First, let me express that I've been to this restaurant a couple of times and have really enjoyed the food. And this time was no exception. The food was fresh and delicious. I normally get pizza and a glass of wine, but since it was lunchtime, decided to get something fresh and light so I ordered seafood. My disappointment has nothing to do with the quality of the food. my disappointment is that at the end of dinner they added at 18% service fee to our lunch tab. I ordered the salmon lunch special which was $19.99. My friend ordered the same and we both ordered a Caesar salad on the side. I was treating my friend to lunch and I expected the bill to be somewhere around $50 for both of us. So imagine my surprise when the bill was $59 before the tip. I asked what the 18% service fee was for and I was told that it was a business tip. Gratuity for the servers are extra. As you can see by the receipt. Two $19 meals plus service plus tip is $70 almost $72. $72 on a $40 meal? That is highway robbery. I also think that if they have an 18% service charge that they should let you know that before you order your meal not when you get the bill. I'm not the kind of person that wants to stiff the server. So of course I gave her cash. But I will never go back to this establishment again. I think the way they do business is shady. And when anyone operates in a shady manner in one area, I expect they operate in a shady manner in several areas. They would've been much better off just charging more for lunch than trying to unload a 20% service fee that is unwarranted. I do not recommend this place unless you plan on paying an extra 40% in gratuity.

Green Cottage has interesting Iran/Persian hybrid cuisine where other influences from multi-cultural Socal seeps in. Rather bucolic interior, tight spacing of tables and very loud when the restaurant is full. Get ready to read lips. There is outdoor picnic bench seating for good weather days. 1) House lavash: Very thin, leathery, chewy, faintly sweet gluten stretchy paired with mild Chimichurri possibly consisting of fresh Italian parsley, thyme, bit of chile flakes, olive oil, vinegar. 2) Kashke Bademjan: Creamy, plush, oil drenched eggplant slowly cooked in olive oil with a dressing of creamed whey which mimics yogurt, scattering of battered, crispy, fried onions, garlic, mint which I couldn't sense. This unctuous version of Kashk was rather bland and not like the flavourful one at Persian oriented Adana in Glendale. I had to sprinkle their house Somagh, dried, sweet-sour, minty-oregano like sumac fruit powder to revive some of the flavours locked in. 3) SAFFRON CHICKEN: a) Marinated in tiny bit of saffron, fresh lime juice and very subtly spiced. Moist, soft yet firm white breast meat served in the shape of a shish kabob. Flavour profile is safe, mild, mediocre, timid. This chicken definitely needs Somagh to arouse it from deep slumber. b) MEDITERRANEAN GREEK SALAD "Zesty Combination of Organic Mixed Greens, Romaine Hearts, Red Onion, Fresh Tomatoes, Cucumbers, Olives, Feta Cheese, Pepperoncini & Our Homemade Italian Vinaigrette" Refreshing, cool leafy vegetables and good herbal dressing with proper gastrique, funky goat cheese, salty, cured olives, vinegary Pepperoncini create a flavourful complex blend of taste sensations. This is the most competent dish that I sampled. c) Basmati Rice: Nutty, al dente, friable, pleasantly dry. Zereshkpolo Barberry adds a sweet, sour, fruity note. d) Steamed broccoli & grilled zucchini: Standard fare. 1-2a) LIMO-NANA: "HOUSE SIGNATURE DRINKS MADE WITH FRESH HERBS AND LEMONADE". Lemon component was weak while the puréed green herbs had a skunky, feral tone. 4) Tiramisù: Meaning "pick me up" or "cheer me up". Lightly whipped sweetened Ricotta & cream is light & fluffy. Savoiardi lady finger pastry is lightly soaked in Espresso. Thin layer of chocolate and dusting of bitter chocolate. Nice end to dinner. Strength of Green Cottage is that their main courses have big portions so an appetizer isn't really necessary, and their prices are reasonable. Most of the mains are in the $20 range which in this age of creeping inflation is a bargain. The food may not be "gourmet", but competent enough. There is a tendency to lack a deep satisfying Umami. 3 stars

Came for lunch on a Sunday and quickly sat down. The menu is a good size and you have plenty of options to choose from. We were recommended by a friend and tried the meat lovers pizza, saffron chicken, and beef luleh. The meat lovers pizza took us by surprise when we saw chicken on it, but all I can say is trust the recipe. The chicken was so flavorful, it was seasoned to perfection. The saffron chicken was juicy and well seasoned. It came with rice, salad and roasted vegetables. We chose the Greek salad and it had a mustardy based dressing. If you don't like mustard flavors they do have other salad options. The beef luleh was very flavorful and it was also juicy. My favorite was the roasted vegetables, they had a nice char to them. They also gave us tiramisu which was filled with coffee and had a nice fluffy texture. The food was delicious and very filling. Now one thing I wasn't thrilled about was the 18% service charge they add to anyone who dines in. Which would be fine if they didn't tax the service charge,You end up paying taxes on the tip. If we do come back it will most likely be for carry out.

Hey LA fam -- Persians, Armenians, and all Mediterranean food lovers, listen up! Next time you hit that "I'm starving but don't know where to go" crisis, drop this spot straight onto your go-to list. It's clean, chill vibes, amazing food, and the friendliest crew around. That's all you really need.

I love it for lunch, or dinner. It is one of my favorites in the Valley. Always quiet with many different options to sit, inside, outside or under the veranda at the front. The Cranberry and Pear salad is my to go for lunch but at dinner, is absolutely the chicken kabab or wild seabass.

We ordered the meat combo plate, which came with beef lula kabob as well as chicken kabob and beef kabob pieces. The plate also came with hummus and because I came with my daughter and she demanded fries, I replaced the included basmati rice for freshly made fries. In addition, we decided to order a side of baba ganoush, which was very flavorful and just so worth it. The meats were outstanding. Both, chicken and beef kabob pieces were nicely marinated, perfectly grilled and delicious. The beef lula kabob really stood out to me and it's one of the better ones I've had in LA -- very juicy, well marinated ground beef and they cooked it so the juices are trapped inside the lula and they only get released after you bite into it. What I got was a perfect bite every time and those delicious beef juices made my taste buds say Yaaaaay and nourished my soul. Overall, a very good meal at a good price and it had my wife and daughter satisfied. The spot is located on a medium-size plaza with many parking spots. The inside is clean and has about 8 tables for dining in. The service was good and friendly. A worthy local place for a quick, delicious Mediterranean food. Will come back again!

For $21.99 it's worth getting especially since it comes with saffron rice, salad, pita bread, and a choice of regular hummus or spicy hummus. So where do I even start with this place…read more.. I first saw Ara's Shawarma on TikTok. The owner was posting videos claiming it's the best viral crispy shawarma. I'm not gonna lie--I was skeptical. It didn't look that crazy compared to other spots, and the videos felt a little awkward. It just didn't fully sell me at first. I actually DM'd him kind of joking around, half messing with him but also lowkey trying to offer some marketing help or pointers. I honestly thought he might get defensive, especially since he's young--but instead, he asked to hop on a call. That call completely changed my perception. The guy is calm, humble, and genuinely kind. No ego, no attitude--he was just open to feedback and wanted to improve. That alone made me respect him and the business way more. You can tell he really cares about what he's building. Now the food... I tried it for the first time today. Got 3 beef shawarmas since that's what everyone says to get. Only downside--they didn't have tahini, which in my opinion is a must for beef shawarma. They offer pomegranate molasses instead, which I personally don't think goes with it. But let me tell you... I devoured two and gave one to my girl. No exaggeration--this is probably the best beef shawarma I've had in a long time. And I LOVE shawarma. I even have my own recipe at home, and this beat mine by a mile. The meat was soft and tender (but not mushy), super juicy--to the point you honestly don't even need sauce. That's rare. Most places mess it up by being dry. Flavor was on point, super aromatic, just overall done right. I'd give it a 9.7/10--only because no tahini, which I had to make myself. But for $13, you're getting legit quality. Also worth mentioning--the service was great. The guy at the register (didn't catch his name) was super kind and helpful. When your food's ready, they bring it out and actually remember what sauces and stuff you needed. Little things like that matter. Overall--don't sleep on this place. A lot of people talking trash on TikTok are just hating or don't really know shawarma. I almost let that sway me, but I'm glad I tried it myself. Spot is spacious, right on Ventura, tons of street parking and I think there's parking in the back too. Next time I'm trying the chicken--I'll update when I do.

This is…read morecoming from someone who has an Israeli boyfriend, someone that keeps hummus as a staple in her home, and someone who could probably never get sick of Mediterranean food. My boyfriend introduced me to this place, he and his family love it, and now I do too. He and I used to be long distance for three years and every time he would visit in LA, we would go to Tel Aviv Grill. There are lots of things to get here... pita, laffa, baguette, but I've pretty much always ordered the plate. You choose a meat and you get a wholeeee bunch of sides. You order and pay, and take your receipt to the counter and they prepare the meat and your order for you. I usually order the chicken thigh plate and I split that with my boyfriend. The plate is honestly enough for two people but it's not quite enough protein. So we also order a side of rib eye or chicken shawarma. I get everything with the plate, so that looks like: purple cabbage, green cabbage, cucumber tomato salad, pickles, peppers, roasted eggplant, fries, and one pita. Hummus and tahini too. They have other sauces too but you have to specifically ask for those if you want them, like zchug and amba. Some workers are nicer than others and if you ask for a little extra, they give it to you. We always appreciate when that happens :) Everything here is good, you won't be disappointed and you definitely won't leave hungry!

Not only my wife's chicken kabob was not cooked well, it was cold too!! Her meal was not the only meal on the table that was cold. The next morning, we both had severe stomachaches which we could not possibly believe. Please do not be fooled by the portions that they give you, they fill up your plates with lots of salads, to cover up the stingy portion of one skewer chicken or beef kabob which they serve you on their plates!! They claim to be glatt kosher but their food, meat & chickens are not healthy at all. We will never step foot in there again. After a while, there was a response from the owner: " I am sorry to hear about your experience with us. This is not something that we take lightly. I would like to offer my apologies. Please give our main office a call and ask for my secretary. She will be happy to hear from you and will do her best to rectify the situation." I did call and talked to her. She said that she is going to talk to the owner and will get back to me. She texted me the following: I appreciate the time you spent talking to me regarding your experience at Tel Aviv Grill. I spoke to the owner and he agreed to send you a gift card in the amount of $150 which you can use at any of our locations including "Popular" our newest store and Tel Aviv Tapas. Although I understand that your review was based on a true experience, considering the fact we are rectifying the situation, will you please either remove the negative review or rewrite it with a better light? I called her & told her that if the owner wants me to rewrite my review with a better light, please ask him to make the gift card $200 since I have been to his Tel Aviv Tapas restaurant a few times & have spent a lot of money there, the main courses are over $90 a dish, salads are over $26 & alcoholic beverages are over $28 each. She said let me talk to him & I will let you know. She got back to me, saying that after speaking with the owner about our conversation, he is taking the deal off the table now. She added that, I am busy with other things & do not have time to negotiate endlessly about this. This is not the right way and the right attitude to rectify situations & make clients satisfied!!

I prefer pita sandwiches that are cut open and stuffed, rather than rolled up like a burrito the way they do here; the latter compresses everything together into a mush and can drip the contents out the back end, which is exactly what happened when I tried eating this one. This would matter less if the felafel were really good, but these were almost completely tasteless and mushy, no nice crisp exterior. In fact, they were falling apart as I was eating. The hummus was okay. Not bad, but nothing special. And the pita bread they included with it was cold, not warm and fresh. Maybe there are other items on the menu that justify the five star reviews.
