Quick service! Met sister-in-law on a Saturday one-day up and back trip (3 hrs each way) JUST to eat at this restaurant! All of my in-laws and my husband have eaten here and told me how wonderful it is - my turn! Small, unpretentious restaurant with a lot more seating than you would think from the outside appearance. Immediate lunch seating and prompt, large basket of chips with a mason jar of salsa and 3 small cups. The chips are good, but watch that salsa - it's got a kick! Husband and sister-in-law ordered the Tacos Nortenos with chicken; they had had these before and were fans. I'm not a big taco eater, but I took a bite of one and would definitely eat these. I went with sister-in-law's recommendation of the Monterey Enchiladas, and I would have licked the plate when I was done if I wasn't afraid of being caught...that cheese sauce is to die for! I want it on everything! Our drinks were refilled without asking, and there was no need for a takeout box. :) I had to stare at the bill for a minute before adding the tip - $41 for 3 people to eat lunch, with drinks & tax. Men's bathroom didn't have any paper towels. Server was nice at first but didn't come back to the table. had lunch with friends in this traditional mexican restaurant other the common decor. most ordered from the lunch menu and were satisfied and i ordered the mexican pizza priced at 10.99 but not on the lunch menu. my food was good but could have been much better if a tiny bit more effort were put into preparation. most ingredients were on the edge of the tortilla causing it to be soft and topping heavy in the middle. there were not many servers working so average time was a bit longer than expected but not a problem for us as we never rush on our friday girls lunch! read more

First and last time here! I live close by the restaurant and my man and I decided to try this place out. The food was served hot and fresh.. I ordered the mixed fajitas with shrimp, chicken and steak! Get this, they left the tail on the shrimp! Shocking I know! There was way more onions than meat! My first visit was a couple of months ago. It was Taco Tuesday and I wanted to try a place I haven't visited before. I ordered the Burrito Carbon and it was deeeliscious!! Of course, I ordered a Margarita, after all, it was Taco Tuesday!! The Margarita was very stout, and delicious as well. A few weeks later, I ordered the burrito again and it was the as it was the first time. However, on January 3rd, I recommended to my friend that we meet for a late lunch/early dinner here. I bragged about how great the food was as well as the drinks. We both ordered the Chimichanga al Carbon; she ordered with chicken and I ordered with grilled steak. We waited about 30 minutes for our food, although, the and I were the only patrons there. When we were brought our food, it was picture perfect; unfortunately, neither of us were satisfied with the temperature if the food or the taste. I can not speak for my friend, but my chimichanga was not fried instead, it was wrapped and heated and stuffed with lots of cold, hardened cheese and a few strips of steak. The refried beans were cold as well as the rice and the cheese on the little stale tortilla cop. the salad was the best thing on the plate. Perhaps they were short staffed on this particular day but I'm not sure if I will visit again. The two stars are for the first two times I visited when the food was hot and delicious. read more

Three of us had Sunday lunch there yesterday. The place was pretty empty when we arrived at noon but full when we left an hour later. Chips and salsa were both good. I had Choriqueso and a Guacamole Salad--both mediocre. The Choriqueso had an unusual ingredient (mushrooms) too much onion and not enough jalapeño. The guacamole was out of a pail and served in a stale tortilla bowl. My companions each had Quesadilla Fajitas (one mixed and one chicken). They were very happy with their choices. They also shared a fried ice cream which impressed them considerably less than their entrees. read more

Stopped in for Fathers Day lunch. We got two Margaritas.. excellent.. a stuffed chicken avocado.. taco plate with enchiladas! Very hidden and definitely delicious!! Chips and salsa were great. It is a great little quaint place with booths for privacy. A bar with TV is available. It was packed the day we went even with Covid 19. Highly recommend. read more

I've been here a lot and it's hit or miss. Sometimes the service is great, and others they are a little slow. They don't socially distance at all, so it's often crowded in the small dining area. Sitting in the bar area was better. We got really lumpy, thick cheese dip once, but the waiter did replace it when I told him. The chili poblanos are good, but one time I ordered the guy said they were beef, and the next time he said they were chicken. Once they were mild, and the next they were spicy. It was one of those Friday nights when Mexican food sounded great to me, but I think my boyfriend wasn't sold. I've been to Cinco de Mayo 3 or 4 times over the last 6 years and always liked it, but another spot (starts with a C) has been our Mexican spot. Last nights visit changed that! I don't know why Cinco de Mayo popped in my mind but I'm so glad it did! We both agreed this is our new spot. I had a chicken chimichanga with vegetables and he had the mexican pizza. The vegetables weren't cooked to death and greasy like you might get from other mexican spots that put you in a "mexi-coma". They still had a little crunch that gave the dish a really fresh taste. Their salsa is delicious. The mexican pizza was really good too. Another plus for this place is the charming finishes...wooden booths, hexagon tiled floors....not your normal mexican restaurant decor. We left happy! read more

Our favorite Mexican place in the metro area! It's a little hole in the wall that delivers delicious authentic food and strong drinks. We dine in often and have also done take out and even catering. We had them cater for a small dinner party and we fed 8 people for just over $30. Our favorite dish there is hands down the tamales. Their chips and salsa are delicious and prices are even better. My first visit to Cinco De Mayo won't be my last. A neighbor recommended the restaurant to me, and since I was in the mood for Mexican food, I tried it out. I went on a Friday evening with the place packed, and the service was STILL great. I was greeted and seated immediately, the drink order taken, and chips and salsa quickly followed. I had ample time to look over the extensive menu while enjoying the warm chips (I like them freshly cooked) and salsa. I had the chicken chimichanga with rice and beans. Very good. The veggies in the dish are so fresh and the meat tender and well seasoned. I enjoyed my meal as did my friend who had the beef fajitas- Delicious. Again, I can't say enough about the service. This "was" my favorite Mexican restaurant. I say was because after today i may not go back. I took 4 additional family member with us after telling them how good the food was. Service today was abysmal. Our server was the manager so... no excuse. One of the fajitas arrived lukewarm and mostly veggies which is not good when you order chicken fajitas. Chicken was also skimpy on the tacos as well. We had to ask for our check three times and finally just went to the counter to pay. He had not even started calculating our bill and Then to add insult to injury, he charged one of the party for 3 ice teas@ $2.50 each because they are not a "free refill " restaurant. Very disappointing and embarrassing since I had bragged on them so much. It will be a while if and when I return.
