This is probably our 5th time at the Fondren location. Little hiccups in the past, but, nothing like today! The unsweet tea machine wasn't working and they were waiting for their liquor license to be renewed- so no margaritas. Those 2 are no big deal. The issue we had was with the food - not good at all. Of the 4 orders we had, 3 meals were not eaten. Absolutely horrible. Order 1: The empanadas were premade, and mainly just dough. Very little meat. Plus, the dough wasn't cooked all the way thru. Three bites were taken. Order 2: Chicken and cheese enchiladas. The verda suace was SO spicy, the enchiladas were not edible. Order 3: Because the empanadas were pre-made, it wasn't possible to order grilled (not shredded) chicken empanada. When told they couldn't make one with grilled chicken, I asked for one with just cheese. That was not an option either. So I ordered cheese enchiladas. The cheese enchiladas arrived with verde sauce dripping off the side of the plate (a bit messy). The cheese inside the enchilada was NOT melted. It literally looked like the cheese was put on the flour tortilla and rolled up. The cheese was so cold, it made the entire enchilada cold to the touch. Plus, the verde sauce was too spicy to eat. 4 bites of two enchiladas were taken. The people helping us were very nice. The only concern I have is that the waitress/waiters would reach over other people's food plates to refill drinks or to serve our plates. Waitres/waiter 101....don't reach over the table. Chips were stale. Payment consisted of the waiter typing your card number into a phone without showing your bill. I said 4 dollars as a tip (rightfully so) and she gave herself a $10.11 tip on top of my bill that she told me which did include tax. She also couldn't provide a receipt either. Came in on a Friday for Happy hour when all their tacos are $2. After having several of them it was no surprise as to why only several people were there. The tacos are bland even with all the sauces they put on it. I chocked on the Barbacoa it was so dry and had no juice. The only true deal is their Margarita special. The fried shrimp taco was deep fried in a thick, terrible batter that wasn't seasoned at all. You are better off making tacos from a taco kit at home. read more

I will not be coming to this location again. Every time I come here they're rude and they are always rushing people. If you don't like your job, you can just quit being rude to customers unnecessary. And rushing a customer is unnecessary we are literally giving you all over money. The least you can do is be patient and wait. The food was absolutely delicious. The menu had many tasty options and the prices are right. The guy behind the bar that was running the place was friendly and had many balls to juggle at once with a post marathon crowd. Our Server was efficient but more suited for a role of a Drill Sergeant than someone dealing with the public. The place was crazy busy and she had a tough job, but scowling at the kids or anybody that slighted messed up her plan was a bit over the top. It is nice to be efficient but do so with a smile. This young lady just looked miserable which gives off a bad vibe. All in all, Green Ghost was a great find and I am glad we gave it a shot. read more

After hearing great things from friends - finally got to Green Ghost Tacos and they were not lying. Love the artsy vibe inside with great artwork and hand painted tables. We were immediately greeted by friendly staff and quickly seated. We started with chips and salsa. Fresh made chips and salsa that hit the spot. But the highlight definitely was their queso. I tried the beef enchilada plate and loved how flavorful they were - great filling and great red sauce. Friend tried the beef tacos and really enjoyed. We can't wait to go back! read more

First visit to Green Ghost but hopefully not my last. Was just going to try a taco buy had to see what the rice and beans were like, glad I did, they were very good. I had to try it. First impression...cool looking place! Like what they did to change from the Que Sera look to colorful Mexican inspired paintings. The music was good (cool Latin music), then bad (the eagles)...and so on it went throughout the dining experience. The lighting could be more interesting. Light the paintings or something. All the overhead lights just made it feel bland. Could be so much more. The food...horrible. I got three tacos and they were just meat (dry) topped with onions and cilantro and accompanied with tiny pieces of lime that were so small no lime could be squeezed out. I had to order salsa and chips $4.50, which is no big deal, if the salsa and chips are awesome. They were not. They brought out what seemed to be the last of the chips (small and broken) and the salsa tasted like a can of stewed tomatoes with chunks of onion...a seriously stupid salsa. Shame on them for serving it. Don't go for the food. Go for a beer on the patio...I don't think they can screw that up. read more

I went to Green Ghost for Cinco de Mayo, against my own better advice. A Mexican restaurant is not usually advisable that particular day, but it was a great choice for me! I sat at the bar and got great service and awesome food too. I'm not really a tequila girl anymore, but the Bloody Maria, mixed by owner Cesar Torres, was fantastic. I ordered chips and salsa and the Mexico City torta cubana. It was almost as big as a football: breaded steak, egg, chorizo, ham, salchicha (aka sausage), topped with queso fresco, lettuce, tomato and avocado. Delicious!! The potatoes on the side were fantastic! GG calls them papas fritas: Homemade whole red skin potatoes, fried crispy and tossed in fresh seasoning. I usually skip potato and fry sides, but I ate these up first. Atmosphere: 5 Great crowd, most on the patio, not too loud. Love the colorful murals and interior. Service: 5 Amanda and Cesar took great care of me. Amanda was really attentive and helpful. Food: 5 Probably one of the best sandwiches (and sides) I've ever had. Simple but incredible. Will I go back? Absolutely. Can't wait! I'm so glad to have them back in our neighborhood. read more

One of my favorite spots to hang out for porch beers. I'm not a huge margarita fan, but damn I do love the house margarita here! Now, the reason you are reading a review about a taco spot. I've had chorizo in multiple states and countries and it's some of the best I've ever had. Seriously, get the huevos y chorizo burrito. It's a beast but worth it. House made salsas are fantastic too. Occasionally, steak or chicken tacos will be a miss, but why would you get something so boring when there are Lengua tacos available. The empanadas and quesadillas are spot on too. Want a messier way to share grub ? Get the nachos. Chicken or chorizo are my faves. Or the carne asada fries. Service can be a little slower at times but the vibe is more hangout taqueria and less chain Mexican food. read more

Yassssssssss. Green ghost is BACK, BACK! For the win. This is my first time in the Fondren location since they've reopened. Lots of natural sunlight in the dining area and there's also outdoor seating. The service is great. Our server was Mandi; a very nice young lady with timely service and a lovely personality. My co worker and I order taco salads; hers with chicken, mine with shrimp. We both throughly enjoyed them. You can customize your salad as well. We just really enjoyed the dining in experience today. The food is a very poor attempt to create an Americanized version of Mexican/Central American food. My taco "steak and chorozo" meats were vastly over cooked. The queso fundido was a mess of flavors that never belonged together. The salsa is bland, the chips far too thick, and the queso for the chips is even more bland than the salsa. Any chain "Mexican" restaurant that buys its products from Sysco would be far, far better. I gave the place one star because the staff was polite. EDIT: Since we hadn't had Mexican/CA food at Green Ghost, we went to El Charro on Lakeland the next night. We had wonderful tacos - al Carbon and de Adobada. In addition we had queso fundido, which we had tried at Green Ghost. The queso fundido at Green Ghost was almost inedible, but the same dish at El Charro was terrific! And finally, our El Charro meal was $12 less expensive than Green Ghost. Needless to say, we won't be back to Green Ghost in Fondren. P read more

Absolutely the worst Mexican food I've ever had. First Mexican place I've ever been to that you had to pay for chips and salsa. The chips are super thick, more like pita chips than tortilla chips. The margarita was super tart and didn't taste anything like a margarita. Food was edible but far from tasty. Way overpriced for small portions of less than mediocre food. In town visiting our daughter, and this was convenient as it was across the street from our hotel. Very friendly and attentive waitress, the chips and salsa were great, a thicker chip than most places.
