels, while the electrician replaced my panel box. By end of the day, everything was done. Everything was completed in one day and it all worked then, and still working now 2 years later. All that was left was to notify PG&E to turn on monitoring for solar. This went without a hitch My electric bill fell to almost nothing even as we run the air conditioning during warm months. Now as I look at my bill, i am only paying for the gas furnace (winter), and a small amount for transmission lines. To top it off, I recommended my sister to Simply Solar, and did get teh $1,000 referral fee. This has been one of he best decisions I have made as far as managing my house. I researched and talked with many solar companies before I chose Simply Solar based on their reviews. During the installation when they hadn't been paid fully they were responsive. What I didn't expect was the poor customer service after installation. Our first encounter was when we got audited by the IRS for the tax credit. The IRS wanted a manufacturer certification that the system was legit and installed by a reputable company. I was told (after calling numerous times and leaving messages with no call back) this document didn't exist. Our tax credit was reversed with penalties and interest. Several months later one of our inverters went out. I called for service. Again no call back. I finally reached Mark in customer service via email. I was told he would contact Solar Edge (the manufacturer) and find out how to solve the problem. I contacted Mark weekly for 6 weeks and was told in a not so nice way that I was on the list and I would have to wait for an appointment. After waiting another month for an answer and to get on the repair schedule, with no results, we called Solar Edge directly. While talking with Solar Edge we asked about the manufacturer certification.Turns out there is such a thing as a manufacturer certification which we sent to the IRS which satisfied them. At the time we asked Solar Edge for another company to service our system. We called them and they sent someone out the next day. I originally contacted Simply Solar on November 2nd and they are just now (January 8th) getting around to offering an appointment that is not a last minute cancellation for them. We had them install a Franklin whole-house solar battery. They tied it into our existing solar panels and worked with PG&E and city inspectors so all went smoothly. After installation they discovered it wasn't performing to spec and on their own sent out a tech to tweak the system. All in-person and email communications have been friendly and informative.
