Service is racist and horrible! My family (party of 5) including my boyfriend came here last Saturday. We were sat in the very back of the restaurant near the restroom. There was no overhead lighting. The ceiling is black. We were brought out one basket old broken chips. We requested a fresh batch. Our waiter was very dismissive and said that it was coming. It came out 20 minutes later. We had to ask for drinks. We had to ask for them to take our order. Our waiter was trash; he didn't write anything down. I had to tell him three times no cheese. When the food came out, he forgot my order and my boyfriend's extra order of tacos. Whereas, an all white family walks in. Party of 5. They were seated in the table in front of us. They were given a table that was under a well bright lit area. They immediately received two baskets of full fresh chips. Their waiter immediately got their drinks orders and placed them. They were immediately had their orders taken and everything was brought out at the same time. They were constantly checked on. I looked around the whole restaurant. They placed large parties (5+) near the restroom if they were black, but any other race they give them tables that was well lit with multiple lights not around the restroom or pay station. The food is okay, nothing to write home about, but the service is piss poor for black people. You'll get amazing service if you are white. I witnessed it. We were never checked on. We had to ask for the tab. By the way, the last location that they had was very dark. This newer location was not any better. So much for the remodel. read more

El Sombrero is a great Mexican restaurant located just off of the Interstate. The service is amazingly friendly and professional. My client recommended here for a lunch meeting and it was abundantly apparent that he is here frequently. It was kind of like Norm walking in Cheers. The place has a pretty good atmosphere and the food is good. I went with the Super Burrito and was impressed with it. We also started with a chorizo quest dip and while a bit salty, it was good. We've eaten here in the past and had fajitas and a chimichanga. They remodeled so we decided to try again. My husband had a fajita steak quesadilla and I opted for 3 side orders. A shrimp enchilada, a tamale and a crispy beef taco. Let's start with the chips and salsa. Chips thin and warm. That a bonus. Salsa was ok. Husband asked for salsa picosa twice and we never got it. His steak was boiled meat. No flavor. The server asked lots of questions for details but none of the details were met. My Tamale had no cheeee sauce that was requested. The taco had no lettuce and cheese that was requested. The shrimp enchilada was as ordered. All tasted ok. The tamale was moist so I'm counting that as a victory. Mike ordered one chile toriado (spelling) he got a full order of 4. We just rolled with it. The shrimp were a nice size and tasted pretty good. Overall the flavor was lacking today. We will return and get the chicken fajitas in hopes that their food quality did not decline with the interior changes. The decor is very modern and feels like a sports bar with lots of TVs. The colored lightbulbs over each booth are very pretty to look at, but making reading a menu impossible. We had to use the light on our phone to read the menus. read more

What a FUN visit. I sat at the bar, had a cocktail and waited for my TOGO Order. They are so sweet and attentive.

Great place with excellent food. All the wait staff are great. Really like the new remodeled look as well.

Stopped by around 2:15 to catch the lunch menu. I ordered the lunch chimichanga which came with rice and beans. I asked for the ground beef instead of chunk beef and double rice/no beans. There seemed to be only one server working but he was handling the tables very well. My food came out HOT and it was soooo good. They have the best chimichanga and Mexican rice in the area to me! Even though Covid-19 put a damper on most of our Cinco de Mayo plans, I was still determined to celebrate at home with some delicious Mexican food. I'm so glad that I decided to order from El Sombrero. I decided to call the restaurant to place my to-go order, but I received no answer the first three tries. I decided to try for a fourth time and was put on hold for about five minutes, then I was hung up on. I could hear a lot of people in the background ordering, so I figured the employee on the phone was a bit overwhelmed. Since I was still determined to get my Mexican food, I physically went to the restaurant to place my to-go order. I'm glad I decided to do that, because I was able to place my order with no problem! If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. I am highly disappointed in the overall experience. There was a mosquito in my food. Another member in my party had a mosquito in her food as well. It was disgusting. We spoke with the waiter (said his name was Jose) and he was not concerned at all. We asked to speak with the manager, who came to apologize and claimed we didn't have to pay for anything. Our appetite was definitely ruined, he took off the price of our food off but still charged us for drinks, disappointed. The staff overall are terrible. It's difficult to get their attention once you place an order. We ordered food that we never got and the food that we did receive had bugs in it. We were originally going to Logan's but with an hour long wait we went over to El Sombrero. No wait & very kind and attentive staff. We were seated immediately and were given chips and salsa just as fast which was great because we were very hungry! I had a house margarita (meh) and the hubby had a blue moon. For dinner I had the carnitas plate (delicious & the salsa that comes with that is unreal!! Yum!!!) rice and beans, my hubby had the fried burritos & daughter had the chicken nuggets & fries (nuggets were almost burnt ) overall a good experience and good food the place was packed (& it's huge!) with happy smiling faces so all around a good experience. read more

Been eating here for over 10 years the food is great! They will make your order however you like! I ask them to hold this and that and it's never a problem! They are usually quite busy but don't let that discourage you from eating there! The service is super fast! We never finish our cheese dip before we have all the food on the table! Atmosphere: It was a big place. They were BUSY. We were sat in a booth, secluded from the madness. I was glad of that. They had someone making tortillas to order, in the middle of the restaurant. After eating there tonight, I remembered why I quit going there. Ordered enchiladas with red sauce because the supposed cheese they put on there really isn't cheese. Clearly specified wanting the red sauce, and had waiter repeat it. Well they brought out the enchiladas with the cheese sauce we did not want. Waited for the waiter to come back. By the time he did, the enchiladas were cold. We told him we wanted the red sauce and not the cheese sauce. So what did he do? Instead of remaking them, he took them to the back and dumped red sauce on top of the cheese sauce and brought them right back out. When I got the bill I asked him why he did that. He admitted that was exactly what he did. How cheap is this restaurant? Pretty doggone cheap. If you make a mistake, then make it right. Trying to save a few pennies. Makes you wonder if those guidelines are coming from the management. Also, they do not give you an itemized copy of your bill. Only a summary with a place for a tip. I eat out all the time and all the other restaurants ALWAYS give an itemized bill so that You can check it for accuracy and to make sure that a tip has not already been included. I made them show me an itemized copy before I paid. This restaurant could use a heavy dose of common sense, but I really doubt that will happen. Now back to the restaurants in Jackson, Flowood, and Madison. Too bad Byram doesn't have at least one decent place to eat. read more

I ate there with family and friends on Friday. The food was okay and at first the service was fine but that all changed when I got my check. I looked down at it and recognized the Spanish words that were written on the top of the check. This idiot waiter had written "gorda lentes" on the top of the check. That translates to "fat girl with glasses." Just to be sure I hadn't suddenly misread it, I even went to the Google translator to verify it and the ticket for my friend, which said "Bearded man with hat." Needless to say, my husband and I informed the manager (Juan) that we would not be returning to this restaurant while the manager made lame excuses like "well maybe someone put that as a joke on top of his check and it wasn't him" and he told us the waiter had gone home. He also kept saying that he treats his customers like family and we reminded him that this is not how people treat family. I asked him if he thought that all Americans are idiots and assumed that we don't speak or read other languages. He said he did not, and told me that doing so would be like me (as an American) assuming that none of the waiters at the Mexican restaurant spoke English. I quickly let him know that I work in HR and as a manager this is HIS problem. His only offer was to comp our meal that day and to have the guy "pay for your food next time you come in." I told him then and there "I wouldn't be coming back in and that as the manager that waiter shouldn't be there after calling his customers names. Great authentic Mexican restaurant. The outside and lobby area not impressive but once in the dining area it is very comfortable with great ambience. The food is outstanding if you like and appreciate authentic restaurants. I definently recommend this place. I travel a lot and have eaten in several Mexican restaurants in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California along the border and this place can easily compete against any of those restaurants. read more
