It wasn't until we had to threaten the new homeowner with a lawsuit that SunFun finally transferred ownership. Due to this, we could not trust any of these solar companies...that is, until Kevin Bedard came to our home, and explained everything in great detail to my husband and I. He took the time to hear about our concerns, and he showed us how he truly cared. That same week, we spoke to two other families who shared their positive experiences about Ambrose Solar that made us feel that we would be in great hands. Any home renovation project has bumps, and this one had its fair share: after initial install they monitor the systems production remotely to see if it's doing what it's supposed to/expected to, and my system was initially under-performing. They caught it and sent out a team to problem solve it, which took a couple tries, but they didn't drag their feet, they kept on it and kept at it and got it resolved. It was no fault of theirs, just a technology glitch. Core fear was that they would give up after a couple failures and leave me following up with them to get it done, but I never had to worry about that. I also did not end up liking where they placed the control box- it was something that was going to make future maintenance of my house trim problematic down the line. They willingly moved it up a few inches for me (and my only complaint was the team that did that didn't patch the original hole as efficiently as they should have. If I had understood the box placement better on the first pass that would never have happened, so this is a bit of a complaint of my own making.) Jon Landsman, who sold me the system, stayed with us the whole time tracking the project, checking in, and following through on every detail, every question, every concern. He never made me feel like the demanding diva that I am, was always prompt and gracious! The bottom line is that start to finish, even with a few bumps in the road, I have zero question that this is a company that legitimately cares about doing what is right. He refused to discuss a power purchase agreement, instead he tried to force an outright solar panel purchase, which I made clear was not an option. He offered no apology and no clear explanations about his actions. Free advice: if you are not interested in the job, just say so politely. Don't be rude, discourteous, and unprofessional.

It is late September 2024. And we just saw our latest PG&E bill. YIKES!…read more We got a random door knocker that came by to inform us about solar. I had previously talked to SunRun via Costco and am pretty nerdy, so I had done some homework by now. The door knocker talked about solar and battery storage and gave us a quote. That quote would be better than SunRuns. In my research about that quote, I found several reddit posts about solar and specifically Tesla PowerWalls and their pros/cons and service. One thing that kept on popping up was that the actual battery and system is great, the service and parts can be more miss than hit. But there were these Ask Me Anything posts from a guy named Jeff. He provided great advice to everyone. People with general questions, to people with problems to people that had just about had it with Tesla support. What I took away from that was that Jeff was a great guy, very knowledgeable and very open to helping people, even if they were not his clients. This is the kind of person that I be if I were to run a business and someone that I would want to support. I looked on yelp and found Jeff and East Bay Power Systems. All of the reviews there were pretty emphatic about Jeff and EBPS. I called EBPS and promptly was given a quote. Their number was very fair. So now we're nearly at the end of November and we get another huge PG&E bill. Couple that with the new administration coming in and not knowing if the solar/storage incentives will go away after the new year, I call up Jeff again and not only is he able to source a PowerWall, while other companies said they are all out of stock, Jeff said that if I signed within the week, he would be able to have us installed before the end of the year. We promptly signed and the wait began... All of a sudden, the previously non existent rains started to fall and our install date was getting pushed out. I started to get nervous as I didn't know if we would actually get this installed in 2024 or not. I was anxious about the incentive and would call EBPS pretty regularly. 5 days before Christmas and there is finally a open window. The skies have mostly cleared and it was safe for their crew to be on a roof. The install crew lead by Eric show up on time, panels are delivered and the battery is on site. By mid day, they are almost done. If not for things that were out of their control, they would have been able to complete the whole job within the day. It took them 2. Still, very fast and very professional work. Eric is a top notch installer and lead. Come time for the permit inspection, there were very small things that the inspector found which is pretty typical; those were subsequently rectified and we got signed off. In the interim, there was a hardware issue with the PowerWall. And almost to a T, the interaction went just as I had read so many times over and over again on the various Reddit posts. EBPS came out and did some diagnosis but they were not able to fix the issue that day. It really was a PowerWall issue. So I was told by Tesla, after nearly an hour on hold that they would send a Tesla tech out to look at it, but it could be up to 3 months from now. I kept in touch with EBPS and they were able to secure another unit. In maybe a couple of weeks, they were back out. They removed the old PowerWall and installed a new one in a couple of hours. If it wasn't for EBPS, I would likely still be waiting for Tesla. Just as many of the reddit posts said, it really comes down to your local installer and their customer service and their ability to pull strings over at Tesla. It was at this time that I really was glad that I went with EBPS. Because I got the Tesla PowerWall and gateway, it would be very easy to also install a Tesla charger. I purchased a universal charger and I had EBPS install that as well. That went swimmingly. Other than a few communication issues, and the timing anxiety that was totally out of their control, this has been as all of the other 5 stars have lead me to expect. I would absolutely use EBPS in the future and would recommend them to my friends and neighbors.

I spoke with many contractors, and almost all of them sent salespeople who gave generic answers or tried to push cookie-cutter solutions that clearly didn't fit my setup. Carlos was completely different. From the moment he arrived, it was clear he wasn't a salesperson -- he's an engineer, and it shows. He took the time to deeply understand my system, reviewed actual spec sheets on the spot, and immediately identified issues that other contractors completely missed. Multiple companies told me Hyundai panels would work fine. Carlos checked the amperage limits, applied proper safety margin calculations, and clearly explained why those panels would not work with my EcoFlow system -- saving me from a costly mistake. Carlos was able to turn around a detailed quote very quickly, and when I received it, I was honestly surprised -- it was a significant amount lower than every other quote I received, even though his evaluation was by far the most thorough. Juan and his team are true solar experts and know exactly what they are doing - they were great at walking me through key details I should know about the system, how to best take advantage of having a solar system, and did their best to get me scheduled (in spite of multiple difficulties) for installation before the end of the year. Just for context, I've talked to another solar company where clearly they were just about trying to close the deal and sell sell sell, which really turned me off - it felt like they just wanted our money as opposed to wanting to understand what we really needed. Juan's team really shined here by just showing up to be real experts who are thoughtful about what system you need, as opposed to trying to close a deal. Napa Electric was paid to run Cat5e Ethernet cabling throughout 8 newly built units. In the process multiple cables were nicked and some outright cut. Napa Electric's technicians used dozens of UR connectors to patch cables throughout the property and told my client "AT&T will figure it out." Picture attached shows one of the bundles of UR connectors on the Ethernet cables that Napa Electric left. Lots of folks are saying they're great, but definitely avoid for low-voltage work.

The last atmospheric river almost sunk a visit from some friends as the roof leaked AGAIN... and with another one on the way, we needed to act fast to get this resolved permanently. Very fair pricing on very short notice... written estimate and we're off. Started the next day and reported that there was some dry rot that he would cover under our original estimate... no gouging here... Work was impeccable and clean up was complete... couldn't even tell that work had been done. Attention to detail was high. He replaced a board that was rotted and made sure that he primed the board to ensure that it wouldn't suffer with the upcoming rain. Overall, we're impressed and highly recommend Roofing Craftsman for your roofing needs. They were on time and delivered exactly what they promised on time and on budget. I've had a great solar power installation experience with Simply Solar. SS's customer rep, David…read moreFrank, patiently answered a million questions in easy-to-understand terms. He found many savings and benefit enhancements along the way. In spite of the solar credit expiring at the end of 2025, David put together an HDM plan far superior to anything I found when getting competing quotes. It simply lowered the cost without complicating ownership or savings or adding any ongoing cost. Speaking of competing quotes, they beat everyone else. All together, I saved about $20,000 without undue complication. Production Manager Jack kept me fully informed along the way. He always responded promptly and clearly to every query. He scheduled and completed the solar installation much earlier than promised. The installers also travelled a long distance outside of their service area to do the job in the Sierra foothills. So, even if you think your home is outside of their service area as shown on Yelp, you might give them a call and see if they can do it. Installer Gio and his team were excellent. Our panels were going on a tile roof and I had concerns about the L brackets pulling up the tiles as they slide under the downhill side of tiles. They ground channels into each of the affected tiles for these brackets so that the roof is still as water tight as a duck's a**. Gio, the electrician and main contact on site was both smart, friendly and patient in explaining the details while the solar panels, Tesla PowerWall batteries and solar inverter were installed. We originally chose them a few years ago because they offered free solar panel removal and reinstallation when we eventually needed a roof replacement. The initial install went fine, but trying to get them to honor their contract now has been a nightmare. Bait and Switch: They are suddenly demanding a $3,600 fee for the removal. Even their salesperson admitted this fee was not indicated in our main agreement from 2021, but is now picking apart vague fine print (outside of our contract) to justify it. We have sent the contract over multiple times and asked them to highlight the language where it specifies this charge. Unethical leadership: Leadership is aware of this $3,600 gap, but they don't want to back down. Terrible Customer Service: They are dragging their feet and refusing to coordinate with our roofer, who has been consistently asking for dates to remove the solar. Ignored Emergencies: We explicitly told them we have an active roof leak and asked them to prioritize the removal so we could fix our home. They did not care. Once they finish your initial install, they will abandon you and refuse to give you the time of day. I am reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. If you are looking for solar, be very wary and look elsewhere.
