This place was AMAZING from beginning to end. I left a message over the weekend when they were closed. First thing Monday morning they returned my call (which in contractor world is a miracle) and were able to send an employee out that day to give me an estimate. I only wanted insulation but received so much more. Adam completed an energy audit then sat down with me to review the information and pricing then and there. Turns out I would be able to receive rebates from Austin Energy and TX Gas if I completed a few more projects to bring my home up to code which brought the cost of ALL the projects down to basically that of the insulation. They were a no pressure company, gave me the price of everything individually and let me decide. In the end I had 2 air combustion ducts installed, insulation placed, air ducts cleaned, air vents replaced and doors sealed. It gives me great pleasure to give this company my full recommendation. Several weeks ago I wrote a rather scathing review of work they had done for me 4 1/2 years ago. In hindsight, I probably should have contacted them first, but I thought no way would they clean up a mess created so long ago. Well, no sooner had the digital ink dried on that review when they, meaning the owners of the company, contacted me about it. I got the feeling they really wanted to make things right, so I gave them the opportunity. I was not disappointed! Rob, the company owner, apologized for the work done earlier, saying the guys who had done it were no longer with the company, and said he would fix it. And he did. He redrew the duct layout and had three guys, including himself, working all day on it. And they came by a few days later to finish the job. And the cost? Austin has a new requirement before you can sell your home. You must get an ECAD report to give the buyer. Green Collar was able to do a report within 3 days of my request and for less than a couple of other companies I called. ($50-100 cheaper than others) I was pleased with their response time and cost and the report was professionally done. During my city inspection (which passed no problem), the City inspector pointed out the water heater should not have passed because the vent pipe should have been secured at each elbow joint and was not. I had a great experience with Green Collar Operations. I was interested in adding more insulation after the cold that we experienced in February 2021, and they did that and more. Bill Cook recommended redesigning our duct work to take care of uneven temperatures in our house. In the winter our living area with cathedral ceilings would be too cool, while the bedrooms would be too warm. In the summer the living area was too warm, and the bedrooms were really chilly. The new ductwork took care of that problem, and with the cold from the current ice storm we're enjoying very comfortable temperatures throughout the house. In addition to the ductwork, additional insulation was installed, baffles added over the soffit vents, and they made sure that the doors, windows, ac air intake vents, and plumbing areas were sealed. Everyone I dealt with from this company was great, and Rob Scott, one of the owners, was here to meet with the city inspector and afterwards to inspect and make sure that the job was done right. We had Adam with Green Collar blow in insulation, seal our duct work and install Y splitters for our house late fall last year. However, now that it's getting hot again we are noticing how uneven house house is heating and cooling. The work done was supposed to fix this and didn't. Adam came out and did an evaluation and estimate, and he made it easy to understand the proposed work plan for adding attic insulation and then optionally remediating some issues with our ducts. There was no hard sales pitch, and he made the proposed costs and estimated rebate return clear up front. Once we agreed on the plan, their work crew came out and completed the work on schedule and with no problems. THIS IS THE COMPANY TO GO TO FOR A/C WORK IN AUSTIN !!! Rob at Green Collar Operations is amazing! We have a newish 2 story condo/townhouse (2009) that wouldn't cool properly upstairs. We had other companies out who said they couldn't find any problem or that we needed a several thousand dollar addition to the damping system or wanted to install an expensive exterior fan in the very tall stairwell. We had several appointments set w/ other companies that were either postponed several days or just didn't show up. The office staff assured us their tech would arrive the next day on time and he did. Rob did an thorough audit and ended up telling us we had a terrific system in place and only some pretty minor tweaking was needed. He helped us do some of it ourselves to control costs and went above & beyond to make our system better than ever for a quarter of what we planned to spend. Beware of this company's fraudulent business practices. A couple of years ago, a friend recommended Green Collar to do an energy audit of the house I'd just purchased. Green Collar did three things when they came. 1. Checked the ductwork for leaks and sealed as needed, 2. Added air dams to canned recessed lights, 3. Added a duct to a bathroom that did not have one. 1. They did a reasonably good job testing and sealing the duct work, although their workers left quite a mess and I had to call them back to clean up. Since that time I've been in the attic for other repairs and found an incredible amount of garbage that their installers left up there. They simply treated the attic as a garbage heap for empty containers. 2. They recommended that air dams be installed around the canned/recessed lights because in their words "you need to keep insulation away from the light housings." This is where I have a major problem. I just had another contractor in to do some repair work and he asked why there were air dams in the attic. I told him that GC had made that recommendation and charged me for installing them. His response was "You have Halo model H7RICT which are rated for direct insulation contact. Adding air dams is not only unnecessary, it significantly decreases energy efficiency." I did a bit of research and he was right. Green Collar recommended, performed and charged for work that was not only unnecessary, but it decreases the energy efficiency of my house. 3. On the duct that was added to the bathroom--that was done, but now that I've had a chance to get in the attic and examine the work I can see that there is an excessive length of flex duct that was used. It's literally twice as long as needed and placed in an awkward position. Extra length of flex duct is another energy waster. It's two years later that I'm finding out what kind of work Green Collar did. I was taken advantage of because I did not have the time to do research on their recommendations. Beware. read more

I called this company on a referral from a neighbor. I wanted an Energy Audit and was not pleased with the type of "audit" performed. All the guy did was go up in my attic, come down and tell me there was nothing he could do to help us. He didn't suggest adding insulation anywhere, his loss. We do need more insulation, I figure this guy just didn't want to do it or is just that incapable of performing an audit. I don't know about you, but an Energy Audit should be more than a walk into the attic. I am glad it was free, but I will never recommend them. read more

--First: Know the GCO is smart enough to "stack" their positive reviews. Meaning, they have friends and family etc write reviews. I hired Green Collar via a sub contractor AirCo (who installed a new AC system) BTW, this reputable AC company no longer works with Green Collar. 1. Long story short, one of the guys dropped a bucket of sealing mastic on our carpet. They sent a guy out to clean it, it didn't work. They mailed out a $150 check but now the carpet I have in about 1,000SF needs to be replaced. 2. The doors were not sealed properly, I can still feel the air flowing - even after inviting them back to fix the problem. 3. The cheap clear caulk they used around the inside windows has fully dried and looks horrible. It was applied too wide and thin, and now becomes a permanent dust collector. 4. When the performance "test" was completed, it wasn't clear to me that anything was really being tested. I might be wrong here but I would think a before and after test would have meaning. All in all a horrible experience, I really liked the owner but bottom line, they hire kids who don't care about your house, thus a bad company to work with. They have a great website, Green Collar is a very marketing savvy group but don't get fooled into allowing them into your house. I can't say enough great things about Rob and his crew. GCO replaced my entire duct system which was decades old. The guys who worked on it were courteous, explained the process (which matched what I was first told), and were fastidious in their cleanup. There were a couple places where they made a couple small dings in the paint, and GCO paid my painter to do those touchups, no questions asked. They even came back for a follow up visit months later to switch out a duct and add some dampers at no charge just to make sure all the rooms were getting an even flow. read more

My attic was woefully under-insulated. I called several companies and Green Collar was the one that expressed the most interest in doing the work and at a fair price. I also had some attic ventilation put in by others, and between the new insulation and attic fans I am already seeing a difference in the temperature of the house. The thermostat used to be set at 73, now I have to put it up to 77. They did good work in the attic, made sure not to blow insulation over the soffit vents, kept everything contained and looking good. I love my attic now and basically want to just hang out in it! Bill came out and did a full energy audit - it was mostly what we expected, but also some extras that he told us would save money and better heat/cool our house in the long run. We had a duct added, some weatherstripping replaced and insulation added to our attic space. They even coordinated with the City in order to inspect pre- and post-service for rebates on the items we had taken care of. We had extra insulation put in, a new HVAC system, diverters in the air ducts to ensure each room got the right amount of air flow. Service was fast (all under a week!) The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 (and I would give myself 4 stars as a customer becuase I didn't think to ask the right questions) is that there wasn't enough communication about how the work might effect your existing home warranty.
