Quick service! Met sister-in-law on a Saturday one-day up and back trip (3 hrs each way) JUST to…read moreeat at this restaurant! All of my in-laws and my husband have eaten here and told me how wonderful it is - my turn! Small, unpretentious restaurant with a lot more seating than you would think from the outside appearance. Immediate lunch seating and prompt, large basket of chips with a mason jar of salsa and 3 small cups. The chips are good, but watch that salsa - it's got a kick! Husband and sister-in-law ordered the Tacos Nortenos with chicken; they had had these before and were fans. I'm not a big taco eater, but I took a bite of one and would definitely eat these. I went with sister-in-law's recommendation of the Monterey Enchiladas, and I would have licked the plate when I was done if I wasn't afraid of being caught...that cheese sauce is to die for! I want it on everything! Our drinks were refilled without asking, and there was no need for a takeout box. :) I had to stare at the bill for a minute before adding the tip - $41 for 3 people to eat lunch, with drinks & tax. It was SO worth the drive.

Men's bathroom didn't have any paper towels. Server was nice at first but didn't come back to the table. Rough around the edges but for the price, probably would opt for another spot given how much this place didn't check the boxes for us. Wanted to like it, but sadly likely won't be back.

The food in the cafe in the back looked like it had been sitting for hours and it was only 10 am. Highly deceptive pricing! They do not put prices on anything. Staff will speak only in Spanish to you. As a Latina, I find that this not only is unprofessional but not tailored to serve a community that is in need for reasonable pricing. I am heading to Hattiesburg area to pick up some of these staples bcuz there is no reason these prices should represent California prices.

Carniceria Valdez is a great option for Mexican food and it is a great example that the best…read moreMexican food comes from humble establishments rather than some high-end establishment heavy on atmosphere and ambiance. Carniceria Valdez is literally a counter in the back of a Mexican grocery, but coming out of that kitchen is some mighty fine Mexican food. I went with a couple of tacos and a gordita. For the gordita, I went with chorizo as the protein and for the tacos I went with the asada and the barbacoa. The tacos were just under two dollars each ($1.99 to be exact) and the gordita was, I believe, $3.50. I probably enjoyed the gordita the most and the chorizo was definitely my favorite protein out of my three choices. The staff was friendly enough, though the ordering process was you walk up to the counter and order your meal and they call you up when it is ready. All in all, I would definitely recommend here and I will give it five stars.
